To Whom it may Concern:
This document is a review of the actions of Capital R Construction Company.
First, a word of explanation:
When a customer deals with a vendor, and everything goes well, it is no test of either the customer nor the vendor. It is only when things go wrong that the Vendor and/or Customer shows their true mettle. Such was the case involving Capital R Construction, and myself, Leonard L Young Jr.
In April of 2014 I approached Capital R asking for a bid for a simple 24X36 shop, simply a concrete floor, walls, roof, and insulation, two man doors and one 8 to 10 foot roll up garage door manually operated. It didn't seem a great, or complicated project.
Being new to the Southwest, I went to a local contractor because I was very unfamiliar with both the weather and the local codes. The person I dealt with seemed knowledgeable at first, but soon, I began to get a feeling that he may be a little over his head. I continued with his rather unusual plan, because of my lack of knowledge about the local conditions. After several attempts he arrived at an acceptable bid which I accepted and asked how long until it would be completed. I was informed, verbally, that he would have it for me by the first week in July, two months seemed a reasonable amount of time because a company of that size surely had other projects going on.
On the fifteenth of July, they finally broke ground. The man who I had dealt with earlier, who seemed to be the project manager, had given me several excuses as to why the job had not been started yet. Indicating the county bureaucracy as the delay.
A few days later a carpenter showed up, with no help, few tools, and what appeared to be little expertise. After using my tools to drill holes in the concrete slab, and while putting anchors in the slab for the vertical beams, managed to break out the concrete slab in several places.
Finally I called and asked to talk to the owner of the company. I explained the situation and that I was quite displeased. His Immediate reaction was to send one of his Superintendents to my home to assess the situation, and to assure me that the job would be taken under his personal management, which it was. It seems that the original person I dealt with was NOT a project manager, and made promises to me that were not possible to keep. Mr. Robinson advised me that their situation was critical with another time limited project that was nearing a penalty deadline, and they had everyone working on that site. He also advised me that there were several things that could be done to reorganize my project in order to save money, and increase the value of the shop, however we would have to wait until the other project was finished before anyone could begin the revision. He told me up front that it would not be started until after the first of September. If the other person had explained the timing situation, it would have saved a lot of grief.
On the 2nd of Sept., a crew of 5 or 6 men arrived, at the agreed time, with tools, generator, compressor, and all of the necessary items. It took the crew a day and a half to undo the previous 'poor engineering'. The men were knowledgeable, and professional they were polite and courteous. The work proceeded smoothly, and was done professionally.
Mr Robinson and his crew did everything possible to undo the bad feelings and poor workmanship started by the other person. I am extremely pleased with the final outcome.
