Terrible management, shoddy maintenance, and false pretenses…read more The short version - some units were renovated, others are outdated, in shambles and falling apart. The state of disrepair of some units does not stop them from raising the rent on ALL apartments for new tenants. They avoid making improvements, they do not inspect, repair, and/or clean units when one tenant leaves and another comes in. They throw up a quick coat of paint (or ask you to paint) and swap out the cheap carpeting. Here are a few things to consider, Windows and sliding doors need replacing. Many of them leak which has lead to black mold in some apartments (still not been remediated). Some have huge gaps in them that make it impossible to heat or cool the apartment, not to mention making them useless for securing the apartment. They advertise the pool as an amenity but it has not been open in many years. It's either damaged or they are too cheap to pay the insurance to keep it open. Half of the machines in the laundry area do not work at any given time or may potentially damage clothing. One dryer even started a small fire in the last few years. The "property manager" seldom answers the phone during business hours. Email is best. Additionally, when attempting to rectify some of the issues in-unit, the "property manager" does everything she can to avoid helping. "Maintenance supervisor" has no idea what he is doing and for the most part, any professional work done is contracted out BUT not before he jacks it up by ordering the wrong part(s) for the job. Oh, and to save your sanity - there are no recycling dumpsters on-site, at all, so don't look for them if you're told they exist. I did have wonderful neighbors though! There are some other redeeming qualities but the bad far outweighs the good. Not worth even mentioning.

The apartment sizes are really good for the rent…read more They keep everything in working order and when something needs to be fixed, one of the three maintenance guys are there to fix it in a reasonable amount of time. The apartments seem to be soundproof as well. Only on occasion do I hear music, but it's low and muffled. The neighbors in my building are friendly. I know there are a few buildings with some riffraff but if you avoid those buildings you will be happy. I am giving it 4 stars only because of the riffraff. They live around the pool area so to use the pool you have to be around them. Also because only a few buildings have a laundromat - it would be nice if there was one in every building.

My family and I were guests at The Tides, room 403 from 8/20/22 thru 8/27/22. We have been guests…read moreat The Tides for several years and always found the rentals to be well kept, a positive reflection of the individual owners of the condominium units. This was not at all the case on our most recent visit. Upon entry to the room we were greeted by a very strong musty odor, and stained wall-to-wall carpeting. We immediately told our children they were not to walk barefoot through the unit, not knowing what they might be stepping on. The general condition of the apartment was poor. Walls, doors and switches (especially in the bathroom) were filthy. At best the bathroom might compare to one you might find in a cheap motel. There was pubic hair and other matter on the floor. My wife and I cleaned the bathroom floor ourselves with supplies we had to purchase at the local grocery store. We also purchased plug-in air fresheners in an attempt to mask the odor of the unit. It's hard to believe this disaster of living quarters could be in such close proximity to the beautiful beaches of Cape May. We used the room only when we had to, avoiding it morning through night. In summary, the condition of room 403 is the equivalent of a fraternity house. The owner obviously doesn't care about her guests, rather collecting a $3,000 check from weekly renters without being bothered. Now for The Tides. A staff member admitted the room was "disgusting", but there is nothing they can do about it other than passing the information along to the owner. They do however advertise the room on their website, so I am challenging The Tides to do the right thing. In addition to the photos posted on their website, I would like to see the photos I took for this Yelp review added to the website for room 403. In all fairness, vacationers who have saved several thousand dollars to visit beautiful Cape May should know what they are spending their money on and not be deceived. In my opinion, if The Tides doesn't step up and let potential guests know the true condition of their rooms, they are just as unethical as the owner of room 403.

Shortly after arriving, we realized the place was probably not the best for kids. It was clearly decorated by someone who watched too much HGTV (as evident by the 80" magazines left in the parlor) and filled with personal pictures and knick knacks throughout the house (think of staying at your grandmothers). After leaving (and cleaning thoroughly), the owners sent a letter making a number of over inflated and erroneous claims against us. (*side note- 30 years of going to Cape May, never a single complaint against us). All Jersey Cape Realty did was simply forward the owners information to us. They stepped out of the situation and never offered to provide any assistance in resolving the problems- not even a solid comment in the email-- just a simple "copy and paste"!. I work in real estate in Maryland. It is common in cases like this for me to personally go to the property, perform my own inspections, and try to help mediate. However, working in real estate I know when a brokerage firm is nothing more than a nameplate- they run at the first sign of trouble and leave the "worker bees" alone to fight it out. I was terribly disappointing in the lack of service. With groups like this- it is apparent why technology it taking over this industry and boutique firms are going by the wayside. The service we hoped for never appeared and our memories are now tainted.

We had 6 adults and 2 toddlers in our group, and the layout provided enough room to keep the kids' mess in one room, while adults could visit in a quieter, neater space. I wish there was outside space for kids to run, but the beach is there for that. Many of the windows were missing screens. I thought we were asked to do a ridiculous amount of cleanup. I'm told that's common along the Atlantic shore. Most of my VRBO experience has been in the south, Midwest, and west, and all we've been asked to do is gather garbage and start the dishwasher, and of course remove whatever we brought in. Much of the departure work revolved around gathering, counting, and bagging the rented linen (also something I've never had to do before). Some of the information in the book needs to be updated--for example, the garbage and recycling bins were not labeled as described in the book--we've not sure that we were using the correct bins. On our first night we discovered that one of the spindles on the second floor landing banister was broken--it had been pushed back together so that it looked OK, but when leaned on by one of our toddlers came apart, creating a dangerous situation. We tied ribbons between the adjacent spindles so that our toddlers didn't fall through. We didn't call Desatnick Real Estate because we were in Cape May for 3 days and we didn't want to spend time waiting for repair people.
