Lovely one screen independent cinema located in Cape Cod. The building looks like an old church on the outside. The concessions were very affordable (drink and large popcorn for $11) and the popcorn was delicious. The seats were comfortable and the actual theatre was stunning with a gorgeous original mural displayed across the entire ceiling. The mural created a dreamy vibe. Very happy to have experienced watching a movie here. read more

We support the Cape Cinema. It's going to quite a few movies and are going to one this week. The seats aren't super comfortable and they're not staggered so unfortunately, when you sit behind someone you see the back of their head, especially if they're tall. They need to rework the seats so that their staggered.. Also, the addition of the new projector will immeasurably help with the quality of the film presentation. We do like to go to some of the screenings when actors or directors discuss the making of the film. We have been involved with the industry for decades. Looking forward to. Awesome cinema in Dennis off of 6A. Watched the 50th anniversary of Jaws there in July. It is a cinema from 1930 and has one theater that is all volunteer and a nonprofit. Awesome volunteers and really cool place. The popcorn is fantastic and they serve beer and wine as well as candy. Not a bad seat in the house. read more

I have been coming to Cape Cod for over 20 years and I'm so disappointed I never knew about this theater until now. This is almost certainly the most charming movie theater I've ever been in. As soon as you step in, the popcorn smells delicious. The mural on the ceiling is excellent. Almost every seat in the house is good. A lot of times when I'm watching movies, I feel like the sound is too clean. The speaker set up here has that little echo you used to get before the technology got so good, and I prefer that. It looks like they have a ton of fun events, the selections are unique, classic movie viewings, and some off the beaten path showings. If I lived on the Cape year round, I'd probably come here almost every week. I can't wait to come back next time I'm up here. read more

There is a crowd of regulars and visitors alike should make sure they stop here to see the weekly film (s). Bring a layer- sometimes it can be chilly in the theater. Perfect place to watch a movie with such a vintage homey feel. We went here last night to watch Dracula as live rock music played. The Infra-Men did an impeccable job. The acoustics and the stage were amazing. The cinemas is decorated by Kent in the 1950's with a colorful starry wall. You never see these places in NYC - so this was such a treat! Speaking of which- they have cheap popcorn and snacks at the counter. They only play one movie per show but it brings movie-going to a different level. The seats are comfortable, all red and leather with cute gold decorations. It was just an overall incredible show, fantastic venue with great people. What a great way to celebrate Halloween! If you're ever down to watch a movie different from AMC and Bow Tie- check this place out! You won't regret it! read more

I love visiting the Cape in winter and going out to a movie with my husband on date night is another pleasure. We were visiting P-town and were heading back to our hotel in Hyannis and wanted to see a movie. A wash-ashore friend who lives out there told us to stop at this cinema. I loved it - it was an old church that was converted to a theater in the late 20s. It was wild and different, in a good way. My only complaint were the chairs - they are regular seats but there is not enough head support. Otherwise, it was very enjoyable to watch a movie here. read more

It's amazing to me that I actually haven't seen anything here until this year when I actually lived down the street for 3 years when I was younger. Silly uncultured youth. This year I've seen both a movie and a concert here and both experiences where top notch. The beautiful historic theater (how historic? It premiered "The Wizard Of Oz" before the big NY premier back in the day. Yup. Look for the poster) is set back on a dirt road off the scenic Rt. 6A (no people, not the ugly Cape super highway Rt. 6) and it's around a lot of decent eateries and little shops. Quiet little Dennis center is a sleepy but hidden gem of the Cape for those wanting to be away from the hussle and bussle of the normal summer insanity. The Cape Cinema is a perfect cross section of that. The inside is simple and quaint. The zodiac inspired mural on the ceiling is a great way to pass the time before the show starts. A lot better than the "fun" facts they post at the bigger theaters that you end up seeing 1,287 times each. There's only one screen so you don't have much choice of what you'll see but that actually works out okay. Usually it's a lesser known but critically acclaimed indie flick. I've also had the chance to see a great concert there. The proprietor likes to have indie rockers occasionally grace the historic stage during the summer when the kids are around. I had the pleasure of seeing St. Vincent ( www.ilovestvincent.com ) there and the sound and lights couldn't have fit better at the venue. Plus, they had a limited liquor license for the concert (beer and wine) giving it yet another dimension. The venue is simple and perfect, the sound is great, the staff is wonderful and the location couldn't be better for the true "old Cape Cod" experience. Do yourself a favor and catch both a flick and a concert here if you can. One of the last true places I'd consider doing the "dinner and movie" date thing with. read more

Michael B: we do know how lucky we are to have Cape Cinema. This has to be the finest place to see independent, art house films that I know of. Period. As other have stated, it is on the grounds of the historic Cape Playhouse where the likes of Henry Fonda and Bette Davis trod the boards back in the day. The Cinema is a funky old building, staffed by super friendly people. Even the concession stand is frill-free. And the seats? Someone said they were uncomfortable, but I disagree. They are perfectly comfortable for two hours and I love the simple muslin covers that adorn evrey seat. Many have mentioned the cool mural on the ceiling: it's a Rockwell Kent, people!!!! Rockwell Kent!! I would not change a single thing about this place. The movies are top notch. I have seen too many over the years to even name. And not one a Hollywood schlockbuster (thank god). The very nature of the genre of the movies shown here guarantees that CC will never attract the franchise movie multiplex crowd. I love the previews, too....that's one of the best ways to find out about these movies you otherwise might not ever hear about. Then go to imdb.com and check them out. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and I was here yesterday and saw Before Midnight. Do yourself a favor and travel down pretty 6A to my favorite town on Cape Cod and see great films in a cool, hip, funky atmosphere. Oh, and in the winter, they still show movies, but at The Screening Room, next door, in the basement of the Cape Cod Museum of Art (on the same grounds). read more

