This was our go to place for 15 yrs.

We come to Cape May every year at this time but our normal accommodation was not available. So we decided to try the Sea Mist as it has a great location and is a much photographed building. That turned out to be a horrible mistake. Upon arriving we went to park in the rear parking lot of the building. The lot was a sheet of ice. My wife took a nasty fall trying to get out of the car and hurt her back and bloodied her arm. Not a good start to the stay. And nothing was done while we were there to de-ice the parking lot. Forced us to park on the street. That night after dinner we looked forward to sitting in front of the gas fireplace in the living room of our unit. The remote didn't work so we manually started the fireplace. We nodded off to sleep for several hours and were awakened by the smoke detector going off. This was about 1:30 am. We got the detector turned off but shortly thereafter 4 members of the Cape May Fire Department arrived along with a rep from the Gas Company. Turns out carbon monoxide from the gas fireplace set off the detector. The fireplace was not vented to the outside, so the carbon monoxide all came into the living room. The Gas Co rep said this fireplace venting setup is illegal in most states, but not New Jersey. Thank goodness the detector went off or the result could have been tragic. As it was my wife and I had headaches the next day from the carbon monoxide. And the Gas Co rep also found a gas leak in the furnace, which he repaired. He shut off the gas fireplace and wrote up a service order for the owner to repair it. And finally, the smoke detector in the building lobby went off, probably in need of a new battery. We notified the group managing the unit but nothing was done while we were there. Fortunately we couldn't hear the detector in our apartment. So this was easily our worst visit to Cape May and we were not offered any amount of reimbursement for the issues that we experienced. Needless to say we will never consider staying at the Sea Mist again.

The apartments seem to be soundproof as well. Only on occasion do I hear music, but it's low and muffled. The neighbors in my building are friendly. I know there are a few buildings with some riffraff but if you avoid those buildings you will be happy. I am giving it 4 stars only because of the riffraff. They live around the pool area so to use the pool you have to be around them. Also because only a few buildings have a laundromat - it would be nice if there was one in every building.

Terrible management, shoddy maintenance, and false pretenses…read more The short version - some units were renovated, others are outdated, in shambles and falling apart. The state of disrepair of some units does not stop them from raising the rent on ALL apartments for new tenants. They avoid making improvements, they do not inspect, repair, and/or clean units when one tenant leaves and another comes in. They throw up a quick coat of paint (or ask you to paint) and swap out the cheap carpeting. Here are a few things to consider, Windows and sliding doors need replacing. Many of them leak which has lead to black mold in some apartments (still not been remediated). Some have huge gaps in them that make it impossible to heat or cool the apartment, not to mention making them useless for securing the apartment. They advertise the pool as an amenity but it has not been open in many years. It's either damaged or they are too cheap to pay the insurance to keep it open. Half of the machines in the laundry area do not work at any given time or may potentially damage clothing. One dryer even started a small fire in the last few years. The "property manager" seldom answers the phone during business hours. Email is best. Additionally, when attempting to rectify some of the issues in-unit, the "property manager" does everything she can to avoid helping. "Maintenance supervisor" has no idea what he is doing and for the most part, any professional work done is contracted out BUT not before he jacks it up by ordering the wrong part(s) for the job. Oh, and to save your sanity - there are no recycling dumpsters on-site, at all, so don't look for them if you're told they exist. I did have wonderful neighbors though! There are some other redeeming qualities but the bad far outweighs the good. Not worth even mentioning.

