This morning I smelled something odd . I found an outlet that was burnt . I immediately unplugged everything and took a look . The outlet was burnt pretty bad . I called Mr Electric , after a quick google search. Within 10 minutes of calling, I got a call from their office and a technician would be dispatched soon. Another 10 minutes goes by , I get a call from Gabriel. He will be at my place in 14 minutes. And sure enough, he arrives and immediately went to the outlet. Once he unscrewed it, he found a wire that was fried. He instantly replaced the outlet and the cover and made sure everything worked before leaving. His advice.. and please do this .. UNPLUG space heaters or electric fireplaces when not in use.. it can overload the circuit - BIG TIME ! ( if i was not home, this could have been an electric fire ). Some advice he gave me that I pass on to you. Considering how fast the service ( time from calling to completed work was less than 90 minutes. ) was completed but the price was also very reasonable.. a lot less than what I figured. So if you need any electrical work done, I would highly recommend Mr Electric. read more

We noticed that our home sentry system was not operating very well, and then within days each and every smoke detector began chirping, we didn't really hear it at first until we got close, but it drove our dogs nuts, lol, which made us wonder why. I could not find similar units with the correct electrical connections, so I took a chance and called Mr. Electric. Wonderful job. I called the company and they replied fast. They sent me a technician the day after that. Nathan came to my house on time and did the job very well. Thank you Mr. Electric! After hiring Mr. Electric my faith in contractors is renewed. Mr. Electric was easy to hire and did the work. It's a chain that operates across North America but they seemed to want our business, and want to help, more than any of the local electricians we called. We've had a hard time getting an electrician to even come look at some of our minor repairs. Mr. Electric not only set up an appointment, they were here exactly on time and the electrician took just a few minutes to disconnect some wiring. 10 minutes of work for more than $100. I can't believe nobody local, and independent, wanted that kind of job. These guys will be at the top of my contractor list. As an added note to potential customers, the electrician put on little booties to cover his shoes while working. read more

Mr. Electric have resolved a months' long problem of flickering power to the house. The patience, determination and sheer professionalism that Gabe from Mr. Electric exhibited was more than impressive. He wasn't satisfied that it was our panel being the problem (most others just said I needed a new panel), but narrowed it down to the EPCOR power supply. EPCOR had been out once and declared the power stable. He got them out again, and together they found a bad (arcing) line in the roadside cabinet. Problem found, and resolved. I cannot say enough about the service this company provided to us over the festive season. I can say that I would recommend them to anyone without reservation. Attention to detail is amazing and Mr Electric does warranty anything they do. I am impressed that the boss showed up to inspect the work and asked me, the customer, if it was exactly what I wanted. Read online reviews and decided to contact Mr.Electric for a short we had in our basement. Very nice gentleman came out to take a look and quoted $750 to see what the problem was going to be. I felt that was high and a friend recommended another electrician. They came out, fixed the problem and it came to $137. Also the two businesses gave me quotes for some other work and there was a discrepancy of $2500 between Mr. Electric and the one business that I went with. Extremely over-priced, I recommend shopping around before going with this business. read more

I'm really disappointed with Mr. Electric and would not use their service again. I called on Monday June 23 because something was wrong with the switch on my Jacuzzi tub. I spoke with Holly at the Edmonton location and asked if this was something that they could help me with. She said it was and asked if I was available on Friday to have it looked at. I was but I work until 3 and Holly said that would be fine and booked me in taking my e-mail info for contact. I asked what the charge was to have someone come out and take a look. She explained that the electrician would come out to my house and give me an estimate and that I could decide if I wanted to go ahead with the work or not. I told her that I was relieved because the last place I called wanted $50 for the call plus a minimum 1 hour at $120/hour or $170 to come out. She said that they don't do that. I was really pleased to hear that. I also asked if the call would just be considered an estimate call or if the work would be done right then if I agreed to the price and again she said yes. I received an e-mail today at 1233 from Debbie with Mr. Electric saying that the electrician had finished with his job and wondered when he could come over. I said that I would be available at 3. She e-mailed back about half an hour later and said that the electrician was now suddenly stuck on a job until the end of the day and she would have to reschedule me until Monday... (It was Friday and the electrician didn't want to honour the appointment time?????) I wrote back that I could get to my house by 2 if that helped but I had already waited 5 days for the appointment at a time that they had agreed to... I didn't hear anything back so I called the office. I reached an answering service and I asked if there was anything that could be done to honour the appointment that I'd waited 5 days for. They said they would have someone call me back. Instead of a call back I received a reply e-mail from Debbie asking if I could still make it to my house for 2. I could and did. The electrician (Michael) was still on my front step when he stared telling me that even if he could figure out what was wrong he probably wouldn't be able to get parts at 2 in the afternoon on a Friday of a long weekend... WHAT long weekend? Last time I checked Monday was a day of work... He asked me if the tub had air jets and I said yes. He said that he probably wouldn't be able to do anything but he'd look. He asked what brand it was (I don't know, a handyman redid my bathroom 8 years ago!) He took a couple of screws off of the access panel of my tub, bent the plastic panel back and said that he couldn't see a brand or any markings and that there wasn't any point in taking the rest of the panel off. He tried the switch a few times and after a few tries managed to get it to turn off and on. He said that you really have to press hard and that the switch is going but it is still working. He said that he could spend hours researching what kind of tub it is and eventually get me a switch but it would get VERY expensive for me. He suggested that I take pictures of the tub and switch and go research it on my own. It was obvious to me that this guy was more interested in getting his weekend started than helping me with my problem. For THIS I was charged $150 for a service call!!! NEVER again! I asked specifically about what I would be charged when I spoke to Holly when I was booking the appointment. Stay away from this company! read more

