$450 for straightening a pole and touch up paint. I own a moving company and one of our guys bumped a pole trying to back down a steep driveway upon the customers request. Unfortunately our customer wasn't the owner of the property and the owner wanted the fence installers to do the touch up. Fast forward and now we're being charged this crazy amount for one pole to be painted. If you ever need repairs from Capital Fence go pick the paint up yourself and save lots of money. If I would have know that I was going to be reamed I would not have agreed and just painted the pole myself. read more

Quick Update: We had a few adjustments and changes to our iron fence and Randy and his crew made it effortless to get them done. He cares and wants to make sure you are happy with your project. We enjoy coming home and seeing our fence!! read more

Team did a great job installing a custom automatic fence to match the existing fence & terrain. This was after another company did an inadequate job & their work was scraped. If you have a custom job, highly recommend Capitol Fence. read more

When I bought my 1948 Tarrytown charmer (read: lots to fix), the one major must-have it came with was an automatic gate on the driveway. My family loves that gate as much as our dog, and can't imagine living without it! Despite my love for it, we have back into it at least two times and had to call on Capitol Fence to fix it. In addition to the repairs, they have replaced batteries, resodered the hinge, and lubricated the joints on a regular basis. They also dealt with a battery warranty issue and got them replaced for free -- despite no obligation to do so. They always do a first class job at a very reasonable price. William does most of their repair work and he is stellar. read more

Mike and Alex were amazing to work with. I love my new fence and I get compliments on it all the time!!

When we built our house 5 years ago, I took one look at the builder grade fence and told my wife "plan on replacing that in half a decade". Right on schedule, it started coming down on it's own. I contacted 3 fence companies, and was very specific about what I wanted bid. I requested a 7' high cedar privacy fence with metal poles and 3 stringers. (There was actually a 4th company that I contacted, and their response was "you don't need that". To which I asked "how do you know what I need without setting foot on my property". End of discussion.) One company wrote up a bid for a 6' fence with wooden posts. I called them on it, and asked if they wanted to rebid. They said "don't worry...it will just be a little more". OK...one down. The second company wrote up the bid correctly, but didn't specify the materials they were going to use. They were also incredibly expensive. Capitol Fence was the only company that wrote up what I considered a complete bid to include specifiying the exact materials they were going to use, as well as breaking down the costs (installation, demo, gates, etc). What really sold me was the option of getting welded steel frame gates that are fabricated on site. The first thing that usually goes out of whack is the gate...it will start dragging and not close correctly. Not these things...they're going to still be standing long after I'm gone! We had weather related delays, but once we got started it sailed right through. The back of our property backs up to a walking trail, so Mike (the company president...who actually came out to give me my bid) was insistent on getting that side done in one day for security reasons. That meant a lot to us. In the end, we got a great fence that's built the way I would do it myself if I had the time and energy (ie; over-engineered!). It's straight, solid, and not going anywhere. The site supervisor Darren and the crew were courteous, professional, and hard workers. And in the end, the invoice reflected exactly what we expected. If there was a "like" button, this is where I would press it. read more