Every time I see a movie here I like it more and more. The single screen helps make your decision easier (new movie every weekend), but about 80% of the time they bring an interesting indie or foreign film that you're sure to enjoy. The popcorn is really good and isn't overly greasy, the staff is friendly, but not over the top. I give it four stars because the seats, while spacious and seemingly comfortable, are terrible for your back. The extra space makes up for the lack of a cup holder. read more

The Cape Cinema, located near the Cape Playhouse and Cape Cod Museum of Art, is the best place to go on Cape to see independent and foreign films. In fact, the only other place to go is to the Nickelodeon in Falmouth on Rt. 151. The movies are great and the concession is also fair-priced and very good. The only way for this theater to improve would be to get more comfortable chairs, but that's also part of the charm. read more

This place is really unique. What looks like a converted old church, they only play indie movies and sometimes Broadway shows that have been taped on film. We saw The Artist (which on a side note I would definitely recommend). The seats are a little uncomfortable cause they're a bit old, but overall the experience was very enjoyable. read more

What would we do without Cape Cinema? It cools us in summer, warms us in winter, feeds our souls and minds. Opera, theatre, live music and amazing film. I get my money's worth on my club card year after year. For we residents of the neighborhood, it is a safe haven from malls and a magical place to bring our kids. read more

i'm so glad i found this place during a week of work on cape cod. i saw a 4:30 showing of Into The Wild (which was a great film) and the setting could not have been more charming. I was in a theatre full of sweet elderly people and fancy murals. With one screen, it looks like they switch their movies (mostly art films) every few weeks. I felt like I stepped back in time and I want to step back again soon. read more

Artsy theater showing different movies than the average cineplex. Usually adults so no kids chatting and texting. They probably don't want to see what's playing there anyways. We have a place like that here at home but it's a 45 minute drive away with only street parking. Cape Cinema has a large parking area, smells of fresh popcorn when you walk in the door, and shows an interesting selection of films. And the exterior and interior are architecturally beautiful. Uncomfortable seats and hard to hear sound system make this a poor choice for most movies. And about that ceiling. Many folks take this to be a great work of art.. What it is is a very poor representation of a Rockwell Kent lacking all of the elegance and sophistication of his authentic work. Mostly, it's just big. read more

I've been going to the Cape Cinema from Sandwich for many many years supporting this majestic film house. Now that I live in Yarmouthport it is such an easy ride. I tell everybody about this place! I've even driven there on occasion only knowing that a 7 o'clock movie will faithfully be showing and have never been disappointed. This is what every theater should strive to be. They show interesting films that are otherwise impossible to see on the cape. But the best part is actually the theater itself, you walk in and it feels like a theater not some box with a screen, the ceiling is a big mural, and there is plenty of room between seats basically it makes the movie feel like an event. Awesome, if you haven't gone go even if your not interested in the movie they are playing just stepping into the theater is worth the price of admission. read more

This is a great old theater in a perfectly enjoyable state of disrepair. The mural on the ceiling is stunning. The old Stickley-esque seats are covered with loose canvas throws as a cost-effective update. I find the seats quite comfortable but know others who disagree. You kind of lay back in them. Seats on the edges or front may be broken, which you wouldn't notice unless it's SRO, which it sometimes is for the opera broadcasts. They have the most perfect example of an old-fashioned completely inaccessible men's room down a shockingly narrow staircase into the basement, with authentic old porcelain fixtures and great character. Don't miss it. (There is also an accessible unisex rest room on the main floor.) I prefer this theater for the Live in HD Met Opera screenings in the winter... the screen is somehow more warm than the LCD projector at the WHAT cinema in Wellfleet. Sound is very good, refreshments affordable. Sometimes they spring for a temporary liquor license and sell beer and wine. They do have signs saying "please no outside food or drink" yet I've enjoyed seeing people unpack virtual picnics, teapots included, while they enjoy the show... and thankfully not get chased out. It's an authentic old Cape Cod experience. I really hope they do not update everything. Staff is pleasant, low key, and reasonable... snaps of approval to the nice somewhat goth-looking young "bear" who seems to be involved on a managerial level. Missing the fifth star only because it COULD be a little tidier... it's NOT gross at all, just a little dusty in places. read more

Cape Cinema is the only theater I will go to see movies. The building itself is incredibly beautiful, and once you step into the beautiful lobby, you are surrounded by old and recent movie posters along the tops of the walls. The concession stand is adorable (thank you, Cape Cinema, for finally getting "butter" for the popcorn!). The staff are laid back, friendly, and very accommodating. The theater went through an upgrade recently with new seats, new carpet, and floor lights. I am so glad they kept the colors the same. It still has that old, romantic feel to it. The other night, I saw Dinner Beatriz at Dinner here (amazing movie by the way). After it was over, I thought about all of the films I have seen here as well as the streamed-in live ballet performances. Cape Codders are VERY lucky that they have such a beautiful place to appreciate art. I love every detail of Cape Cinema....I love the indie films, the staff, the atmosphere, and the buttered popcorn! read more
