Just got home from a week staying here in a 2 bed 1 bath room. I will start by saying the service here was good; the staff was kind and the included offers were decent (margarita mondays, popsicle tuesday, etc). Parking was limited, but we were still able to find a spot every night. That's about where my positives end. Privacy is a concern within this particular room. The toilet and shower were in the same area, which made for complications with 4 grown adults and needing to rotate using the facilities. On top of this, the door leading into this area was a sliding barn door that had significant gaps-- even when closed all the way--and refused to stay closed. The door leading to the bathroom from the master bedroom was the same barn door style and did little in terms of privacy, light, or noise. The standard door with a knob leading in from the common area was installed improperly, and thus, never closes correctly. Someone opening the door to the other bedroom is enough to force the master bedroom open. We were on the first floor, despite requesting an upper floor, so no pretty sunset views for us. In fact, being at ground level, it was impossible to escape the ongoing noise pollution from being located right on PCH. Not to mention how infuriating loud the passing train is. We spent all week tossing and turning. This room had some of the most uncomfortable beds I'd ever had the misfortune of sleeping on. Several group members, myself included, complained of sore hips and backs after even the first night. In addition, check your sheets as small blood stains could be found on both beds. The sheets themselves, in both beds, and for the pullout couch (which was even more unenjoyable than the bed) were incredibly uncomfortable, with noticeable piling that could be felt across your skin regardless of where you lay. All in all, as much as the area has to offer during our time, I doubt we'll be returning. read more

So, as background, my wife and I have stayed here regularly for over 30 years. We are not owners, we live in Los Angeles, and come down during off peak times just to have a room on the beach where we can relax and hear the waves. A couple of weeks ago, I was returning from a trip in a Sunday night and found our hot water heater was leaking, so I made a last minute reservation at 330 in the afternoon and headed to Dana Point so that I could shower. We've always had an oceanfront room and quite honestly, I wasn't even aware that they had rooms that weren't oceanfront. We checked in at 530, and went to our room and entered to find our room facing a wall of dirt and weeds in the back of the hotel. I approached the front desk and told them that this wasn't acceptable and that I would find somewhere else to stay if they were unable to accommodate us. The lady at the front desk said that they would still be charging the full rate as we weren't cancelling at least 48 hours in advance. Suffice to say, we won't be staying there anymore. Amanda, the manager is useless and clearly doesn't understand the value of repeat customers. Normally, we would stay here in off peak times (i.e. winter time during the week). Had she been willing to work with me, she could have made an effort to keep me as a customer, but clearly she has no concept of running a successful business, so the $200 that she made that night ultimately cost her thousands in future business. Beware of this place, they don't want your business, as they have people who are ignorant and paid into their time share scam. Go to the Best Western down the street, same price, and no BS to deal with read more

Paid extra for an ocean view. Got a great view of the weeds behind the building. I asked to have the manager contact us the next day. Did she? Of course not. I am shocked this is a time share place. It's just barely better than a dump. The couch is absolutely horrible, the beds are made from stone. The shower situation was a joke. You have to climb over a high double tub to not be able to stand near the shower head. The only upside of this place was that the fridge was cold. For these prices, there are literally hundreds of better places to stay. And PLEASE don't be silly enough to buy into this scam. read more

