Reception was polite and professional. Brought it in for a Lamp and Brake inspection for $165. Failed the test and the parts took longer than 30 days to get so it's at full price to get a retest vs. $80 quoted. Called to get clarification on the failure and the owner Mike answered the phone, very rude and condescending. They also broke the trunk latch on my car when test driving. Don't know why they opened the trunk but when they pulled out of their drive on Story the lid was open and slammed down and back up in front of me as they drove down Story eastbound. We can get it tested for $140 no appointment required. Hard pass on the mechanical and customer service. If you like to overpay and a raised voice (some people are into that), this is your place. We signed the papperwork and she told me if it doesn't pass you are going to pay again and repeat and repeat you have to pay again. They told me light have some fog problem so I fixed it and went next day or so and she spoke to me like i was a little kid and said you have to make appointment. Just worse attitude some worker took my van and drive about 15 20 min which I have no idea what for she said it didn't pass again, emergency break light on dash don't work and she yell ac worker get the van out i swear to God she make me think theyre only guys in the world do this Inspection for savlage cars and I told her and she said we are professionals. I returned with my wife's vehicle to have that repaired and again they were very quick and informative about what the situation was. Overpriced and unfriendly. I came here because they were closest to my home that did an inspection I needed for registration. I was in a rush so I did not shop around, paid $120 for an inspection that runs $60-$80 elsewhere. The two people working in the office were unwelcoming and gave off a bad vibe. They failed my vehicle due to some criteria that I doubted was part of the inspection. I was correct, went to another local shop I found on Yelp and passed inspection the same day. We had smog test done on our 1995 van/camper by another Star Smog Garage and it failed with high HC and Evap Leak. We took our van/camper to Capitol Auto Care to fix the failed smog test problems. Capitol Auto Care ran the smog test again so they would have a better idea of what had to be done. Apparently the other Star Smog Garage ran the wrong test (based on the size and weight of our van/camper) and it passed! The mechanic was very efficient and the front office very helpful. We will bring all of our cars here for smog testing from now on. I did not have any work done on my van/camper, but I would imagine they would be just as efficient. read more

Thanks Mike for making this smog, which is usually a painful and ugly requirement, so easy and fast! I always forget that I need to smog my car every two years (because it's such an inconsistent requirement) that I almost always send in my registration and wait for a month before realizing that I may have needed to do something else. By that time I almost always threw away the stub of the registration since I already paid for it ... Luckily, I caught it this time around, but due to excessive traveling was low on time. Went for a smog and diagnostic. They suggested change of sensors. After research found that there was more than 300% mark up on the parts. Giving the benefit of doubt i asked for a reason of such a high cost for parts. They said that what they charge. Was hard to trust after that so I Took my business elsewhere. Very fast service and efficient, but overpriced. I had gone to many places to get a brake and light inspection and couldn't find any shop who did it. And finally somebody told me of this place, so I assumed it was one of the only places that did this inspection. Service was fast but they charge for inspections even if you don't pass. And this is NOT a complaint because I knew this before I signed the paperwork. Then I went to another shop AFTER and they told me they did inspections FREE if your car didn't pass. I had paid the $120 inspection for nothing. Capitol Auto Care then quoted me almost $2000 to fix the problems, but I chose to fix at the other place where they charged me $500. And it passed DMV. I really should have kept looking at more shops, so it was my fault. Bottom Line. Capitol auto care is very friendly, fast, efficient. The main guy(I'm guessing the owner) is very nice. Mike had to fix a shoddy job done by another shop. He saved the day for me and did it expertly and efficiently. I could tell that Capitol Auto Care would do the work with precision and care not only by discussing my problem with Mike, but just seeing the cleanliness and organization of his shop. It was easy for me to decide that I found my main mechanic going forward. You would think that a spark plug change would be a no brainer, but "the other place" cross-threaded and yet continued to tighten a spark plug ruining the threads on my engine. It's really hard to find a trust worthy and good mechanic. Been to a couple places that have tried to rip me off. My husband initially went here first and after he told me about his experience I decided to check it out. This shop is run by a father son duo. They are easy to talk to and they really work with you. I would recommend making an appointment since they are busy! While I was waiting for my oil change, two other first time customers came for a service. My grandmother's car was brought in for a vibration. They could not determine the cause and said they could not feel the vibration. ( even though I could clearly feel it during a 5 minute drive to church). We authorized a filter change and cleaning of the throttle plate and maf sensor. Not knowing they wanted to charge 370$ for the job. Car vibrates still as felt during the 5 minute drive home .Should have just taken the car to the dealer. Edit : check out the owners 4 paragraph reply full of name calling where he can't justify the 400$ for changing an air filter and cleaning carbon of a easily accessible throttle body. And by the way the car had a bad 02 sensor which when we brought to a capable mechanic he knew within 2 minutes. Someone with experience knows problems aren't always stored as a DTC . Costumer friendliness is 8/10 Just because they make you feel your not suppose to know nothing about YOUR car. Like (my car did not show any light on when I took it and when I revived it back there was a light that wasn't there when I broth it in). 2.PRICE is a little bit overdone 100+ for every hr of labor. + the parts and etc. 3. Organization is 6/10 because when I left the pace I received a call asking if I had seen any keys from another car inside my car!( you lost some ones car key are you kidding me) that really irresponsible. And when you come in you always have to wait at least a couple of minutes for the paper work. Never ready. 4. Cleanness the place is clean noting fancy just simple. Really small. 5.
