The car was not advertised accurately--several major issues were never disclosed in the listing. What was described online as being in "good condition" turned out to have significant mechanical problems and cosmetic damage that were obvious upon inspection. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones - the car checked out ok and was described as a running car but really nothing more - it has a couple things that need to be done but I should make out okay - they go to great lengths to photo a vehicle but should give a more detailed condition report. I worked at Manheim in Bordentown NJ and it was it like night and day when I saw this place - they do tell you of a surcharge fee $95 - final price fee (depending on final bid) - internet fee $69 to$89 -$6 gas fee (BS) and the car was below empty when i got it - what they don't tell you is they will not give you the title they make you pay this tag monopoly place next to the office a (messenger) fee of $77 to transfer the title plus the title fee$60 and $126 for a temp tag OUCH - if you pay with a credit card an additional $70 something dollars when their merchant fee is only a few percent - long story short $2100 winning bid was over 3k by the time I left and not knowing if the car is even road worthy - YES it is a as is auction I get it - ALSO BEWARE of DEALER phantom bidding if you see a car with the prefix PCA or it doesn't read charity donation watch how fast the bids go up - those guys barely sold anything when it was a live drive auction and now they pump up the price of their own cars then stop and hope someone clicks on the next bid price - Also I think the charity cars have phantom bids as well from the auction house to get more fees. Whoever owns this started out selling junk yard cars to unsuspecting buyers and has built a little empire. The AI voice that is programmed in Philly is entertaining to listen to - a car will have 165,000 miles and it will say wow look at those miles - as a mechanic I can tell you it has problems or it is on its last leg. They charge you taxes on all fees and tell you it's a state requirement, so that needs to be verified! - So, they are running a pure profit business - selling JUNK for the most part or vehicles that need extensive work. BLESSING for them - I gave them a (3) star based on business ethics - but have you ever met an ethical used car dealer. that's my review BIDDER BEWARE - and yes, I would buy from them again - just remember the season of the year is everything when it comes to buying a car if you want to save money. I'm not sure why everyone is giving this place such bad reviews. It's a car auction you have to see what you buy and read what's wrong with the car. I personally had a great experience, Raina is such a sweetheart. She helped me by answering all the questions I had when I bought my first car from here for my father who recently had to junk his truck. Just bought my second car from here for a family friend who is having a rough time and needed something to get from point A to point B. Thank you Raina ! Sold me a car with undisclosed frame damage... Pictures and description show a very solid car with dents, dings and scrapes but one heavily rust proofed undercarriage pic. This is nothing but a scam, They tell u car is running but they don't tell you the OBD codes were deleted and will come back in about 100 miles drive. Also they will not allow you to see the vehicle in person pre-auction. the only time you will see the car is after you paid everything first. On my auction ad it said this car comes with $95 surcharge but BOOOOM after the auction i was hit with over $600 is bogus fees, Internet fee, buy fee, auctioneer fee and even fuel surcharge even if the car was ZERO miles to empty. Right before they give you the keys they get you to sign all kind of disclaimers , You are buying a vehicle which is not roadworthy. and might need extensive and financial unfeasible repairs. Just bought a car from an online auction, thought I got a good deal but the fees literally doubled the price that I paid. Not only did I pay more in fees then I paid for the car, but when I got the car it looks absolutely nothing like it did in the photos. The car was filled with junk and there was tape on the windows, the hood was stuck opened a little, the console was falling apart, literally the worse purchase I've ever made and I highly recommend you not purchasing from here. If I could negative stars I would, I just had the most stressful nightmare kind of purchase in my life at this place, first of all for records it's not the first time I buy a car from them, I had a successful experience at the NH location. Now back to this one, usually they post if there is anything critically wrong with the car, they said on the website the car was running and that the only issue was a noise on the AC compressor, I thought great, that's fixable, I drove all the way from Mass (on a rental) to Philadelphia to get the car, when they brought the car to me (08 Volvo VC70) it had a horrid noise coming from the engine, I checked the levels it had no coolant and no engine fluid, I thought okay maybe the car was sitting on the lot for too long, I went out of my way to get the fluids and correctly topped them off, ( also the car wouldn't even start with a dead battery), one of their employers came to help smelling alcohol, visibly drunk, and thought that because I am a woman and that I was by myself it'd be okay to invade my personal space and made advances, I had to demand to him to back the fuck off and quit touching my back. Engine and transmission fluid topped off and I started the car and started driving, it didn't even take quarter of mile for a warning message on dashboard saying the engine was over-heating and I had to stop the car. Here I was, in a very shady neighborhood, stranded in a city I didn't know anyone and without a car. I lost over $2300 with all the costs to get this car just to have to sell it at the spot for $300 (had to money for hotel and train ticket to come back home) for a junkyard (ended up car had bad cylinder head gasket *** cooling mixed with engine fluid, would need a another engine ***** and they didn't disclosure it) I felt robbed, scammed, harassed and disrespected in all possible ways, and I am going to file a lawsuit over this and their employer complete inappropriate behavior. Don't BUY HERE!!!!!! I bought this car here cause I needed to go and back from work, the savings I had went to it, now I am here without money and car, again, feeling completely ripped off . This is the biggest scam in PA. The car said running, but they didn't mention the Brake lines were all bad and the power steering was shot. Not to mention $700.00 in tacked on fees ! My son brought a car (LEMON) less than 2 weeks ago and now the car won't start! Now he's out of $3,000! I warned him plenty of times not to buy no car from this dump, but he didn't listen. The customer service is ghetto and unprofessional! All they care about is money! I thought it was against the law to sell a LEMON! I have many cars over the last 20 years from Capital Auto Auction. They make buying a car fun, but don't get me wrong it is a serious business. Don't bid if you don't have the money or if you don't really want to buy the car, because if the auctioneer puts the hammer down and yells sold at you, you own that car. Sometimes when they sell a lot of cars the lines to pay are long, so prepare for that and always be nice to the girls at the window, they have helped me many times with my titles great staff I love them. TERRIBLE! If y'all thinking of getting a car here off auction DO NOT. we came to pick up a Jeep that said "running" when we placed a bid. The car also had no mention of the cracked windshield in the description or in the pictures. After waiting at 3 different windows for OVER 2 hours we finally got the paperwork (crazy thing is there were about 10 people in there working, we saw 6 customers within the time we were there, yet it still took forever. They also ignored and acted like they couldn't hear an older gentlemen's who had entered the facility and waited for 20 mins for anyone to say a word to him.) But when we got to the car they couldn't get it to start after several tries and there was a huge crack on the windshield that wasn't in the description. After messing with it for a bit while we waited for a refund they were able to get it running and stated that "they could get it running but couldn't keep it running so the description was still accurate". At this point we didn't want the car anymore but they still charged us a $200 fee for PRINTING THE TITLE that was never sent. Just printed and destroyed. Overall it's a scam y'all. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. This business is a shady operation that's just trying to take your money instead of giving quality service. Would not recommend. 0/5 stars if I could read more