We purchased our house in April of 2012 in the Crestview area. The first thing we knew right off the bat was that we were going to have to replace the fence as the original one was still there and made of old metal. We checked out a couple fence companies and were referred to Capitol Fence through a landscaping company that we were working with. We were able to get an appointment within the week. Darren came out and walked us through the process of tearing down the old fence and putting up the new. Darren brought a lot of pictures with him in order to help us "see" how the new fence would look at our new place. Darren got us an estimate in less than 24 hours along with variations of the estimate as we had a strict budget we were trying to fit in to. The fence was not cheap but the guys at Capitol Fence did an AMAZING job. They estimated the fence to take a week to put in (we have a very large backyard) but it only took them 2 days!!!! Due to our budget constraints we were unable to afford to have Capitol Fence stain the fence for us so we decided to take on the task ourselves. 500 linear feet of fence (ouch!). Darren was kind enough to offer to come over when we were ready to stain and show us how to use the paint sprayer and walk us through the motions. It took us about 3 months to save up the money to stain the fence. At that time, I gave Darren a call to see if he was available. I was sure that with the time that had passed, he would probably not be able to do it for some reason or another. I was totally shocked when he told us he'd be happy to come over and show us the ropes. He even sent me a list of all the supplies we would need so we wouldn't forget anything. On top of all that, he shopped around paint sprayer and found us a cheaper deal then the one we anticipated getting! Seriously ABOVE AND BEYOND. Darren showed up on a Friday and walked us through how to stain the fence. THEN, HE STAYED AND HELPED US! I'm not even kidding! This guy took hours out of his Friday afternoon to help us stain our fence because we could not afford to pay the company he worked for to do it. He went out to tell us that Capitol Fence is just as invested in how our fence looks as we are. He also through in there that he really likes using the paint sprayer. Seriously, he was like a kid in a candy store. Or a man in a tool shop... Anyway, I can't say enough about how awesome this company is. You absolutely get what you pay for and I'm so thankful that we were referred to these guys. I'll never use another anyone else for my fence and decking needs and I will always recommend these guys. read more

Darren came out and was quite helpful. We thought we had it all narrowed down , Darren even left a fence sample. But Darren never followed up with his written bid. I emailed him months later and he said "gimme a call". I said "send your bid". No response. He even left his darn sample fence here. Don't waste your time with this guy. read more

From the start I wanted to work with these guys because after YEARS of looking we finally saw a fence design & installation that we loved and these guys had built it. After reading these Yelp reviews, I admit I was skeptical about choosing Capitol. Armed with the knowledge of where other Yelpers had had issues, I made it my mission to make working with Capitol a satisfying experience. Knowing that others had "fallen off the radar" without ever receiving their bids, I made certain to pester them (including an email to the company owner), until my bid was delivered. Yes, it was a little later than promised, but I was persistent and I got my bid. Having seen the work they had done, I knew my proactive approach to getting the job done was going to pay off in a gorgeous fence. We chose a pretty involved design, with lots of metal posts & digging in hard clay soil, so the demo of our old fence & building the new fence took about 5 days. I routinely checked in on the progress & found it easy and comfortable communicating with the workers when I had questions or comments about how things were looking. They worked clean, and quiet (all the digging was by hand), and they always asked if they had questions along the way - I love that. Wayne, the construction manager, was readily available & responsive to my comments and questions. After the job was complete, I told him that we wanted to add an additional lock on the inside of the gate and he stopped by to give me a can of the spray paint they used so the new latch would exactly match the other hardware they had installed. He might have offered to put in a secondary latch for us, but we felt that was something we could DIY. A few weeks after installation, we had the fence stained and I found one issue with the construction - there was one row of boards where the light came through unevenly. This became very apparent once the dark stain was applied. When I showed it to Darren he took the words right out of my mouth. He said, " Once you see something like that, you just can't not see it. It has to be fixed." That was exactly my feeling and it was so nice that he agreed & they came back to fix it ASAP (even though the job had been completed & fully paid for for several weeks). read more

I now live in IL, and I contacted Capitol fence for information on the materials of the popular Austin ' bull fence' so that I could explore having it built here. I called seven fence companies in my area, and none could find that wire, and yet the 'Estimations Manager' at Capitol did some research on suppliers in the midwest and found them for me! From the beginning, it was clear to them that they wouldnt make any money from me, yet they were kind enough to help me anyway - and within 24 hours. THANK YOU!! read more

I called and made a appointment for yesterday 4/6 between 4 and 5pm. A few minutes to 5 i texted them to get a eta and he responded back saying he was at a bank and lost track of the time but would call after. Never got a call so i figured he blew off my appointment. Not very professional if you ask me. I've moved on and will get someone thats wants the work. read more

I thought that they did an excellent job on our driveway gate. They even got behind on another project due to weather, but still kept their day to start with us. They texted when the guys were coming, and kept me abreast of any delays with parts. Everyone was super helpful and wonderful to work with. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat to install a driveway gate. Excellent work, honestly. read more

