I took to the internet to find a Realtor that has a web presence, experience, confidence and was professional. I chose 3 Realtors and decided I would use the first one that responded to my call. The first two Realtors that I called didn't answer their phones or even call back after the first day. When I called Skip, he answered his phone right away. I met with Skip and he was showing homes the very next day. He was very insightful and gave lots of good feedback about the area, price range, conditions and construction standards. He worked hard and found the dream home within 2 days. Skip gave all the relevant and current sales information to help determine an offering price. He negotiated diligently and based on his hard work, I purchased our home below market price and significantly below asking price. I went to Patten to get an expedited title search done so we could put a bid in for a foreclosed…read moreproperty. We met one of the most condescending people ever it was a older lady gray hair with glasses. I didn't catch her name. She was severely rude. She act as if we were Pan handlers soliciting on her property. When in fact, we a real estate investors. I also own several of the businesses in the area and around the country. I don't want to say it was racially motivated because me and my wife are African-American and she is Caucasian, but it absolutely felt cold and callous as if this was 1950 in the Jim Crow South. I strongly recommend corrective action be taken place as of today today's date. Monday, December 19, 2025 at approximately 3 PM this incident occurred. It was obvious that the lady did not want to do the title search and did not want to provide further service as we completely felt uncomfortable about receiving any service after the rudeness and dismissive condescending behavior. I hope the owners of Patten Title coach their staff on being able to communicate and engage in this diverse world of real estate.

It was partly my fault for even continuing this ignorant conversation but as a professional black woman I continued. When I told her my job she says to me "what does that mean, where are they? What do you do?" Questions that aren't usually asked within the first few seconds of being on a call. He was able to work around my schedule and we looked at houses over a five week period, both during the week in the evening and on the weekend. He was easy to work with and walked me thru the loan process. He also found me a grant to get assistance on closing and down payment. She contacted us several times after the transaction to provide resources for us concerning the property and she had no obligation to do so, she was the other parties agent. Nonetheless, her professionalism was easily noticed and her knowledge of the market can't be denied.