This place is wonderful! My friend and I stayed last weekend in the 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Awesome balcony and view, and it was so spacious, comfortable, and quiet. The front desk staff and their communication was amazing. It is in the perfect location to the beaches, Dana Point, and places to eat. The pedestrian bridge that gets you across the street is perfect to get across what can be the busy PCH. We didn't get to use the pool and hot tub, but it looked inviting! More of a time share/apartment Place but anyone can get a room here. I stayed here while working to wasn't able to take full advantage of all of their amenities but they have them. The rooms are nice and apartment style. Full kitchen, living room, master bedroom, dining table, patio with grill, etc. The couch in the living room also opened up to a bed. Dishes, utensils, coffee maker, dishwasher were all in the room as well. Full size fridge, stove, microwave, etc The bathroom was huge with a hot tub as well. The toilet was in the same room but has its own door. Two sinks, one in the bathroom and one in the master bedroom. Laundry was also available on site, coin operated and they had a pool and hot tub as well. The beach though was right across the street. The team at Surfside Inn are so so nice and friendly. The rooms are great and location can't be beat. We enjoyed the bike ride on PCH and loved how they loan the bikes out even many to choose from. I wish I would have taken pictures when we first came in! Our room was on the bottom floor, and newly renovated. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suit and had an ocean view! The staff was kind, and the recreation room was great, especially when entertaining our 2.5 year old while his baby sister napped. It is walking distance from the beach and a yummy Mexican food restaurant the next parking lot over. The beds were slightly hard, but the linens were clean, they provided many towels, and the kitchen was nicely stocked with necessities. And the price was RIGHT! We felt like the cost was extremely reasonable for the location. We would DEFINITELY stay here again. Maybe on the third floor so we aren't looking directly at PCH, but the view of the ocean makes up for that. read more

Their cleaning staff will steal your stuff and the hotel will do absolutely nothing about it. Make sure to take all your valuables with you and never leave them in the room. Do you want to sit on your balcony and watch the sunset paint the sky over the ocean beyond Dana Point? Do you want to wake up to the sound of the waves lapping against the shore? Do you want to sound like a bad advertisement for a very good hotel? Clearly I do, because I am a huge cheerleader for Capistrano Surfside Inn after staying there. This is a timeshare that is part of the RCI network of hotels, but they also book their rooms online outside of the timeshare world. They offer three room sizes: One bedroom units, two bedroom one bath units. and 2 bedroom 2 bathroom units. All units have full kitchens. I stayed in three different rooms for a long business trip recently. The most updated units were the two bedroom two bathroom units. The smaller two bedroom units are a little dated, but they were perfectly clean and had everything I needed to be comfortable. They also have a better view of the ocean. All of the units I stayed in had jetted tubs and all of them had a BBQ on the deck. None of this really mattered to me because I just wanted to sit out on the balcony and stare at the Pacific. The best part of this place is definitely the location. It's within very easy walking distance of Dana Point Marina and Capistrano Beach. It's a very short drive, or bike ride (or a longer walk) to San Clemente. The pedestrian bridge was open and made it so easy to get to the beach. It's also close to all the shops and restaurants in Dana Point itself. The second best part of the hotel for me was Cynthia. The service she provided while we stayed there was some of the best we've ever had. The rest of the staff was great too, but she bent over backwards to make our stay fantastic!!!! They have a very well kept pool and hot tub and provide pool toys, toys for the beach, and bikes as well. The only complaint I have is that I had to leave. I guess I'll have to go back. read more

Hotel would not refund us back the 1000 dollars we spent to be there for three days. The manager never would talk to us. My parent in past said things were great hear. Unfortunately the manager or owner is the type to take the money and run. They said they had no late cancellations... I told them but I got COVID. Am I suppose to still come and spread this? I really appreciated the amenities and everything included in each room... full kitchen, tv in "living room" and in bedroom, balcony, grill on balcony. So many things! I especially enjoyed being able to use the bikes they had after we had checked out for 3 hours. We could've also enjoyed the pool, gym, pool table, and games after check out too. We got to bike alongside the beach in the morning at no extra charge which made our visit fun. Next time, boogie boarding! Soo 4 stars, not 5 because I got bug bites on my back. Not too many, but just a couple that made me notice and itch. Nothing too crazy. I'm just very particular about cleanliness. Something about the bed sheets felt scratchy and that there was stuff towards the foot end of the bed, but nothing bad enough to where I cringed. In addition, the ring around our shower head kept falling off. We still showered without it, and it still worked perfectly fine. In addition, it's located right across the beach, but right next to the street. We were on the first floor and because it was right next to the street and parking, we could hear cars zooming by. Location was excellent, large family was camping down at the beach. Rooms are a good size and clean. Had a 2x2 room, and it was awesome everyone had plenty of room and was able to come and go as they pleases. Pool and spa were also nice and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful with needs. The negatives I would have is, the parking can be a bit of a challenge, space are tight and full in the evenings. I came here for a weekend getaway rendezvous... simply amazing. Of course when I vacation it must be "resort style"... It has Full kitchen amenities along with a nice size gas BBQ on the balcony. Cable TV in the living room and bed room... The best part for me was the Full size bath Jacuzzi tub... Wow the jets are powerful! Totally can fit two people easily! The resort also offers Free WiFi and Fitness center. The beach is directly across the street from the resort. There is a convenient cross bridge that takes you to Doheny State Beach and the ocean... what a beautiful experience.. My room was a One Bedroom that sleeps 4, with a door that closes off the bedroom from the pull out sofa in the living room. I heard the waves crashing each night... total greatness. Plus Capistrano Surfside Inn is minutes from Dana Point Harbor. For the Timeshare experts (like I am) this is a RED rated resort year round! The resort offers convenient amenities that you don't find at many hotels like free bike rental, free beach equipment like chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards. Nice size Pool and Spa... plus they have a pool table and free movie rentals. Can't get better than that! I totally enjoyed my mini-vacation and look forward to the next opportunity to get away. :) read more

