I had a great experience at Laguna Cliffs Marriott from the time I checked in until the time I checked out. The hotel room was clean and I had a partial ocean view from my room. The hotel is located close to restaurants within walking distance, Doheny State beach, and a short drive to shops at the Harbor as well as a hiking trail, Hilltop Conservation Park, near the Chart House (which I do not recommend eating at the Chart House). On occasion I had questions and asked the hotel staff, whether it was the valet attendants, bartenders, the Spa or the gift shop personnel, all of them were able to answer my questions. Unlike some hotels that may direct you to the front desk or elsewhere for answers. Overall the property was clean. I enjoyed relaxing on the deck just outside of the restaurant on the main level. However, I was disappointed that the front lawn was under construction. That's the view you see from the deck. I didn't see notification of construction when I booked my reservation. It would've been nice to have had a heads-up before booking.

Laguna Cliffs Marriott is a convenient location if you're visiting the area to see a show across the way at the beach. It has friendly staff and the location is probably the best in the area for beach access.

Loved it here. I only stayed for 1 night lol. View was immaculate. I got short ribs Benedict breakfast room service. It was SOOOOOO good. LOL

Really surprised with how much we enjoyed our stay. Pictures do not do this place justice the views and the grounds are expansive and beautiful. Sunsets are stunning and we grabbed some food and drinks at OverVue restaurant one night under the moonlight it was magical. Bed was comfy, room was immaculate, shower is ginormous, and the balcony with partial pool and ocean view was a great touch. Only stayed a single night but really enjoyed ourselves. Staff extremely friendly, would love to come back with the kids some time soon

I was here for two nights for a business meeting and we had a fantastic time! The rooms were cleaning and spacious. The meeting rooms were quiet and tech support was available to help when we needed. The staff was super friendly and always helpful. In addition, the decor and views were spectacular. I would love to attend another meeting here - it was great!

This is a really nice, beautiful property. From check in to check out, the staff was very kind and efficient. There for a conference, the meeting facilities were on the lobby level and easy to access. The meeting space was clean and spacious. The rooms were nicely appointed. Having arrived before the official check in time, I was appreciative that they got me in to a room that was open. While it wouldn't have been the room I would've had, I was just grateful to take whatever they had. It ended up being a double room with no balcony but overlooking the ocean. The screens on the window however obscured the views. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was fine but the setup with the glass in the shower wasn't ideal as water sprayed around it getting the floor wet. Dining here was a little challenging. The food from the conference breakfast buffet, to the food in the bar area (fish tacos), to the food on the room service menu (classic burger and salmon Caesar salad) had no seasoning. There wasn't a speck of pepper to be seen on any of the food aside from the fries. Also, there was clearly an issue with ordering room service from the app as both times my order was wrong. The staff were great and got my order rectified quickly both times and promised a discount for the error and delay. All in all, this place is very nice and there are heated pools and great views. I would recommend eating off property however.

This is a beautiful hotel ! Great location and grounds and very nice. Pool is a bit small and jacuzzi was not ok. The jets were not so good. As far as the service at check in we received great fast service. Girl was very nice! Room was nice and clean however; the shower was clogged and water had a very slow drain. Nice balcony to enjoy the partial ocean view. Bed was horrible which is why I'm giving this hotel 3 stars. I left feeling achy and to me the bed is everything! I wouldn't stay here again due to this.

My partner and I stayed here a few days ago, and we were completely blown away, by everything and everyone. The staff were truly something special. I don't think I've ever been so in awe of so many people at once. From Sandy and Drew to the front desk team, just wow. I also had the pleasure of chatting briefly with Mayu, who shared a bit about her journey working at the hotel. It was so refreshing to meet someone who genuinely loves what they do. She was incredibly sweet. I'm wishing her all the best! The rooms were spotless and beautifully designed, and the views? Absolutely breathtaking. The hotel itself has such a unique charm. it felt like a little hidden gem. The food was almost too pretty to eat... almost! (Yes, we definitely ate it.) Parking was a breeze with both a lot and valet service available. We can't wait to come back for a real staycation!

My friend was staying at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott on a business trip and asked me to come join her over the weekend. It was a no brainer, so I packed up my dog, yoga mat, a cooler with my favorite snacks, a couple of books and I was set. Before I got the hotel, I researched yoga studios, pilates classes, markets and restaurants - everything I needed was within a 20 minute walk. Once I got to the hotel on Thursday, I didn't use my car all weekend, walked everywhere logging about 7-8 miles a day. Since November, I've been working 50+ hours a week/weekends. I'm burning out, so I didn't want to do anything over the weekend other than to take care of myself. I worked Friday morning from underneath a tree at Lantern Bay Park until my workday was over - it was heaven. I didn't use any of the hotel amenities - no gym, no spa, no pool, didn't have any meals there as there's so much close to the hotel within walking distance. I basically used the hotel to sleep and get ice. The staff I encountered were nice, helpful, attentive and they kept the hotel looking clean and nice. The property itself is ok - I feel the rooms are small. It's undergoing extensive renovations but thankfully it didn't interrupt my much-needed staycation. What I loved the most about the Laguna Cliffs Marriott is the location. It sits on a bluff overlooking Dana Point Harbor with easy access via staircase from Lantern Bay Park to the bottom of Dana Point Harbor Drive just cross the street you're there - it's also a short walk Doheny State Beach. I enjoyed my time at the Marriott because I tailored it to what I needed which was a calm, restful and relaxing weekend. I took pilates and yoga classes, ate good food, walked everywhere, played with my dog at the park, wrote, got caught up on my reading, and took naps which I never do when I'm home. I definitely would come back again and I would love making coming here a yearly tradition over Super Bowl weekend.

