These high pressure sales people have so many complaints on their BBB listings, just go there and read them, you will run scared. They will gaslight, lie and evade. check to make sure they are even licensed where you are... Like most of the reviews here on yelp, they get a solid 1 star from me, the only 5 star reviews they have gotten on yelp are (coincidentally) from people with the same names as the Owner and his brother (the salesperson). Be VERY careful with Capitol. I have been researching this company. If you leave a bad review, they always have an excuse. They never own the negative stuff. Not sure why they keep telling people they bought another security company. That is a straight up lie. If you don't want this happening to your friends and family, do some research and demand transparency. Call around and ask in that industry. As others have posted, this is a terrible company. Don't let them past your doorstep. A salesman talked my 85 year old father-in-law into signing a contract knowing full well he just cancelled a previous contract months earlier. As soon as my wife found out he had signed it, she immediately sent notice to cancel it. It was past the 10 days they allow in their contract, and they, very rudely, told her she has no option but to pay. It turns out that was not true. She stopped the payments, and Capitol filed suit in small claims court in Newfoundland. When the court date arrived, they didn't show up. It was delayed, and they failed to show up the second time. Obviously it was just an intimidation tactic, and they no intention of appearing. They wasted our time and the courts time. If you are in Newfoundland, and you have signed a contract with them, you can very likely cancel the contract. NL has very strict legislation regarding Direct Sales contracts, and Capitol Security contracts are not even close to meeting the legislative requirements. Please go to the CanLII site site and look for the Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act, SNL 2009. In the Act, the contract is a 'Direct Sales contract", and if prior to 1 Jun 2024, it is also a Distance Service contract. Under the Direct Sales contract, you have 1 year to cancel the contract. See para 26(1)(b)(ii). From there read 24.(1)(f). Next read para 25. Then look at the regulation NLR 56/12. It is on the CanLII site as well. Their lousy contract does not meet the regulation, and therefore, it really looks like you are within your rights to cancel without penalty. Because they failed to appear, I did not have the chance to test this in court. But the legislation is clear. There is a also a provision as a Distance Service contract, if prior to 1 June 2024. This allows you to cancel at any time. Unfortunately, NL repealed this section of tha Act. But if you signed earlier, than see para 35.8 and 35.9. It describes the penalty, which is very likely a maximum of $50, since the contract completely makes a mess of the rebate amount. Good luck! read more

As many people have mentioned about this company, stay away. Customer service is abysmal, and outright rude. I was with Telus Security when a Capitol sales rep came to our door, and against better judgement, I listened to his pitch. I twas good, and so I agreed to change to Capitol. He looked at the system we had, and basically stated that the only thin that needed to be updated was the control panel. The install technician came the next day (2 hours late) and proceeded to changeover the system. He was in a rush due to his being late, and he had another appointment to do later that evening. When it came to the thermostat (Vivint Legacy model), he stated that there was likely only a 30% chance that it would integrate into the new system. He integrated it, but proper functional testing was not completed due to the rush. That night, the thermostat did not respond to demand calls for heat, and locked itself in ac mode. The temperature in the house dropped to 11C. I made calls the next day to get this issue addressed. The only response I could get was from the Sales rep who had left me his number. He basically said he would call the install tech to come and look at it, but that likely we would need a new thermostat (not in his sales budget) and that I would have to pay for it. I had to agree, the house was getting colder, and so I shut off power to the furnace motor. The tech arrived later that day, and installed the new thermostat, and got it working, and agin he told me that the themostat should have been changed with the installation. Today, Capitol raided my bank account for the cost of the thermostat without my approval. In dealing with their customer service (Scott) I was told that it was my fault because I agreed to the new thermostat. I asked to speak to a Manager, and was told categorically that I would not be able to do so. Lesson learned. My advice, DO NOT let these people into your house. read more

Terrible customer service! We had a salesperson come to our door last year to try to sell us a security system with Capitol Security. We were with Vivint but they were sold to Telus so I thought I'd listen to what the salesperson had to say. Well she sold us on the system because she offered us the same amount as we were paying to Vivint but she also said they were local & the dealer here was Stanley Security so if we needed service, they could send someone quickly. If I would have done my research first as I normally would, I would have found out that Stanley Security was bought out by Securitas Technology & their office is who knows where. So if you have any issues with your system, you have to call Securitas Technology & the wait can be up to 30 minutes because after that time you get disconnected. Anytime we have called there we have been on hold for over 20 minutes & once connected we have spoken to a minimum of 3 people per call. I have also contacted the Capitol Security business office which has been somewhat helpful, however, we believe there is only one person , maybe two who work in the office which is only open business hours & Securitas Technology has limited hours as well except for the monitoring number. . Weve been having problems with one of our sensors for a couple of weeks now & have done everything recommended to us & finally Securitas realized we needed service but it could take until Monday to hear back from someone just to make an appointment! We called the office to see if this could be expedited but they said it couldn't because they don't have any service people in our area! So much for "local" service. Maybe if you live in Edmonton where the head office is in you might get better service. Unfortunately we have another year on our contract . read more

