I love the place and the owner. Tacos are my favorite. But I haven't eaten there since they closed their dining area. I bought a new truck and I will not eat in it. The best description I can give of Cap'n Taco is "Old School", it has been there a long time and just seems like nothing has changed. A small store in which half is the take out counter and kitchen and the other half is a small dining room. The decor of the dining room has a bunch of old flying memorabilia which makes for a cool atmosphere. The menu is nothing special, an assortment of the basic Mexican items; tacos, burritos etc. I was there on a Thursday and they had a buy 1 burrito, get 1 at half off special so I went with a bean and cheese burrito and a crab burrito. The burritos came out fairly quickly wrapped in paper with little packets of salsa on the side. Both burritos were rather small. The refried beans were ok, but nothing special I was disappointed with the cheese, which seemed to be processed cheese rather then using real cheese. The crab was the the artificial crabstick, no surprise at the price, but still disappointing. Overall the food was decent, just not very flavorful or special. There are so many other options that I would prefer. I was especially disappointed to get salsa packets, clearly the cheapest, easiest and worst option. About the only thing I can recommend is that you stop in and check out the memorabilia in the dining room. read more

I had my 1st taco from the Captain when he had a store by Great Northern mall. I've been going to the Brookpark store since 1981? Tasty tacos, California burritos, 1/2lb beef burrito elites add peppers,tostados,pintos & cheese. MMM, the food is good here that's why I've been coming here for 43 yrs. I believe the dining isn't open due the the after affects of Covid. Short staffed. I like the Conquistator Burrito - get extra chili for it. Nachos A OK . Not a fan of the mexican pizza. If you are looking for cheap Mexican eats...this is the place! Went here on a recent weekday (Taco Tuesday no less!) with a co-worker to give this post a try. Given the day it was, of course I gave their tacos a try and threw in a California burrito for good measure. Table service was pleasant and efficient, and i also noticed they did a fair amount of take-out business as well. The theme of the interior is kind of like straight out of the movie "Top Gun"...tons of fly-boy memorabilia, pictures of airplanes (both old and new), lots of military stuff. Kinda cool! For lunch I had two ground beef hard-shell tacos and a shredded chicken California burrito. The tacos were served with several packets of taco sauce (that i did not much care for as they were on the sweet side) and the meat lacked any real zip/flavor so i would put them in the Meh-category...but they were only $0.79 so that is a big bonus on the cheap eats side. The California burrito was molten-hot, even almost all the way until it was completely consumed...that fryer they've got in the back must be a rock star! The burrito has a good amount of shredded chicken inside as well as a nice compliment of Mexican spices and melted (white) cheese. It was tasty and filling. My co-worker ordered a taco and the Conquistador burrito that looked to have everything but the kitchen sink inside as smothered in chili. He said it was really good, so that will be my "go to" next time here. read more

Cap'n Taco has been here since 1976 and has always been the place to get great Tacos CHEAP and Delicious. Taco Tuesday is still under $1.00 and it's well worth it... If your looking for taco's but not the typical Mexican type taco's, not Taco Bell. It's just a simple tasting taco with white cheese and lettuce. They have all kinds of other taco type food. I've never ventured any further than the taco's and nacho's with cheese and jalapeños. It's just a little place, drive thru not far from the Cleveland Hopkins airport. They don't stay open all night so check times. I know their closed on Monday not sure about Sunday. I do recommend this place Cap n Taco for a simple tasty taco! read more