Mike with Capitol Fence did an exceptional job on my custom fence and gate. I had a industrial designer who provided the design which he followed precisely. My neighbors have praised the work as well. After the fence and gates were installed, I additional requests for gate locks--an extra measure of security. Mike had this immediately installed. My job was not an easy one--about a 25' drop on the property with two gates, one solar & one electric (for backup). I've very satisfied with the beautiful job & the maintenance thereafter. Overall, we had a really great experience working with Capitol Fence. 100% of the work, from the estimate to the construction was done by Randy and he was fantastic. Very professional, timely, and flexible with a few of the "quirks" for our job. We wanted a new construction, 260 linear ft horizontal cedar fence on steel posts. From the day of the estimate to the first day of construction was two weeks which was fairly quick. Randy did the entire job by himself (post holes and all in July heat) in 3.5 days during the holiday week. Our fence looks fantastic and we've had neighbors asking about it all week. I took off one star as I wish the materials used were a little better. This really isn't Capitol Fence's fault as they are at the mercy of the suppliers and apparently there are some lumber supply limitations at the moment (high demand, possibility of looming tariffs, etc). While the quality of the cedar boards is still way above what you would get from a box store, there is some warping and bowing which will create uneven spacing is sections. This is probably par for the course when working with wood but I'm a perfectionist with a little OCD issue... With that said, we would completely recommend Capitol Fence (and specifically Randy) if you have a residential fencing need! read more

Excellent, quality workmanship. Darren was a very thorough and descriptive estimator. He brought samples of all of the items used on the fence. They did a great job all around. It's not a cheap purchase, but we know the fence will be in good shape for many, many years to come. read more

We had a solar powered gate installed by Mike and his team, and we were very happy with the finished job. I initially spoke with Mike over the phone to discuss the project and he walked me through every step and cost during the initial consultation. I then received an emailed breakdown of the project followed by an on-site review of our property and the gate location. The upfront time Mike invested in what I imagine is a rather small job for their team was greatly appreciated and convinced me to choose them to complete the project. The process of building the fence and gate proceeded exactly as it was described to us, and the team was very proficient and professional. We had one issue with the pedestrian gate that needed to be adjusted. After emailing Mike about the problem a member of his team came by the next morning to make the necessary adjustments. We appreciated their speed and thoroughness on our gate/fence work and happily recommend them. read more

We started looking into fencing with no idea what fencing costs. Our first bidder saw our concern over price and tried to sell a few lesser fences, but we just weren't communicating. Our second bid, over the phone, was half the first bid, but they were going to use cedar posts, and we worried the posts would rot in half the time. Enter Darren. He listened carefully to our concerns, and suggested we build in stages. He outlined the front yard as one stage, and as we could afford, we could build out the back. Our reasons for building centered around immediate problems we faced in the front, and his idea resonated with us. We jumped. I work from home, and said all along that they could start any time--sooner is better. But if you're planning to look back on your fence (or anything else the awesome contractors I worked with did for us) ten years from now and think "man, it's so awesome, but he was 10 minutes late that day", go somewhere else! I don't want to subject my guys to you! Alan did a great job making sure we were all in agreement with the nuances of the fence before we started. Another reviewer quoted the installers' names, and my memory is slightly different--I probably butchered the guy's names on both jobs... The installers put in the posts one day, then the rest on day two. The posts were straighter than the walls of any house I ever lived in! The finished fence won many complements from many folks we'd never had stop by before, and months later, we're still meeting new neighbors over the fence! We called them out for Phase II and it turned out every bit as good as. Phase I. We highly recommend them to any and all that stop by to ask us about it! As an aside, I'm not aware of anyone else in Austin that uses the same fence posts on a bull panel fence. Take a close look at their photos, and compare them to the other installers in town. There's the cedar post guys, and some guys that wrap a chain link fence post in cedar and hang bull panel from it. We felt the bull panel fence design from Capitol Fence looked the best, and our neighbors love it too! read more

