Items Selected: Americano…read moreBay Biscuit Mil Hojas Dulce de Leche Alfajores Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting Marble Plum Cake with Pears Dark Chocolate and Apple Cake Fancied by locals and tourists alike as one of the best bakeries and breakfast nooks in all of Valencia it was on the first Sunday of a trip to Eastern Spain that a stop was made at Dulce de Leche on Carrer de Jesús, both the scene and the cuisine living up to its praise with service that, despite language barriers, goes above and beyond what is expected to assure each guest a great experience. The more sizable of two locations, another visited just 27-hours later in the city's Ruzafa area far more crowded and loud, guests visiting Dulce de Leche Jesus at any time of day will likely find the café busy and after waiting in a small queue the largest issue is one of deciding what *not* to order from a collection of more than fifty choices, made to order coffee the only things delaying guests from collecting their goods and eating immediately with numbered cards handed out along with an invitation to take a seat as items are plated. Populated with about 90% locals, many of them clearly regulars based on the manner in which they were greeted by staff, it was on the far side of a wooden picnic table that a seat was taken followed by perhaps five minutes wait as a smooth Americano was prepared, the radio overhead American and largely ignorable with the setting shabby-chic and relaxing, a total of six items soon to arrive including a flaky Argentinean "Bay Biscuit" provided complimentary as the young lady at the register had difficulty describing what was essentially laminated dough crusted in Sugar with a savory linger that seemed to be from creamy White Cheese as opposed to Buttermilk. Offering savories in addition to the sweets, the former not really of much interest despite the fact that all of it looked quite nice, Breakfast progressed with two small Alfajores that outperformed those Stateside thanks to both the quality of the Caramel and unsweetened Coconut used for balance, the freshly-made Mil Hojas also quite successful with the Pastry layers still flaky and crisp with the thick Dulce de Leche creating no sog. Almost overwhelming in terms of Cake choices, the American practice of only offering a select-few by the slice completely the opposite as staff was seen cutting large wedges of more than a dozen choices for patrons as early as 08h15, those looking for a truly remarkable Carrot Cake are encouraged to give Dulce de Leche a chance as the traditional sweetness of Pineapple is replaced by bold spicing which allows both Walnuts and grated Vegetables to shine beneath light icing, both the Dark Chocolate with Apple and Marble Plum Cake with Pears eating like "Ooey Gooey" Butter Cake with rich Streusel topping atop a smooth Fruit base.

Personally I like their carrot cake and any cake that has dulce de leche in it (for someone who has never tried dulce de leche, it is similar to caramel but it is much richer!). In the morning they offer a good deal for breakfast set (2 Euros for a cup of coffee and a piece of toast or bread or croissant!!!). Also they offer lunch menu for 6 Euros. For their drink menu, they have the typical ones that Spain offers and also different kinds of fruit and vegetable juice. For whoever has lactose intolerance, you can ask for lactose-free milk in your coffee! Noted that during las Fallas they offered churros con dulce de leche which I almost died from overconsumption of their churroses.

I knew of the existence of this bakery because I picked up one of their business cards at Antique…read moreCafé. However back in those days it was more of a shop and never seemed to be open so I dismissed it. That was until I saw a mate of mine review it on Yelp! I knew I had to go ASAP! When faced with good and bad news it's always best to start with the bad and finish off on a high. So here goes: Bad news: * Step away from the Chai Latte unless what you expect is a very mildly spiced mug of hot sweet milk! Nasty stuff! It may have just been that on day that it was particularly dreadful but it has scarred me for life and I don't have the courage to re-order it there. What scared me even more is that we asked for the tea to be extra strong so if that was the strong stuff I don't want to imagine would it would be like normally. Arghh! * The girl who has always served me has been nice enough but not particularly energetic nor swift. Good news: * Probably one of the best Red Velvet Cakes I've ever had in Valencia; moist and most importantly not too sweet. * A selection of large cookies for just 1€; bargain! * An interesting choice of milkshakes, which I have yet to try but am looking forward to in the near future.

So, it is no doubt that when you mention about cupcakes, you automatically think about American cupcakes that have become a trend especially in many cities of the U.S. such as New York and Washington D.C. Besides in the US. cupcakes have gained some popularity in different countries despite its ups and downs. In Spain, it is not common to find American style cupcakes. Many of them that are referred to cupcakes in Spain are more like muffins. Some cupcakes here are really dry and have strange frosting. But this place is quite good! Really! Its cakes including cupcakes are moist, tasty and have yummy frosting. The frosting is like what I had in the US. - buttery and not too sweet. The interior of the shop is bright and cozy. It is not sophistically decorated, rather it's simple and cute. There are not many tables but with enough space to relax and chill. There are also some shelfs that sell products related to cupcakes like tools and decoration papers. This shop makes both normal cakes that you can order it by piece and cupcakes. My favorite one is red velvet. It's very moist and tasty. Its carrot cake is very good too. I just love them both! They also have a very good selection of tea. The tea is served in a nice teapot with a cup that come as a set. My favorite one is white tea with mango and papaya. However, my friend did mention that their chai tea is not very good (too light flavor). Service was friendly but a bit slow. Price was affordable. Highly recommended!