What a great spot. We decided to have an early dinner at the Overview Lounge at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. We were greeted by the Valet and proceeded into the lounge. Madison was our amazing server and she was kind, professional and efficient. We started with margaritas and guacamole with chips. I ordered a Cesar salad and for our entrees we both had the grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos. The food was very good and we plan to go back and try the 5 p.m. evening menu. We were there at 3:30 p.m. after a wonderful walk at the Dana Point Harbor. The view, ambiance and service were stellar. Highly recommended.

Okay Marriott- go off We stayed here for a mini-moon after our snowy winter wedding last weekend. I know Laguna Cliffs doesn't control the weather, but they could have fooled me. The sun was out our entire stay, the views of the ocean were sparkling and we were so relaxed and happy we added one more night because we didn't want to leave. The service was impeccable. The food is better than your average hotel experience and the drinks were delicious. It's perfectly situated for adventure lovers. We walked to the harbor and had such a fun time whale watching and snacking our way through every restaurant. Our needs and wants were met at every turn. Thank you specifically to Dylan, Michael, Tory and Jacky for making this one of the best times of our life.

Great stay... super cute room, helpful staff. Where you NEED to go if staying here is the LANTERN's EDGE Restaurant!! Like, go now! Such great service, drinks, decor and food! We are lucky enough to be locals for 1/2 the year so we can't wait to go back!

We came back after over 10 years and things have definitely changed. The resort went through a remodel and it is much better than before. Also, the service was much improved as was the responsiveness of the staff. Came for a 3 night stay, enjoyed the views, the pool and the overall environment. It was a very relaxing few days and we will definitely be coming back.

Do they still have Sunday brunch buffet?

    Is this hotel dog friendly?

Yes. There's a fee each night of your stay + daily cleaning fee.

Are there refrigerators in the rooms? Microwaves?

There was a small refrigerator in the room but it was LOCKED so we couldn't use it. I think this may become a "mini bar" but it was empty. No microwave but there is a Nespresso machine.

Is this hotel still open? The last review was almost 5 months ago and the website doesn't show any available dates, ever.

    IT STILL CLOSED.

Does this hotel allow emotional support animals?

We only allow service animals that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, under ADA guidelines animals that provide comfort or emotional support does not qualify as service animals.

    Has the rooms been updated?

We recently completed a full guestroom enhancement, so yes, our guestrooms have been updated.

Are all the renovations and construction finished?

No, they haven't fully renovated all the rooms.

    Good for New Year's Eve?

Yes, we have a great 4 course menu at our Vue restaurant and then at 9:00pm we have a DJ at OverVue lounge and it is full of people dancing, eating and drinking. If you are looking for a good time, I would definitely recommend joining us. The cover… Read more

Good for Mother's Day buffet brunch?

Yes Franci. We have a great Mother's Day brunch that includes live music, outdoor ocean-view seating, a rose for every mom and a photographer will be available for family photos. The menu is great!

Out of the over a dozen employees I encountered during my stay, only two of them actually did it. -A photo session is supposed to be included with the resort fee. I asked about booking one for the following day and they said they needed a minimum of 24 hours notice. Also, they had me, the guest, reach out to the on-site photographers. For a hotel of this caliber, they should be doing that for the guest. Furthermore, they should be scheduling it for you before you even get to the property to make things easier for the guest. Especially a platinum member. . TLDR: Nice rooms and location, but not up to luxury standards for the price, and the service has really gone downhill and honestly is not even considered to be up to par for luxury hospitality.

