Maybe a little overpriced (but is on par with some other liquor stores in cap hill), and the shelves can look a little bare/dirty, but it still always has what I need and is in a good location. The cashier was incredibly helpful with my vodka selection and just friendly to talk to! read more

This place is a trap. They are charging basically double the price. They also don't tell you the price and run your card.

Don't ever buy anything from this store. Price gougers. I just went there and asked for a pint of whiskey and they gave me two half pints and charged me $22 read more

Great Selection This shop is so small on the outside...it's deceiving. They really manage to pack in a great deal of wonderful options, high-end and low-end. I was able to find EXACTLY what I came in for! read more

Absolutely outrageous liquor prices just do some Google searches on the average price of things. I cannot recommend anyone shop here! For example, a 750ml of Tito's vodka is approximately $19.99 as a standard price but at this liquor store it is $29.99 !!!!!!! Or use your Vivino app to scan wines, they're always several dollars overpriced here for even entry level basic wine. Not to mention the store is a dump and the shelves are bare. Yuck just yuck. I wish there was another liquor store across from the King Soopers grocery store since they only carry beer. I bet that's why this place has any business. But, also there are plenty of other liquor stores just a few blocks away. Don't grossly overpay! This is literally the worst liquor store I've ever been to in my entire life. read more

Capitol Hill Liquor - Don't shop here unless you're desperate the prices are outrageous! - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Denver, Colorado

This joint is standing on a firm and stubborn Arm & a Leg type price point. $$$ #beware

I know... I've been there. You don't want to drive to Argonaut, and this place is riiiight next to Soopers. WALK THE 3 BLOCKS TO SKYLINE. You will 1) Get 3 blocks of exercise 2) Save at least $6 per 6-pack 3) Possibly get to pet a dog hanging outside of Park Tav This place should only be visited as a last resort. read more

This place is very dirty and horribly overpriced. Unfortunately I only found out how pricey my bottle of Svedka was when I was checking out... left me only a moment to decide if I still wanted it and before I could decide the clerk rushed me to pay because there was a line. Bad experience... would not recommend. read more

My experience was: 1. High prices 2. Unmarked prices. 3. Limited selection. 4. Decidedly unfriendly service. 5. Dirty environment. Stay away. This place only exists because of Colorado's stoopid, archaic liquor laws. read more

Capitol Hill Liquor continues to mislead and trick their customers by not displaying prices on anything as well as at check out. I wanted to love this place since it's down the street from my house but I will never give them another dime. We had gone in a few times and purchased the same exact 6 pack which had 3 different prices over the course of 2 weeks. I had read the reviews but didn't want to believe it but now I do. We make sure to tell any of our Airbnb guests to avoid this place because of their very shady practices. Additionally, the owner owns the entire building & the one across the street (Ace hardware, Namaste, Great Frame Up) both of which are clearly in massive disrepair. Ace Hardware, which is an awesome btw, has to keep plastic sheets over their shelves because of the leaking roof. This owner is greedy and should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Not covid safe. I have been in there a few times and the owner never wears a mask (to each their own it doesn't bother me if you don't wanna wear a mask, I got mine on and that's what I can control). But today the owner was facing us and could not stop coughing and was not covering his mouth. Just letting y'all know this probably isn't the most covid safe spot to go read more

I've dropped in a few times when needing a last minute beer grab for a park day. Unfortunately you never know what you're gonna pay as their prices aren't marked and once you cash out it's too late to awkwardly say anything. I'm tempted to walk in one day and ask for the prices of literally everything so they get the point, but i think they just don't care... If you have a car, go to argonauts. If you don't have transportation, think about being sober. It might be a better option. Two stars cos the lady who owns this shops son is nice. The owner, not so much... read more

This place has a POSTED sign that masks are not required and the employee was not wearing a mask. Avoid if you don't want covid

Overpriced, poor service, bad selection. Came in once because I lived in the neighborhood and needed a decent bottle of wine for a dinner party. They couldn't even manage the lowest of expectations. read more

I've only ever gone to this store because of sheer laziness. I used to live like a half a block away and occasionally would wonder over there to buy some booze. But, I always paid for that laziness in cost and I'm pretty sure that's what this place is banking on. Everything is more expensive. The selection is limited and it's usually dusty and/or dirty. The workers are usually friendly though so that's a plus. read more