It's small. Clean. Has some small amenities (pool, hot tub, gym, lounge, etc.). Parking is limited. They have coin operated machines for laundry which I thought was kind of lame. We have to pay to do our laundry, take your trash out yourself, etc. (a lot of additional fees that really should be included). The staff is friendly however one of the women at the front desk gives horrible directions; so make sure you have her clarify. The pull out sofa bed is ATROCIOUS! Typically these are not the "comfiest" however it literally felt like I was laying on top of a bunch of bars and springs with nothing in between but a sheet. They offered to bring up a topper to help make it more comfortable which, I thought was a nice attempt to help accomodatexcept they never brought it up. We spoke to the same woman at the front desk TWICE who assured us it would be brought up... We were lucky enough to get an ocean view but according to their packet usually the owners are the only ones who can request/reserve them ahead of time. The nicest part of our room was the bathroom. It's an older hotel and compared to some of the other hotels around here it's moderately priced but at BEST it's sub-par. read more

Great location; right across from the beach, and by the bridge crossing PCH. We had a great unit - a 2 bdrm/2 bath on the 3rd floor (#325), w/ a nice ocean view looking up the coast It was very spacious w/ big balcony, huge jacuzzi tub in the master bath; good-sized fully-stocked kicthen, clean, nice furnishings. The staff was super friendly, and there was pool and Jacuzzi. I also liked that it's a small resort - just 37 rooms. Very family friendly. Liked the free bikes/helmets to borrow, games to check-out, and the lockers of beach chairs, toys, etc to borrow. It's a timeshare, so each unit has a kitchen, dining room, living room w/ sofabed, and deck w/ your own full-sized grill -- nice touch. Only real dislike was the traffic and noise from PCH, but overall it was a great place for a weekend get-away, and since we have family in the area, we'll definitely be back. read more

The location is close to San Clemente (and the San Clemente Pier), Dana Point (and Dana Point Harbor) and San Juan Capistrano, and right across the PCH from the beach, There's plenty to see and do within a half hour (including all the boating options at Dana Point Harbor) and another ton of stuff about an hour to hour and a half away since the location's sort of half way between San Diego and Los Angeles. We did timeshare exchanges, usually with a couple of add-on rental days, here for several years and liked it enough to buy two weeks a few years ago so we could return every year. Note that this place is a timeshare, not a typical hotel. That means things are a bit different. To begin with, you've got room to spread out, with a living room and nicely equipped kitchen in addition to the usual bedroom(s) and bath(s). Even if we want to eat out every night, we save a lot of $$ by eating most breakfasts and lunches at the resort. Like other timeshares we've stayed at, if there's a kitchen item that's not there they can usually get you what you need. There's no daily cleaning service, which I suppose some people will miss, but we appreciate the privacy of not having people come into "our space" each day. For those of us who stay the typical one (or more) weeks, we get towels switched out and trash removed on Tuesdays and a quick clean with towel/trash service on Thursday, but you can always ask for new towels at other times during the week. We find the beds to be harder than we like so we always ask for a foam topper (we have that same issue with our Florida timeshare, but since we drive to that one we bring our own). There's not a lot of extra parking, but we've never been without a spot. The pool and hot tub are small, but there aren't that many units and so they seem sufficient for the size of the resort. Balconies have gas grills, which is pretty cool. The resort hosts a simple Margarita Monday and Wine Wednesday, so if you're going to be there for the week you can meet some other people. Many are owners, (some even going back 30 years!) and others are there on a timeshare exchange or rental. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The place may not be the fanciest resort you've ever stayed at, but has a very homey and friendly vibe and a bunch of nice amenities like free bicycle use, exercise equipment, a pool table, videos, and some beach stuff. There is a laundry room onsite with multiple washers and dryers (not free, but reasonably priced). Unfortunately, the PCH traffic is pretty noisy during the day, but they did a good job of putting in windows and sliders that dampen the sound pretty well, and the traffic dies down a lot in the evening. The internet works well, which is another important point for us since we sometimes have to do a bit of work when we travel. We've heard other people complain about the train that passes by out front next to the PCH, but we actually think that's one of the cool things about this location. The crossover to the beach (Doheny State Beach) is right out in front of the resort. read more

