I was stunned when I received a bill that my portion was $203 (after my insurance paid $165). At no time did his office tell me they were NOT in my network. They've since told me (the woman I spoke to in patient disputes was QUITE condescending) that it's my responsibility to contact my insurance carrier before I book an appointment. Maybe it's this office. In 20 years, however, I've never had a doctor's office not tell me this in advance. So...if it was just a rating for Dr. Hart, I'd give him 5 stars. Even though I still think $350+ for a visit to check my CPAP is excessive. So, my purpose and advice for this review is to do your best to confirm everything you can regarding insurance before you go. Do not trust that his office will do that for you. His office will be very careful to make sure they have YOUR information, but will not be upfront with your obligation. As the snotty woman told me this afternoon, "We bill your insurance as a courtesy." What? I would hope so! It's the 21st century!? The real courtesy would be to let your patients know Palo Alto MF is out of network. I have one of the biggest insurance carriers in the world, by the way, which makes this even more mystifying. My co-pay for this little office visit was more than what I had to co-pay for an endoscopy (at a hospital with anesthesia) I just had done, by the way.

When I specifically asked if it could be something else, she essentially said no. This was not only inaccurate but also incredibly irresponsible. What should have been said was something like: "Because the rapid test is negative, I'll start you on antibiotics that cover different possibilities, including STIs, while we wait for the lab swab to come back. It may turn out to be another bacterial cause, such as tonsillitis, which won't show up on today's rapid test. Let's cover our bases until we know for sure." That would have been professional, accurate, and safe. Instead, I left the clinic believing I had an STI and accused my partner of giving it to me. This created serious and unnecessary distress and could have had lasting consequences for my relationship. Days later, I got my lab results back -- I do not have an STI. What I actually had was a severe case of tonsillitis caused by another bacterium. All of this happened while I was so ill that I hadn't eaten in two days and fainted in the exam room. For a provider to so confidently and incorrectly declare an STI, without caveats or confirmation, was not just careless -- it was unprofessional and potentially harmful. Clinicians have a responsibility to frame uncertain situations with caution and balance, especially when the social implications are so high. This experience fell far short of that standard.

It's amazing how with constant overflow patients, every time I've felt my illnesses were a prior ity with these doctors. One doctor probably saved my life. Dr. Sawhney, for some reason at the last minute decided I needed an echocardiogram and it turned out I had Afib. Her action prevented a possible stroke. Everyone's great: the receptionists, the PA's. Fantastic service to all of us Santa Cruz sickies. Thank you so much!!!

I had the worst experience at this urgent care!…read moreI took my 8 year old in and the supervisor told me they would NOT treat my daughter, so I asked why not she told me I didn't have the right to bring my child to the urgent care. I asked for her name and I asked for paperwork or something showing me why I didn't have the right to bring my 8 year old to the urgent care so her response was to hide her name tag and tell me " if you don't leave we are calling the police"! She didn't offer me a phone number an email or anything for contact to answer any questions about why my 8 year old child is being denied treatment, they all went in the back and called the police. So the old blonde woman who said she was the supervisor tells the police there is a black man threatening her at the urgent care so of course they send not one but two cruisers out for me and my 8 year old. I DID NOT threaten anyone, I asked for the supervisors name and some paperwork or proof showing me I didn't have the right to bring my child to the doctor. So long story short I took my child to the ER for 5 hours and the good doctors there gave her oral and topical antibiotics for an infected leg. That supervisor was so nasty, rude and completely unprofessional I don't know why a person like her would work in a field that is suppose to help people.

I did so and that was fine. I got a message in my chart that said " good news!everything looks great!". However I saw that I was positive for a bacterial infection. I found that a little bit strange. The next thing that happened was that the pharmacy texted that they had medication ready for me. I looked at it and it said the medication has been approved by a doctor that Had retired 10 years ago! WTF? Then I looked at the notes and it said the doctor had prescribed 25 mg but the pharmacy said it didn't come in 25 mg so they were going to give me 45 mg. Again WTF? The pharmacy is prescribing the medication for me? I called to try to get some clarification on this but although the gal that I talked to was very nice (after holding for a long time to get her) She really had no answers for me. Just incompetence and poor customer service all the way around. I'm going to have to find another urgent care to go to.