Every few years, some Colorado legislator introduces a bill in the hopes of giving groceries the power to sell full strength beer. And every few years, seemingly the whole state piles on to say that if such a thing ever passed, it would kill the craft beer industry and put Mom and Pop liquor shops out of business. I don't know about all those arguments, but if my vote will put an end to Capitol Hill Liquor's reign of disappointment at the intersection of 9th and Corona, then sign me up. How this place stays in business even without that law is simply beyond me. Here, for your consideration, is the typical experience: You walk in. The (seemingly) sweet old lady at the counter gives you a look. You've already fallen into her trap, even if she's the only one who knows it at this point, yet you stroll the aisles looking around for a six-pack and noticing nothing's in stock. And price tags? Nowhere in sight. The whole building seems moments away from collapsing. "If TJ Maxx ran liquor stores," you think, "they'd look like this." But you manage to find your six-pack of New Belgium somethingorother and bring it up to the register. The woman smiles at you--a mischievous smile--while she scans the bar code. "$15," she says without a hint of remorse. Your stomach drops and her smile is gone. She's fixed on you. "I can always put it back," you tell yourself. "Skyline's not that far away." But you can't. You're sweating. You can't look cheap in front of this woman. She stares into your soul. Without breaking eye contact, you pull out your Visa. The thing is done. She has claimed another victim. Never again. read more

Worst liquor store in Capitol Hill for sure. They don't post their prices, so when you go to pay you realize you are paying 12 bucks for a 6 pack of Sam Adams, but still don't want to put it back and walk out. The prices are ridonculous. I used to go there when I didn't feel like walking the extra few blocks, but not anymore. I've officially boycotted this store. It's nasty, overpriced and they have poor customer service. I'd rather buy 3.2 beer from King Soopers. Go the few extra blocks to Joy on 6th/Merian or at least go to 11th/Ogden to Skyline. Please don't give this place your business, they don't deserve it. read more

Literally- what??? How does the place stay in business? I literally live across the street and just moved in. If they had reasonable prices, I would probably be a regular customer for the next however many years. Heck, I'd pay a dollar or two extra for the convenience. But 8 dollars more? I grabbed a variety pack of Truly Seltzers, which is usually in the ballpark of 14 or 15 dollars. The other reviews are correct, prices are not marked on shelves (talk about obvious shadiness). I'm not a nickel and dimer or bargain hunter, so I didn't care or notice. I get to the cashier and he says $23. I was like, I'm sorry, I think I misheard you. He laughed and said, I agree, this is overpriced, isn't it? I said- uh, yeah, and not by a little. It's okay to be a bit pricier if your location is the epitome of convenience, I get it. It's business. But this is BLATANT ripping off. I walked out without the alcohol. And found the same thing at Target for 14 bucks. Don't go to this place. I will never step foot in there again, which is sad. When I say I live across the street, I live a one minute walk away. read more

Prices = bad. Not showing prices = really bad. Friendly staff = good. Close place for booze = good. As others have stated, this place preys on the lazy, and I have to admit I have been part of that crowd before. read more

If you like liquor stores that price their booze, are relatively clean, ordered and have people who run them that give a shit- This place is not for you. P.S. The hours suck as well read more

Just stopped in to pick up some overpriced wine, totally unaware of its terrible reputation. TV on the counter was playing Fox News. Stay away. read more

Yucky. I didn't end up purchasing anything here for several reasons: -It wasn't clean. -NOTHING is priced. -The employee that was working wasn't friendly at all. -Really small selection. I'd much rather walk the mile down to broadway or head to colfax and have my pick of stores and selection for normal prices. read more

I used to patronize this store because it was nearby & I prefer supporting independent businesses. But the selection is terrible, and the bottles outside the coolers are eerily dusty. The greatest negative is that they don't put prices on the products they carry, so you always enjoy a nice price gouging surprise at the register. I don't have patience for that deceptive BS, and there are much better places nearby that treat my patronage with respect. Avoid! read more

Alright so, I live in the neighborhood. I can walk their with my dogs. They are OVERLY dog friendly. They all love my dogs. And my pups always leave with a million treats and praise. You can't go wrong when all of a stores employees treat your dogs like angels! The prices are marked up. But I totally get it, it's a family owned company. Whenever I'm feeling cheap and by cheap I mean wanting to get in my car and drive for alcohol, I'll go to Argonauts. But usually I'm not. I do however buy my cigarettes at Queen Soops because it's just a little cheaper and still on my walk home. But I often get ice here when Queen Soops is randomly out of ice. I do see a lot of people complain about the price tags not being visible. It might be that I usually buy wine and there is a like, garage sale type sticker on them with a price, and same with the liquor I occasionally get. But I cannot attest to the beer. I will say when this happens to me in any store I first check for a price and if not found I simply ask. And if I don't like the price, I put it back. All in all the customer service is great! I come here all the time (a normal amount I'm not an alcoholic but if I was who cares) the store itself is old and a little dusty it could use a clean. But you're not in a Nordstrom. It's a corner liquor store. I love it here. You'll always feel welcome- especially if you have a dog. Help a local business with me. read more