Husband and I stayed one night over memorial day weekend. Used hotelstonight. They didn't have our reservation when we checked in. Night receptionist found us a room, and made us feel lucky we got one at all. The room reeked of urine and the bathroom flooded when the shower was on. Hotel staff was apologetic and copped up to the issues with the room, but management denied there were problems, and denied that we complained during our stay. Both were untrue. They refused us our refund request through hotelstonight 3 times, and then had the gall to post a reply on yelp asking us to "give them the opportunity to address our concerns." Even after that reply, my husband attempted to called, but never heard back. So much for addressing our concerns. They didn't just have one opportunity to address our concerns, they had four. This place is bad news. Plenty of much nicer, much more affordable options in the area. Don't spoil your trip. Stay somewhere else and avoid this nightmare. read more

This place is not too bed but it's our vacation home for a whole week. Sadly, we couldn't get the room ocean view. First arrivals, the room looked very nice and clean. The bed room has a king size bed which most of the other places doesn't have that. The bathroom has a big bathtub which was enjoyable for my daughter. They have two separate bathroom sinks; one is the master bedroom and the other in the bathroom, made it lots easier to get everyone ready for the day. The toilet has his own privacy door which was great. The kitchen wasn't complete on the utensils and they didn't have enough pots and pans to cook with. It's was my least favorite so far. I have to asked one of the housemate to bring me one of the peeler. They charged for high speed internet and parking around $15 per day. But the internet didn't really work well. Not quite happy with it coz so many time we couldn't connected to the internet and they said it was Cox cable issue. We have been stayed for 7 days, I love the grill out side on the balcony. At least I could cooked some steaks for my family. This place was right across from the beach and it's very close to the crossing bridge which was very nice. The employees and manager was very friendly. It could be a 5 stars if they have been checking and fixing the leak under our room and filled up all things that the guests would needed for kitchens tools. The cabinets doors wasn't easy to open, it was all way stuck with a tiny rubber that stick on the cabinet. They also provided the laundry room on the first floor as well. If we are decided to go back, I would love to have an ocean view room. This place was right next to the crossing bridge heading to the beach on the other side of the street. You don't have to walk far to go enjoy your day out. Recommended if you could get a chance to take a vacation. read more

The Best. I just complete a two month trip staying at six different time share apartments and this was the best. It was not the most up market, nor did it have the best facilities, however in all the other resorts there was something that dramatically spoiled the experience. The location was great. It is very near the beach. Yes you have to cross the road via a foot bridge but it took me less than 3 minutes. From my balcony I had an excellent view of the beach and the sea and was able to watch yachts sailing, people cycling and the sun setting. The train goes up and down the beach but is quite fun to watch. The resort is on the road opposite the beach and can be a little noisy but if I closed the balcony door I could not hear anything. There is a small Mexican restaurant next door and shopping less than 5 minutes' drive away. The room was excellent. Clean, bright and roomy. Big kitchen, plenty of counter space and a good cooker. The rooms had obviously been recently updated and while it had been not been done with the most expensive furniture, it was good, clean and tasteful. Modern good sized flat screen TVs and even a grill on the balcony. The staff were attentive, they did what they said they would in a timely manner and were always friendly. They also rent out bicycles on the premises which was cool. A simple fun thing I did was to cycle along the beach and visit Dana Point Marina, about 15 minutes on a bike. If you have not been there, Dana Point is a very nice place to hand out. The internet was excellent and free, I was getting about 5-7MBs, good internet is a big deal to me. I simply can't think of anything to criticize about the place. I'll definitely stay there again. read more