I talked to quite a few companies before hiring Capitol Fence to install a fence and motorized gate for me in 2008. It was the right choice! They were very professional, fast, and did a great job. Just recently I called because I had a problem with the gate. It turns out it was just a dead battery, but William was out the next day and got it working again in no time. read more

Had to get on yelp to leave a review for Mike and his team at Capitol Fence. About 10 years ago I used Capitol Fence to install electronic swing arms to some garage gates I built. The install was great. The guys were professional and the job was done perfectly, even on a gate they didn't build. They installed a Liftmaster unit they had recommended. So why did it take me 10 years to write a review?? About 5 years ago I ran into my first minor problem with the opener and called Mike for some help in troubleshooting. He knew right off the bat the problem, just had to replace a few batteries which it turns out is routine maintenance. I got the batteries and installed them...boom worked beautifully. A few years after that, I had another minor issue so I called Mike. He wasn't quite sure how to handle this one so he had his installer call me to help out. The guy called and got me back up and running in no time. Now, just today, I reached out for Mike to help me troubleshoot another item and he happily did it. To sum it up, he did a great job for me 10 years ago but the thing is he has come to the rescue for me several times since then. He's the real deal if you want someone that is there for you after the sale. Most would have wanted to send out tech and charge me an $80 fee. I have only been in Austin for 13 years. I have had several home projects in those 13 years. Unfortunately I have also had some really crappy contractors in that time so I thought it was necessary to talk about someone who lives by the "old school" way of thinking. Offer great service and be there for your customers when they call you again. I think many of the contractors in Austin have forgotten that part. Mike is the real deal!! read more

Contacted Capitol Fence and Deck after seeing their name on a couple fences we liked. We called and Darren came out to look at our yard. After receiving a few bids we decided on going with Darren. It wasn't because of price as all bids were very close in price and quality, but because we felt the most comfortable with Darren. We were in a time crunch as we were set to move in to our home in 10 days. Darren told us no problem and had a crew out there 3 days later. It even left us with enough time to get sod down for the dogs before we moved in. We chose a 6 foot iron fence for our yard. The fence looks absolutely stunning. No debris was left behind by the installers. I would highly recommend Capitol Fence and Deck and Darren to anyone looking for a new fence. read more

We do NOT recommend Capitol Fence to anyone. TERRIBLE! Van set the day and time to come out and look at the fence to be replaced. He showed up over an hour late (to the time HE chose) with a flimsy muttered excuse. He attempted to step into my home without an invitation. Then I think he did some measurements outside and we haven't heard from him since. That was nearly two months ago. Do yourself a favor and pay attention to the negative reviews. This contractor is not trustworthy and not consistent beginning with the initial inspection. Not recommended unless you like to gamble with your time. I shudder to think where we'd be if we went forward with this guy. read more

Called Capitol to come out a take a look at my fence project. The sale rep (Darren) had some great suggestions, we went with them, and I waited for a proposal. I have been waiting for two weeks now. How do company's expect to get business when you cant even get a proposal form them? read more

I do not recommend Capitol Fence Company because of their poor communications and the quality of their work. During 5 months of negotiations in which I tried to coordinate having the wood fences of my property and 6 neighbors replaced, the Capitol Fence Estimations Manager did not return phone calls or emails promptly, if at all. After I wrote to him and the company owner cancelling the contract and requesting my deposit be returned, he provided a quote that included all the requirements we had discussed. It was only when I caught him leaving a neighbor's house that he agreed to the final contract. The actual work was managed by the Operations Manager, who was much more responsive. The crew who built the fence did not seem to be employed by Capitol Fence, but were subcontractors paid per job. They were good technicians in that they built a straight, sturdy fence of cedar pickets and treated pine posts and rails. However, as they neared the end of the job, they did not follow the drawing I had provided and installed 18 feet of pickets on the wrong side of the fence. When they built the gate, they left gaps in the 2 X 4 frame and mounted the inside handle in the wrong place. The Ops Mgr had them correct those issues, but they were building neighbors fences at the time and were slow to return to my yard to finish the corrections. The end cost was less than other fence companies had quoted, but the additional cost and frustration of poor communications was not worth the difference. My advice: check references, talk to previous customers and see their work before choosing a fence contractor. read more

