Really nice selection of wines! Got the Butter Chardonnay…read morerecommended by the staff- very rich, buttery and full just how I like it. $33 The Paul AMAW Viognier was really interesting- medium bodies, smooth and a tad fruity with nectarine notes Liberty School CabSav was also on point. Very smooth, not super tannic (personally I'm not a fan of very tannic wines so this was ), and a hint of sweetness balancing out the full body of the wine. This one was also recommended by the staff - who seem to be very knowledgeable about the products they carry
2 words: Craft Beer…read more I've never seen a place like it. They put the LCBO to SHAME! There was a full wall dedicated to craft beer. It had every type of beer you could imagine. None of it was in the sissy cans, bottles or tallboys we have, these were ALL in 650ml or so bottles. Mmmmmmmm. They even have a loyalty club to get discounts on booze. All of the staff were friendly. They also had a sample table out with local cider.

Fours stars for a typically dull off-sales... Say what?…read more Well... I learned a valuable lesson over the weekend. That the little stores sometimes get stuck with "random" bottles of wine that they can't sell to their regulars. So there we were loading up from their limited selection of REAL ciders and we (OK, so it was Crystal H) noticed a 2005 Razer's Edge Shiraz sitting all alone on the shelf. Uh........ "Holy Sechelt", I yelped. The elusive '05 RE. That is an incredible bottle of wine that I searched out in Vancouver 4 years ago with very limited success. I miraculously found one in a BC liquor store and cellared it for three years. And when I finally opened it last year... well, lets just say there was some magic happening at the dinner table. Back to the lesson at Lighthouse. Of course I bought their lonely bottle. And it is likely that it's already peaked in taste. But who cares. What a find! Support the little guys, and you just never know what you may discover.

Then I met one of workers who helped me out and gave me a wealth of knowledge about everything from whiskey to sake. I wish I would've grabbed his name, but unfortunately I didn't. Although it is a bit pricier than the states, there were some pretty good sales going on. Plus the store is super organized and offers everything from local Canadian Staples like Molson Canadian beer, craft beer from local breweries, whiskey's and sake's and everything in between. Only downside is a bit lacking on the mixers. Highly recommend coming here.

I cannot believe no one has yelp-ed this yet! Well, ok,…read moreit's a liquor store but IN TOFINO rendering it awesome by default. I also find the staff here really helpful. I'm always here on vacay so the old noggin' tends to be on 'pause' and i am learning to rely on experts and servers more lately. i.e., i'm in your 'hood, what would you suggest?? So i asked for some BC red wine options and got a few great, reasonably priced selections. Then at the cash with my Granville Isl winter beer in hand i asked the super cure cashier if he knew if the brew company was open...he said indeed and that he was going there later (was this kinda a pick up!?!?! i'm so out of practice). We then proceeded to wax poetic about the awesomeness of the Tofino Brewing Company (please go there). Anyway, not sure if it was the wicked weather or impending long weekend but everyone was cheery and smiley and here I am...writing about it. Next time you're in town, pop in, think about what your craving and leave the selecting up to the local experts. You won't be sorry.

A free mead tasting conducted by the meadery's owner is the best way to get introduced to this beverage. At Middle Mountain they create the best mead I've ever had. Some is mixed with green tea, others with cranberries. Even if you don't like mead, you'll love the view and experience. They also have a fantastic blackberry wine. It's like Port but not as sweet and thick. I am a fan of dry rose so I'm also into really dry, flavorful mead.If you're ever on Hornby, be sure to visit this place.

The scenery alone makes it worth the trip... especially if you're not into mead. The tastings are generous and the staff is friendly; there is no "tourist hostility" here. Sit down, close your eyes, and breathe in the scent of lavender and clean forest air. Enjoy a glass of the Magic Mead (it's the best, trust me), and slow down for a moment... which is really impossible NOT to do when you're up there. The only disappointment you'll experience here is when it's time to leave.

Firstly, their prices are one of the more competetive compared to other beer and wine stores. The Windward Beer and Wine Store over by the hospital is considered one of the most expensive.