Poor customer service from particulary Patricia scolding my daughter, our room was not up to par, we had stains in the carpet, mold in the shower, a cracked toilet with pee stains all and a view of dirt hill. Not rating the employees this place is at best a 3 star because of the location but with the employees the stars go down. We exchanged our ocean front view in the virgin islands to get a dirt hill view. I complained to 3 different front desk employees and each had their own reason why we didnt get an ocean view when there plenty of vacant rooms we got the corner room on the 3rd floor we are definitely not happy with the help here. my family and I hit a bang for you buck here, we lucked out and got this 1 bedroom condo for $100 per night, we stayed on room 212 and although it was not an ocean view we felt like it was a great deal for what we got. VERY clean granite countertops throughout comfortable king bed sofa fold out bed - no complaints from my 6 year old FULL kitchen stocked with everything but food HUGE jacuzzi jetted tub I saw some pictures of decor in different units and that depends on who owns it thankfully 212 was decorated to my taste, so it felt like home :) however, here are the cons 1. our room key messed up daily 2. ocean across the street is inconvenient because you have you truck it UP stairs to cross over the road and train tracks and if your hands are full plus with kids it can be a pain 3. the beach SUCKED because it was so rocky of you don't have water shoes it's a pointless beach and dangerous for kids if they get knocked over by the waves they will get hurt by the rocks 3 stars because of the cons listed but if all you need is a nice place to stay only ask for room 212. read more

Lucked out and got an ocean view room also! Only thing that sucks is it's right on the PCH and there's a railroad track running a train by almost every 15 minutes. If I could I would give it no stars. This place was a rip off. It advertises itself as close to the beach.. it didn't say anything about having to walk 15 minutes up and down a bunch of stairs, that was very hard on my older parents. Not to mention NEXT TO A TRAIN TRACK that was constantly running, and next to a 6 lane highway. LOUD. Also, NOTHING WAS OPEN OR WORKING. The gym was closed, oh and they only had one bathroom, so they had to make the bathroom they had into a co-ed bathroom. The snack bar at the pool was closed, which no one told us. The elevator worked sporadically, our hot tub (in our room) was broken, couldn't get it to turn off. Basically, a bunch of stuff that needed to be worked on. Couldn't connect to internet. We were lucky enough to have the chance to stay here when some friends were not able to use their time share and have already told them that we would JUMP at the chance to stay again if they dont! Amazing location with the foot bridge to the beach literally at the front door! Nice room with a stunning view. Well equipped with comfy furniture and all the needed kitchen items. I've been coming to this resort for 15 years. There is so much more to it than it's great location; though the location is spectacular. It's more like a home away from home. Everyone, and I mean everyone that works here goes way out of their way to make sure you're vacation is excellant. They get it. They understand that vacations are important. I've stayed at dozens of resorts where everything costs extra; not here. Bikes, movies, pool table , beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, games, all free. For the guy that said it's not a Starwood, that's correct, and Starwood is not Marriot, so what genious. This place is special; you just don't get it. read more

We have stayed here twice and will continue to make this our place to stay in Dana Point. They are right across the street from the beach, fairly priced, clean, and have many amenities that make for a fun trip! We have always had an ocean view room! Luck of the draw, but we are glad for it. It's important that our unit is clean, and it always is. We have a young daughter who needs quiet neighbors, which we always have. Some units have not been renovated yet, however they are still comfortable and we enjoy our stay in the older rooms too. The renovated rooms are great though! My husband and I enjoy borrowing the beach cruisers and riding down the Pacific Coast and by the beach. It's just an all around good place for our family to stay! read more
