We've tried a couple of cafés in the area but this is by far the best. The decor is what it is, nothing fancy but pleasant enough. Having said that, as far as cafés go in the South London area, it's about as good as you get. A nice big picture of the Crystals is always a bonus too. :-) The food is great value for money with very generous portions. The quality of the food is also excellent. The service is always delivered with a smile and you're generally given a "good luck" for the game which is a nice touch. Another thing worth mentioning is the cleanliness of the place. You can go in to some cafés and come out feeling dirtier than you went in. But The Delite café sticks to its name. The food, despite being unhealthy, never feels as such due to its lack of grease. The other cafés in the area seem to get busier so I was reluctant to write this review in the fear that people might transfer and take up our seats but it's well worthy of the recognition. The starters were tasty despite the temperature and so we persevered in the hope the rest of the meal would make up for this disappointment. The mains took much longer to arrive, we waited well over an hour and a half, by the time our food arrived we were a little frustrated but was eager to try our curries. The staff member seemed to be a bit more senior and was very good, not only did she take our drinks off the bill she also provided new and much hotter sweet potato fries. The food had some spice to it which was good as some of these Caribbean themed places lack a bit of heat in their food. They have a bit of variety on the desert menu, I went for the warm rum cake and was not dis pointed. The Spread Eagle is an exception: it's a decent boozer, centrally placed along the High Street. It has the full range of Fuller's real ales, with a reasonable range of sandwiches and other typical pub grub. Staff are friendly though could be a tad more efficient. Formerly a bank, the 1890's exterior is a dignified example of 'banker's classical' architecture, and the inside is spacious with wood panelling, high ceilings and an imposing staircase leading to an upstairs function-room. As you'd expect for a town centre pub, it has a wide range of clientele, though is reasonably quiet most lunchtimes. It has sports TV and is probably best avoided during big footie matches, but otherwise is a dependable venue. The ground floor is fully wheel-chair accessible.