I was very impressed with the way this company is managed. They price based on job not time which means you know exactly what to expect with your bill, no suprises. I booked for an appointment online, they called me within the hour to schedule and were at my house 7:30am next day! The technician that came to my house even carried dog treats in his bag which he shared with my puppy, not without being polite enough first to ask me if it was ok that she had one. Being that I own an older home, they did a free check to make sure that everything was up to code (according to what was visible without opening walls of course) and quoted me on extra things to consider in the future (such as replacing my 40 year old panel and adding a surge protector to protect my appliances etc) I will definitely use this company again when I complete my basement renovations. Was pretty disappointed in the experience we had. We searched Yelp for an electrician and received several responses. Mr. Electric could come the soonest and when I asked what he charged, he replied that he'd need to check out the issue first. Didn't say there was a minimum diagnostic charge or what that might be. We are okay paying for people's time, but he was here 15 minutes, it was a simple breaker issue that required two minutes of his time. He then showed me the invoice and said it was the lowest he could do for diagnostics. It was $205. I looked very surprised and asked if he could do any better and he said $150. Right after he left, another electrician came by and we decided to inquire about his prices and what he would charge for fixing a few other issues we had (we weren't going to ask Mr. Electric after that bill). He said because he was close he would't charge a travel fee and he was $80/hour, a master electrician, and he understood that if he takes care of his customers, they will call him back. He spent time fixing a few issues and replacing some parts and only charged us for two hours (he probably spent more time than that with driving to get parts) plus parts and his bill came to $220. What a difference in just a few short hours and we found the guy we will call from now on. Some companies are very short sighted and that was my experience with Mr. Electric. We enjoy creating partnerships and win-wins, not just one-offs. read more

I had Mr. Electric come in to remove a stove fan and it took all of 10 minutes and was charged $280. I got hozed!!! I was told the price before the job, but figured for that amount, it was going to take a while to get the job done. At that rate the company is charging $1,680/hour. Where in the world do they come up with the pricing? I have to work over 14 hours to pay for this job. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I worked for Mr.Electric for over a year. I can tell you that the boss Steven only cares about himself and the money, not about his employee's or customers. He owns Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon. We had meetings every Monday morning where he taught us to be salesmen, not Electricians. He has a system that gets the customer to trust the Electrician, just so they can get more money out of you. They perform a safety checkup before they quote any job, then scare the customer saying there's a danger to their house if they don't get the problem fixed right away. Their prices are much higher than any other company. They wanted us to make the company $1200 a day, which is charging the customer about $150/hour. There's also hidden fees that they don't want you to know about, like a dispatch fee. The Employee's are not hourly workers, they get paid per job, which means they have to charge more to make more. This is why they are more like salesmen, they try to convince you to pay the high price. They wanted me to spend about an hour at a customer's place to gain their trust, if the customer doesn't want the job done at the quoted price, I did not get paid for this time. They also have two workers that are not Electrician's. Ryan and Eugene. They send these two labours to work alone on many jobs, doing Electrical jobs in different company's like McDonalds and Boston Pizza. Even a Day Care in St. Albert. This is Illegal in Canada. Anyone working as an Electrician needs to be a certified Electrician. They have a high turn over rate. Most workers don't survive a year due to the owner not caring about them. Don't work for this company or hire this company. They will make it sound good, they will make you feel like you are getting a good value, then will over charge you. Example of being over charged... Someone needs a new overhead service. This includes a new panel, meter box, pipes, wiring.. Mr. Electric will charge $6000+ Another company around $3000 The other company is not worse, but Mr.Electric will convince you that they are. They will do more than whats needed and will charge you for it. Just stay away from this company! read more

I decided to call this company based on the two positive reviews I read here. The website also looked alright. I also saw their ad on YouTube which promises excellent, reliable, professional service. The phone rang several times and then I heard a shuffling noise in the background yet no one answered. I said "Hello?". After some more shuffling a man answered "Hello?!?" so I thought I dialed the wrong number. I asked "Is this Mr Electric?" and I think the man said "Yeah". And I think he said something like "I wasn't supposed to answer the phone". So then I thought "Then why the heck did you even pick up???!!!". I was appalled by the way my call was answered. The man was so totally unprofessional. I did not expect anything like that from a chain company that operates across North America. This right away gave me a bad 1st impression of the company. The manner my call was answered did not inspire trust and confidence. I proceeded with my inquiry about the work I needed done. Although I got some info, I thought to myself "Do I really want these people working in my home?" I didn't end up booking with this strange man on the phone. And then I thought I should maybe give the company a second chance. I tried their online booking service Thursday evening August 22nd. Friday passed and no reply from the company. No email.