Regarding the online auctions - after you go through the trouble of registering and actually logging into an auction you learn that there are reserves on every auction which combined with the vague descriptions, possibly unlisted vehicle problems and tiny photos makes it much less enticing than ebay. read more

I purchased a car from there in Philadelphia, 10/02/2019 at around 8:30 pm I drove it home not even 30 minutes and car isn't working, making loud noise start moving fluids are out must be a hole. I brought the car from dealer selection 2012 dodge caravan, (paid over $3,000) that window said great running condition. When the car went through the line it said green light when I received my paperwork after purchasing it said as is. Employees are helpful especially one old guy that was helping me out since it was my first time auctioning. Not sure his name but he was really down to earth and I'm grateful to have met him. As for the cars, my dad bought 4 from here one Kia Sedona 06 & a Jeep Liberty. Nothing wrong with the liberty and nothing major wrong with the Kia too. My dad also bought a Volkswagen Jetta 2005 and it was running good too. Now my dad bought a 2006 Honda Civic and let me tell you all something ESPECIALLY if you are new to this auction like I was. The mechanics and gate keeper are working together to mess up these running cars to keep for themselves. Attention to management and the OWNER. Your employees in the back lot are taking apart YOUR cars and messing up parts from these cars so that your buyers don't end up getting them! Please beware. My dad came in 4 days later to pick up his civic and they pulled apart something in the engine so that it would not start anymore. When it was running in great condition when my dad came to see it on Saturday. He left it at the auction until Thursday and that's when the guys in the back fucked with it so that my dad didn't want to take it . It is an INSIDER job and I'm sure that the owner has no clue what is going on in his auction. A piece of advice to everyone: do yourself a favor and do not leave your winning car at the lot for any amount of days. If you have the money and the car is in GOOD condition take it.. do NOT leave it at the auction because the mechanics and gate keeper will mess with your car so that you do not end up taking it and they end up buying it and getting it for themselves instead. Absolute WORST customer service I have encountered in a very, very long time. While trying to donate a vehicle to Cars Helping Veterans, I was put in contact with this shame of a business and not one bit of this experience has been positive. For over three weeks, I have been given the run around as to when CAA is going to pick up my vehicle. Finally today, after calling every other day (being told someone would call me right back every time), I was told that they will not be taking my donation and I need to call the charity and find a new company to pick it up. Apparently, Capital Auto Auction doesn't want to help this country's veterans. If they don't care about helping the men and woman who defend us, I suggest you take your business elsewhere. read more