Beware of Capitol Security. They are unscrupulous, evasive and will sign you up for long term contracts that you never ever saw. Read on... Capitol Security cold called me to change all the batteries in our security system components. I said sure, of course. A guy showed up at the house and offered to add a doorbell camera for $2/mo extra. I hesitated and then he immediately offered it for free. I should have been suspicious, but wasn't. I'd been with these guys for 5 years already. He then showed me a signature box on his tablet and said that he needed my signature to add the camera to my account at no extra cost. All done. He then said the technician would be along in a few minutes. Wait. All they were supposed to do was change the batteries. Why the camera offer? The very nice technician came, changed all the batteries and installed an updated panel. Later that day, Monday Jan 10, 2022, a new 6 year contract showed up in my email. I never saw this contract during either visit. A new contract was never discussed. I never saw any paperwork, real or digital, when either man was in my house. My signature to add a doorbell has been digitally transferred to a new 6 year contract, ending in 2028. I am pretty sure that is fraud, but I am not a contract lawyer. Not only that, but my initials run down an entire page of disclaimers and acknowledgements, from our old contract. I never saw this new page and I never initialed them. I am pretty sure that is forgery, but I am not a contract lawyer. After getting nowhere with several back and forth emails with this salesman, I asked to speak to his supervisor. He provided me with a name, Peter. I then looked online and discovered that Peter is the CFO and the salesman, Erik, is the CEO. Not only did he misrepresent himself in my house, but he gave me the name of a subordinate (on their org chart) as his supervisor. I asked the CEO to cancel this new 6 year contract on Jan 17, 2022. So far, he has stalled. He keeps calling it a "renewal doc", but it is clearly a 6 year contract, with clear penalties for non-payment. The CEO mispresented his way into my house. I never asked to see a salesman. They were just here to change batteries. He has applied my name to a 6 year contract that I never saw, which is clearly a contract but he keeps calling it a "renewal doc". Update Jan 21: After much painful back and forth by email, I finally got a one line email from the CEO saying that the illegal 6 year contract was cancelled. I also requested that it be removed from the company books, so they don't use my name to show any profit. My level of trust with Capitol Security is so low that I have doubts whether it has truly been removed. BE VERY CAREFUL when dealing with Capitol Security. Do not ever, ever use this company. Our mother of 90 years recently passed. We informed capitol once we found she had signed a contract with them. A contract that I'm sure most 90 year olds wouldn't completely understand. But instead of compassion or cancelling their contract they want total payment for the entire time up till September 2025. Capitol knocked on our door offering to upgrade our security system if we chose to switch to them. We were dissatisfied with our previous company ***** as they are based in the States and we were looking for something more local. In the end we upgraded the system, everything is set up on our phones, and we added 3 exterior cameras for the same price we were paying *****. Our sales rep told us how to cancel with *****, and apart from having to contact our old company the process was very easy and simple. Our new system is better than our old one, and when we needed service (adjusting our cameras) capitol was here the next day. Highly recommend read more

This review would be NO stars if I could. I had a Capitol Security salesman come to my door after it had been announced that my current security company had been sold. He informed me that my company was no longer in business and that Capitol was the authorized company taking over their customers. I signed up. A few days after I signed up there was some confusion about the name of the company - it was either Capitol or Stanley Security for unknown reasons. Initially there were also some issues with the functioning of the system. It was at that point that I found out that they had outright lied to me about being an authorized takeover company and about my company no longer being in service. They agreed to give me 6 mos. of free service to make up for their deception. I will admit that I am not a good book keeper and didn't realize that Vivint (the company that I had been told was defunct) was still monitoring and charging me for that 6 months. When I contacted Capitol - I was told that it was my responsibility to cancel my Vivint service. In fact I did sign a contract that said in small print that I was responsible for cancelling my service. I thought they were out of business so didn't know this was necessary They never once mentioned to me personally that I needed to do this. When I contacted the company, I got a big run around. Two employees were VERY rude to me (one on the phone and one by text). They refused to refer me to anyone higher up who might have listened to my problem and tried to help me resolve it. This is a shady company. I would say to RUN from this company and NEVER give them your business. read more

What started off as not realizing it wasn't our existing security company we were dealing with at the door, it went downhill from there. However, the technicians did a great job installing what their work order must have described, and demonstrating the new panel. Since then, though...There have been unfulfilled promises and delays in delivering to us our agreement and its terms and conditions (I'm still waiting for them to forward me the auto-generated email with our agreement attached that was supposedly sent in July.); there was the installation for sensors we declined, and now billing for monitoring we didn't want; the most glaring is the lack of professionalism in their correspondence, and dismal service in dealing with customer concerns. Despite the agreement indicating that services were not accepted and many opportunities to correct what shows to be an oversight, the company refuses to amend their invoice; some would consider these unsavory business practices. Ask yourself, do you want to do business with a company having this low of a level of customer care? Should you, regardless of my experience, engage with them, I suggest you don't worry so much about what you signed, but ensure you receive within DAYS the system's auto-generated email with the agreement and its Terms and Conditions attached, then read EVERY LINE to ensure it is everything YOU want.