We have been guests…read moreat The Tides for several years and always found the rentals to be well kept, a positive reflection of the individual owners of the condominium units. This was not at all the case on our most recent visit. Upon entry to the room we were greeted by a very strong musty odor, and stained wall-to-wall carpeting. We immediately told our children they were not to walk barefoot through the unit, not knowing what they might be stepping on. The general condition of the apartment was poor. Walls, doors and switches (especially in the bathroom) were filthy. At best the bathroom might compare to one you might find in a cheap motel. There was pubic hair and other matter on the floor. My wife and I cleaned the bathroom floor ourselves with supplies we had to purchase at the local grocery store. We also purchased plug-in air fresheners in an attempt to mask the odor of the unit. It's hard to believe this disaster of living quarters could be in such close proximity to the beautiful beaches of Cape May. We used the room only when we had to, avoiding it morning through night. In summary, the condition of room 403 is the equivalent of a fraternity house. The owner obviously doesn't care about her guests, rather collecting a $3,000 check from weekly renters without being bothered. Now for The Tides. A staff member admitted the room was "disgusting", but there is nothing they can do about it other than passing the information along to the owner. They do however advertise the room on their website, so I am challenging The Tides to do the right thing. In addition to the photos posted on their website, I would like to see the photos I took for this Yelp review added to the website for room 403. In all fairness, vacationers who have saved several thousand dollars to visit beautiful Cape May should know what they are spending their money on and not be deceived. In my opinion, if The Tides doesn't step up and let potential guests know the true condition of their rooms, they are just as unethical as the owner of room 403.

POSITIVE: The Unit was lovely, well furnished, clean and completely adequate for our purposes. It was one block from the beach, well within walking distance. The beach was gorgeous. The condo complex had a lovely pool, as well as laundry facilities, deck with BBQ and parking for one car. Our neighbors were friendly. NEGATIVE: INTERNET. The ad said "high speed WIFI access available". I was counting on that, since I had to download some large files for work. yes it was a vacation, but I still had to do some work, like so many people these days. We also like watching Netflix in the evenings and I had my Apple TV with me. Not only was there no high speed Internet, there was NO INTERNET AT ALLl, at least not within the Unit. When I called to complain, I was told that the individual units don't have internet, only the condo complex has a free WiFi, but it doesn't work very well. Apparently it's cable and it's overloaded. I was able to get some access outside of the Unit, but it was painfully slow, barely enough to get e-mail, no streaming or downloading of anything. it also constantly dropped out. When I called the realtor, they told me that the small print says that they never guarantee wifi access. I feel that this is FALSE ADVERTISING. Internet access is important enough these days, that the consumer should be warned, if there is a problem with access. I finally managed to get around the problem by making a WiFi hotspot via cellular data with my iPad, but I had to purchase extra data to do so. I was able to download my files, but not to stream, since that would have been extremely expensive. So in SUMMARY: If you don't need internet access, then this is a great option and I would give it 5 Stars. If you need internet access and you're not willing to pay premium rates for it, then stay away (1 star)

This is by far the nicest property in the Wildwoods, and it completely lives up to its name. I'm…read morenot sure how the developers managed to finagle the township to allow them to build such a grand monstrosity -- you can see The Grand all the way from Cape May -- but it most certainly is beautiful and very, very classy. I would almost dub it the South Beach or East Hamptons property of the Wildwoods, because it's going to cost you about the same amount to rent anything with an ocean view here. No expense was spared building The Grand. Every residence is palatial; Viking appliances, crown moulding in every room, beautiful hardwood floors, gorgeous decks and balconies -- it's probably nicer than your own home. They also have one of the only infinity pools I know of north of Florida, with the pool's eastern edge ending right where the ocean horizon begins. The developers also managed to purchase rights to the beach behind the property. You can now enjoy having their concierge service put out your chairs and umbrellas, take your stuff down to their private beach, and be served food and drink all day long via waiter service -- including alcohol. You may ask yourself, "how can they possibly serve alcohol on the beach in a dry town like Wildwood Crest?" Well, that's because The Grand sits just a few inches south of the Wildwood Crest border. It's technically in Diamond Beach. So let the good times flow, because those few inches make all the difference. The Grand is not without its few flaws. Most notably is the size of the pool. Compared to pools at other resorts of this size, it's tiny. And there's a limited number of chairs to lay out on. But that doesn't seem to be much of a problem because the beach is where the action is at. I personally cannot justify spending the kind of money that The Grand commands. I've dropped a lot of coin staying at similar places like Seapointe Village, Coastal Colors, and Ocean Towers, where your money will go a little further if you're on a budget. But if you have deep pockets and want to spend your money on the very best, do Wildwood in style and rent at The Grand.