Green light scam. When you put a green light on a car, you get one hour to test drive the car, I'll say it again "TEST DRIVE" the car. The car won't start in the lot, It should at least start, so you can test drive it. The car won't start, they tell me it's not the engine, they jump start it, it shakes and cut off. The doors on the passenger side won't open. they want me to paid for a mechanic, have the car tows and buy a battery before they will acknowledge the car park in their lot is not a green light car. NO!!! this is not a green light car, stop being deceitful. I'm not asking for money back. Let me bid on another car, with a red light car I'll accept my lost. Easy right, not with this customer service, worst customer service anywhere they want to argue instead of fixing the problem. I have been here many times trying to bid on a car they dont give enough time to check the car yes they give you an hour b4 to look at the cars that are going out they should at least leave the keys in the ignition to at least let you start the car and look through it b4 the auction begins then when the auction starts you dont have much time to make a decision to bid on the car. read more

I DID NOT go in with the wrong expectations, I know what it means to buy a car from an auction. My problem is if you check the car out and list what is wrong, list all that is wrong especially when it's major and I know they knew because it couldn't be missed. Even the thrift won't take items that are broken, have holes or that are dirty, so don't compare yourself to thrift store shopping. My problem is I should never have read what they listed as wrong and not been at the facility to see the car running. Also I was told by two of the employees that the keys they cut don't usually work after they cut them so I was there for an additional twenty five minutes with the two gentlemen just trying to get the car started. So I definitely stand by my review. This auction is for people who want to fix cars up and flip them. Just don't go and spend your hard earned money expecting to even drive the car forty minutes away without a problem. read more

Junk cars. You can wait paperwork 3-4 hours. Just waist you r time and money. No any warranty. No any chance to check the vehicle.

Scam company. They spray the cars before they enter, so you don't see if they are leaking. They instruct their drivers employees to not say anything about condition of car that they noticed while they drive it on the auction lane. Transmission bad? They're not allowed to tell you what they noticed. If you ask - they are mute. Their website say "starting at $100", but they even the junkest junk they don't let go for under $300. Ghost bidding - you bid something, then the auctioneer points his stick to "somewhere else" and increases the price by 100, then points the stick back to you - nobody bid, but now you're thinking someone actually bid more than you, and raise your bid. In many cases even if you have the highest bid, they say "no sale". The buyer fee is ridiculous - you buy a $500-$600 junk car, and you'll pay 30% buyer fee, on top of the title transfer, and plate. So you'll pay close to $1000 and be scammed into buying a junk with a bad transmission or leaking without you knowing. Stay away from these scammers. read more

I'm so pissed, this was my first time at an auction as my transmission went in November and was recently able to afford to get a car. I have a one year old and a four year old so having a car to get me from point A to point B is essential. Long story short, I purchased a car from here, after hours of waiting I finally took the car off the lot. I drove it down the boulevard, when it was almost time for me to get off, the car started making this beeping sound and a red light oil light kept coming on. The car started to stall and smoke. Then it just stopped and would not drive at all. I didn't even make it home, with my one year old daughter sleeping in the back seat at 8:30 at night. Thanks Capital Auto Auction for selling my family a piece of shit. So now I'm stuck with two cars that don't run smh. Annnnnddddd someone got me for $100. Also I couldn't find the car in the lot and not one of your employees wanted to help me, mind you I'm carrying my daughter in my arms searching for this car for about a half hour. I gave you guys two stars because the customer service was good, I meant one of the drivers whom gave me a lot of good advice and looked out for me (no he did not advise me to get the car that I got), the girls in the first office were really nice, and the guy that took care of me in title and registration was attentive to me even though the room was packed.