Don't really care that its over priced as much as i can about the owner not wearing a mask. He leans over the counter to get in your face and talk to you. It's been over a year dude, did you just crawl out from under a rock? read more

The staff don't wear masks and refuse to put one on if you ask. The store is very small and does not seem well ventilated, so this is especially dangerous. This is just plain irresponsible. I'll be going elsewhere, a bottle of overpriced wine isn't worth my life. read more

I love my local liquor store. It is great if you need a quick bottle of wine or 6 pack. The store clerks are always super friendly and very helpful/knowledgable about the products. The selection is basic, but just enough for the local corner. It beats going to Argonaut or Mr Bs when you want a case of nascar beer or a quick bottle of wine to go with dinner. Feel free to bring your dog in or stop on the way back from a fun day at Cheeseman park. They always have treats on the counter and love the pooch traffic. read more

WORST liquor store ever. It's filthy, and extremely over priced. Places like this should not be supported in our community. If you go to Joy Wine & Spirits, about 5 blocks away on 6th avenue, you will save tons of money and won't walk away with a disease. read more

OVERPRICED/DIRTY/SCAM WARNING: I've only ever gone in here because I live a block away. But this place is awful. WAY over priced, sometime double the price of places literally blocks away. ($20 for a bottle of bottom shelf evan williams? Come on). Not to mention the wine area is dirty, hot, and disorganized. No one wants to buy hot, overpriced wine. The worst part though is that of the handful of times I've been there, twice I've gone to pay at the register and have heard the clerk say a price that was way too much for what I was purchasing. When I've questioned them they say "oh sorry I mistyped it" or "oh our computer is acting strange" THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. Something fishy is going on here and I hope this place closes soon. read more

They didn't have any prices on the beer and when I went to pay for my 24 pack of Coors I was shocked to hear that they wanted the most I've ever paid. read more

Wow, what a lovely surprise to find this Mom & Pop shop. What a selection! The dust on the wine tells me it's worth much more, it's probably vintage! Something the Queen herself would drink. A superior selection of Vodka's and fine cognacs. Top class shop. I especially like the flooring. Very retro, like a combination of old wax and pubic hair. I highly recommend. read more

Cripes ... they don't have prices on any of the beers in the cooler, it's only after you're rung-up you discover they're a good $1-2 more per six-pack than normal. Can you justify charging extra for convenience when there is a liquor store 3 blocks in every direction? read more

This place is super cool if you like paying triple the price of what you would at any other liquor store within a half mile.

High prices, terrible selection. One saving grace is friendly staff. A handle of Skedka here = $38, same thing at Argonaut = $18.

This place is so close by, that I usually visit this liquor store because I'm too lazy to walk or drive to a more substantial liquor store. Much of the sparse selection is lacking of any pricing information, so when I picked up a six pack of a New Belgium beer, I was amazed when it rang up at $13. The lady that is usually at the counter has always been friendly, but I was annoyed when she couldn't slide my credit card, and told me that Visa was going to charge me an additional $5 if she had to manually punch in the numbers... Now, I'm no credit card expert here, but I've never, before this day, been threatened by a cashier that the credit card headquarters was going to charge me a fee for the cashier's inconvenience of punching in my credit card number. read more

I shopped at this creepy store last week for a friend who drinks Vodka (I do not drink it and know nothing about sizes and pricing). The woman behind the counter was brusque and pressured me to buy what she pulled off a shelf behind her. I only found out later I got ripped off. How do they stay in business? Ick. read more

I've only come here a few times before for a bottle of wine and it's been fine, but I just paid $41 for a $20 bottle of jack!! I thought I must have misheard the clerk, but like other reviews say, they are REALLY overpriced. Yikes. Lost my business. read more

Convenience has it's price. Expect to find a small selection at a very high cost.

Went there on a pinch and won't be going back. The cashier was friendly, though the place was dumpy looking and the wine selection was awful and over priced. read more

How this place stays in business is completely beyond me. They purposefully rip off everyone who walks through the door by mis marking price tags and sometimes just refusing to even list the prices of items they sell. Everything costs at least 25% more then it should. read more