Leslie also informed us of the complimentary bikes to use if we wanted to explore the town and how we were just in time to enjoy the complimentary wine and cheese from 4-5:30 in the common area. We grabbed our free bubbly, the vanilla bath salts for my wife to enjoy later, and proceeded to enjoy the cheese and assorted treats on the outdoor patio overlooking Dana Point. No better way to unwind! Pro tip: NEVER EVER SKIP THE FRESH BAKED COOKIES! The property is the perfect size to remain quaint like a bed and breakfast but big enough that you don't feel obligated to know each person coming and going. I would admit being in our mid 40's, we were on the younger side of guests during our stay, but this was a welcome surprise for us as we were looking for a quiet getaway for the evening for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The room was 212 which is an ADA accessible room but this I believe was provided at the special request of having a bathtub for my wife who values her baths on her getaways! The room faces the parking lot but this is a small sacrifice for what the true payoff was which was the special request... The giant jacuzzi tub which did not disappoint. It was large enough to fit two adults (not that we tried or anything *wink wink). The jets worked great and my wife raved about them. The room came with luxurious robes and slippers and all bath products were either local or unique brand. The room also came with a fireplace that was gas which started with the flip of a light switch. Another beautiful touch. It is always hard to find a bed that is comfortable enough while away from home as we are spoiled by our sleep number at home but this bed did the trick (which most chain or corporate hotels cannot accomplish!). The linens were soft and the room came with extra pillows and blankets on hand without having to ask for more. The complementary breakfast buffet in the morning was not your standard spread. It felt more refined and focused on the details. It was not your scrambled eggs from powder. It was two sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. It wasn't generic underripe fruit, it was perfectly ripe fruit with an assortment of sides. My wife raved about the yogurt and toppings as did I about the oatmeal and toppings. Overall this could not have been a better short 1 night getaway for my wife and I to enjoy away from the hectic everyday life. It truly felt like we slowed down time and the blue lantern Inn accomplished all we needed in having a successful start to our anniversary celebrations.

In February I booked a stay here through Expedia, and while the initial check-in was pleasant, the…read moreexperience went downhill the moment I saw the room. It felt more like an underground bunker than a hotel room; the window looked out onto a brick wall, the space was tiny and dated, and the lighting was nearly non-existent. Between the noise level and a persistent unpleasant odor, the environment felt completely untenable. I didn't even unpack, I knew immediately I couldn't stay there. What is most upsetting, however, is the lack of integrity regarding my refund. I left that same evening after speaking with the staff. The manager told me the next morning that a refund would be issued through Expedia. However, when Expedia called to verify, the hotel denied the request. Being told one thing to my face and another to the booking agent is incredibly dishonest. I ended up paying for two hotels and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere.

Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach was a solid Christmas getaway and honestly one of the prettiest…read moreproperties we've stayed at in Orange County. My girlfriend and I came down from the 24th to the 27th for a little holiday getaway and the vibe was exactly what we were looking for. Peaceful, polished, and very "treat yourself." First off the staff here deserves real credit. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely warm and friendly, not just going through the motions. Special shoutout to Lori at check in, she was amazing, super welcoming, and surprised us with a suite upgrade that instantly set the tone for the whole trip. Little touches like that go a long way and made it feel like an actual special occasion. The property itself is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate, the ocean views are a vibe, and everything feels upscale without being stiff or pretentious. It's the kind of place where you can slow down, take your time, and actually enjoy being there instead of constantly rushing around. A couple things kept it from being 5 stars though. The hot water in our room took forever to heat up. Not the end of the world, but when you're paying Waldorf prices you expect the shower to be easy and instant. Also room service took a really long time. I'm not sure if it was just the holiday rush or if that's normal, but it was noticeable enough to mention. Overall we still had a great stay and I'd come back. Just go in knowing this is a true luxury pricing situation. The experience is top tier and so are the costs. Your wallet is definitely gonna feel it but if you want a special getaway with an incredible setting and standout service, this place delivers.

I was genuinely looking forward to treating my wife to a relaxing weekend at the Waldorf. For a…read moreproperty that regularly charges $1,000+ per night, we expected a level of peace, consistency, and attention to detail that matches the price point. To be fair, many parts of the stay were great, bellhop, check-in, and valet were all excellent. Unfortunately, everything else was overshadowed by issues that made the stay feel far from "luxury." First, there was a wedding and reception taking place during our stay, which would normally be fine. But the noise level was completely out of control. A man was singing off-key for hours, and the music was so loud that it drowned out the sunset on our final night... something we were specifically excited for. Instead of tranquility, we were met with a full-blown concert we never signed up for. When I reached out to the front desk on 11/23 to address the noise, I was made to feel like I was the only guest with concerns. That wasn't true at all; a quick look at Yelp shows multiple guests complaining about the exact same issue that weekend. There were other guests we tried to enjoy the sunset with and they were appalled as well. It's disappointing to feel dismissed rather than acknowledged. To make matters worse, we were charged pet cleaning and hospitality fees despite traveling with a service animal. We cleaned up after ourselves and our animal, and the charge felt careless and inappropriate. For a hotel that prides itself on five-star hospitality, this was a surprising and unnecessary frustration. We were also charged for a refrigerator which by the way, we sent back because we actually requested for a microwave. Lastly, even the jacuzzi... which should be a quiet, relaxing space, was anything but. Kids were splashing and throwing cups of water around while we tried to unwind. I understand family-friendly spaces, but at a resort of this caliber, there should be better supervision or clearer separation between relaxation areas and play areas. Overall, I expected a calm, restorative experience, and instead found myself dealing with noise, incorrect charges, and a lack of acknowledgment when raising concerns. For the price and reputation, the Waldorf missed the mark in ways I didn't anticipate.