I have done business with Mike Morrow, the owner of Capitol Fence for the past decade. Our original job we bid out to 3 firms, Capitol was not the most expensive, or the least expensive. It was right in the middle, and after meeting with Mike, I had a good feeling that he would do what he said, when he said he would do it. He did. We have since done a couple of other projects with them, and they always deliver a quality product, at a fair price. I don't even bother getting bids from other firms at this point. I highly recommend Capitol Fence, and have done so to several friends and colleagues, and all of them have been as equally pleased as I. First rate service, quality product, fair price. read more

I have to say that I am pretty good about giving people chances. And I feel as though I gave Capitol Fence & Deck as many chances as they deserve and more. I called Capitol Fence & Deck and left a message saying that I needed a quote, and I also filled out their online form. I never heard from them. So, a few days later, I tried calling again. This time, the receptionist answered and was able to get me scheduled for a quote. The gentleman that was sent out (I won't write his name as to not embarrass him too much, but probably knows who he is) called saying that he was going to be 15 minutes late. Well, he ended up showing up 30 minutes late. And that was really not good because my husband and I had somewhere to be 30 minutes after he arrived. So, we weren't able to have a good conversation about the project that we wanted done, and we felt very rushed. Even still, the guy had come out on a Thursday and said that he would email me a quote that Saturday. I waited and waited. Waited all the way until today (Tuesday), and still no quote. So, I called them again and the receptionist said that she would have him call me. Waited all day. No phone call. I am trying to hire someone that I can PAY to do a service for us. The last thing I want to do is have to chase someone down. I'm very disappointed by the lack of communication and professionalism that I have experienced with Capitol Fence & Deck. Their competitors, AusTex, will be getting our business as they were very professional, punctual, and kept great communication. read more

If you like indifference bordering on contempt, this is the business for you. I spent 45 minutes of my time with their estimator, and after a week of not hearing anything, called their office, left my name and number and was told I would be contacted. We used these guys for our last house and they did a good job. They came out to our next house after we moved in over a year ago. This was a very expensive fence. I have had quite a few neighbors asking me who built this fence. I live on one of the busiest streets in the Eanes school district, it gets lots of exposure. I have paid them over 11k USD for this job. They still have not finished the job. Small details still to be completed, staining incomplete and not even and a few fence post caps missing. They damaged my neighbors property and have not remedied the situation. We spent months chasing them down to come and try to finish the staining. Darren came out to do it but it needs another coat and the outside has no stain on my neighbors side of the fence. Then I get a call from them telling me I owe them 750 USD. This isn't the way I wanted this to end. We were very understanding with the delays on the earlier staining due to weather. They need to complete the work. Lack of response and zero humility. We had a lawyer send a letter to discuss the damage done to my neighbors home since they would not respond to them after they tried to contact them directly. They never accepted the letter and back to the lawyer it went. Try another builder if you need a fence completed. read more

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this company. I had a fine install of a product with an alleged 20 year warranty. Now there is rust on the fence and the drive gate stop clip rusted so bad it fell off. I have been contacting this company for over a month and now they won't return my call. Capitol Fence built both a wooden and an iron fence at our house in south austin 10 years ago and they both still look great! Great workmanship and great customer service a full decade after the sale! read more

I would highly recommend Capitol Fence. First of all they were the most responsive to my inquiry. Mike, the President, came out to give me an estimate within a few hours. While they were not the cheapest, they were very close to everyone else in price. I will say that no one could build a fence any better than the one they built for me. The metal posts are enclosed with cedar so they look like cedar posts but will last forever. The craftsmanship was absolutely the best I have ever seen. Every detail was perfect and the gates were the best I have ever seen. If you want a good fence, this company does it right. I could not be happier with everything and cannot say enough about how well they did on my fence that was not a easy job because to the slopes and rocky terrain. read more