Eh..okay... for starters, it's a $10 minimum if you want to use a credit card. I didn't really want to eat $10 worth of food but there wasn't anything else nearby, and I do enjoy a good taco. I ordered two chicken soft tacos, one beef soft taco, nachos and cheese, and a diet Pepsi. I thought the nachos had an odd taste, and there was something sprinkled on them, some kind of brown seasoning. The cheese tasted very oily and after a couple chips that was it. I threw the rest away. I was underwhelmed by the beef and chicken tacos. For one, they were half cold when I got them. and I just felt the flavor was bland. It was no different, or better, than what you can get at Taco Bell. I would have liked more selections of sauce, instead of the little packets they give you. I should have known when I walked into a taco place and saw all white people working there. Nice folks, but this is a one-and-done. Cap'n Taco is a cool little place situated on Brookpark Road. I came here with my brother for the $.79 cent taco Tuesday special. He got some of the hard shell tacos and I got the chicken California burrito. I really liked the California burrito, the chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy inside a deep fried shell with cheese. The hard shell tacos were basic tacos with meat, lettuce, and cheese. They came with packets of taco sauce which give the tacos a bit of flavor. The sauce is not spicy at all. My brother also got a side of rice and it was sort of dry and bland, nothing the taco sauce couldn't fix. The inside of the restaurant was colorful and clean. The people working were really friendly and happy which is always a good thing. Also, the prices are really great! Overall, we will return. There's a lot of other items on the menu we can't wait to try, especially the desserts. read more

I've heard about this place since I moved to the Cleveland area. Nothing much to look at, but still better than the surrounding businesses. Forget about the first paragraph. The food is spectacular. Nothing fancy, just really tasty and a great bargain. I recommend asking for suggestions from the staff. Go with what sounds good. If you're looking to take your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride of authentic Mexican food, this is the place for you. Wow... I wasn't expecting much from this place but I am literally In shock that this place has 4 stars and still still open. The girl working was totally rude to us and told Us she could not put lettuce in the side for our burrito then we asked her if she could just put it on top and she said "no we can't do that either".... what kind of pace won't give you a side of lettuce lol. Ridiculous. Then I get home and there is tons of lettuce in my burrito after all of that. The burrito meat tasted like the smell of cat food and they covered the burrito on nasty nacho cheese sauce you get on 7-11 nachos. This was literally the WORST attempt at Mexican I have ever experienced. So to sum it up, if you want a cat food burrito with nacho cheese sauce plopped one top and want a some dark haired brat with glasses to tell you no and get your order wrong.... this is the place for you! read more

Love this place, but this is the second time not getting the correct order. No rice and no cheese on our nachos for the first botched order. On Saturday. Did not get the enchilada ordered. The employee even asked me if I wanted lettuce and tomato on it. I can over see once, but 2 is a pattern. I used the drive thru, did not want to go back through and opened our order at home. Cap'n Taco is okay, and it's rare to find a taco dive other than Taco Bell. It's located all by itself on Brookpark Rd. so don't pass it! The tacos come overloaded with cheese and they do have a good flavor. The great thing is you can get beer if you dine-in, but the place is so dumpy, you're better off rolling with "to-go". I usually get some tacos to go on my way home from work. We like em because they're different than other restaurants and they're yummy. But they do put a load of cheese on the tacos, which I'd prefer not to have. Recommend - if you're looking for something more authentic than Taco Bell. read more

Love, love their crunchy beef taco supremes. They hold up well for carryout. The tostada was mushy and not good. They have special sauces for sale as add-ons, however, don't order. They charge .85 or so for a 1/2 oz. Crazy! Haven't tried the chicken. We used to love the seafood chimichangas years ago, but after a recent visit, won't buy again. It's just fake crab deep fried inside a flour tortilla shell. The other thing we don't like about the place is it's pretty run down and dirty looking. I'm reading these 5 star reviews and am not sure we went to the same place. I saw a sketchy store front walking distance from two strip clubs. I saw a locally owned place that is probably a fan of locals for their inexpensive extremely Americanized version of Mexican food. I saw every ingredient I was served as coming out of a freezer, a sauce packet, or a bottle that was made somewhere else. Absolutely nothing authentic about Cap'n Taco. Its many comparisons to Taco Bell in the reviews are appropriate. To steal Greg G's description it is a taco dive. We were fooled by the 5 star reviews though. Not worth the trip. Oh, and the credit card machine didn't work, can you say dial up modem? So bring whatever singles you have left from the Crazy Horse and you'll be good. read more

I must say Brookpark has enjoyed 40 plus years of this place this was my first time eating here . The staff is super nice and the ambiance lots of aviation photos very nice and cozy inside . They sell alcoholic beverages didn't try any of them but a plus ! I had the signature Burrito the Conquistador 8.39 but a classic flavor a must try ! Prices are fabulous brought my kids back some tacos they love em . They sell Cap'n Taco apparel inside cool stuff . They also have a drive thru .Great place thanks for the great meal! read more

Let me gist start off by saying I used to frequently visit this restraint when I was a kid. However, it has changed dramatically. I passed by it today and decided to stop in. I order about 8 tacos in total. 4 hard shell 4 soft shell 2 of each were chicken and the others beef. The beef wasn't real beef it was mush. Looked similarly to what they seek at GFS. The chicken was clearly boiled and hand shredded. The soft shells were cold and the cheese was nearly frozen. When I walked in two of the worker were discussion their relationships in detail. I got one hello from the cashier after she took my order there was no more communication. I don't know how they've been open so long. I'm guessing it's due to the fact that people don't really know about authentic Mexican food here and it's the only thing in that particular area. I'm not sure how their other menu items taste. However, taco is their name and their tacos are terrible. I'm guessing the rest of the menu may be similar. If your drunk at 2am this establishment may serve you well. Other then that it is terrible. My mom took me here because she used to come here back in the day. The place is on the small side. You can eat in or get togo. There was not many people here when we went to eat. We decided to eat in here for lunch. The parking lot needs some serious tlc! There is like huge chuck-holes everywhere. I was glad i had my jeep (i came prepared). From the outside the place does not look loke much. My mom and i got a few tacos to chow down on. She said it was how she remembered. I thought that they are better than taco bell. The prices are very reasonable. This is a good place to bring the hungry kids, family, or even meet here for a date. Who does not like tacos?! This place is easy to get to and find. I was so ready to try a new place for tacos when I drove past this little taco place. I was going to order at counter when a seemingly nice guy behind the counter points me to a small dining room where 1 other guest was seated. He asked me if I wanted something to drink, & I told him no, I had brought my own. He turned sour immediately & told me he couldn't allow me to do that. I tried in vain to explain to him that I was Diabetic & had many health issues that required me to drink only caffeine free diet drinks. I showed him my medical ID bracelet. Then I offered to put my diet ginger ale back in my purse & he could just bring me water. Well that still wasn't good enough for him. He wanted to take my $30.00 Yeti cup away for the duration of my meal! That was the last straw! (No pun intended) I have never, ever had an issue with using my own drink when the restaurant had nothing to offer similarly to align with my diet restrictions in any restaurant - expensive or fast food, since I was diagnosed 6 years ago. Pro: Every time I am out by the airport I have to stop at Cap'n Taco. I enjoy their chicken captain sampler. What makes their tacos unique is the white cheese they use. The ground beef is not spicy, so you are given the option of adding your own sauce. The chicken burritos while stripped down to just chicken, lettuce and cheese is plain, it is very good and always packed full of chicken. Con: Not a fan of their beans though. This joint is the epitome of guilty pleasure/gluttony/comfort food. I have loved The Cap'n since I was a boy. And still do. Is this "authentic" Mexican cuisine? No. And without apology. It is what it is; and that is delicious. No trip of mine to Cleveland is complete with a tussle with a 1/2 pound Burrito Elite at Cap'n Taco. I've been coming here on and off for the better part of 8 years. Yes. It looks like a dive. Yes. It's not in a great part of town. Yes. You should eat here. The food is cheap. I've always had a good meal. I typically order a la carte- a couple of small burritos and tacos. With a $3.99 frozen margarita served in a plastic green solo cup. Seriously.
