Their bonbons are the best!! Their bars are really good and the chocolate covered orange peel is one of my favorite things ever. I've been doing their virtual tastings due to Covid and everything I have received has been delicious.

When I came they had run out of a lot of stuff so I wasn't able to enjoy the full experience, but the chocolate cheesecake and chocolate bonbons I did have were amazing. The chocolate with berries and champagne filling, along with the chocolate cayenne are my favorites! I'm dying to come back and try their grilled chocolate croissant, sounds soooo good!

Chocolate lovers rejoice! This chocolate is absolutely delicious! I have not been to the store but received a gift of these chocolates from a friend. My favorite type of chocolate is dark and the gift had about 8 different types of these including one with chili which was the best one for my taste. I plan to visit the store and try their other varieties.

O.M.G! This shop really takes chocolate to the next level! I tried their chocolate at an event and intend to visit their physical location very soon. Their motto is, "Bean to bar," a new twist from the savory industrie's, "Farm to table." Their chocolate treats are art. They have a passion fruit and chocolate mousse. A white chocolate square with dried berries. A brownie with salted caramel... I, personally, love salty and sweet combined with excellent texture. Phenomenal!

We went for a chocolate tasting that the owner offers on Thursday evenings. It was so worth it. He shares chocolates from Venezuela, Costa Rica and Tanzania. Each chocolate has its unique taste, look and even sound. Ricardo, the owner takes the time to explain his passion of chocolate and how he makes each one himself. "From bean to bar." it was such a great experience. And to top it off he ends the night with cheese, crackers (more chocolate) and wine! I recommend the tasting or simply checking out the spot and buying his chocolate. You can tell this is his passion and he takes his time with each chocolate bar. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Oh. My. Lumping. Glob. There aren't enough stars in all of the galaxies to rate this place! The shop is located at an intersection and is a little difficult to get out of if there is too much traffic, but fear not! This place is totally worth the 1 minute hassle of waiting for cars to pass so that you can leave-- not that you WANT to leave. Right when I walked in, I was surprised by how tiny the place was. It is maybe the size of my kitchen! It felt very cozy, home-y, and personal. The woman at the counter (which by other reviews I am assuming is the chocolatier's wife) is a sweetheart. She let us try some chocolates the minute she greeted us and let me tell you, it was literally the best chocolate I had ever tried. I, myself, am not a chocolate lover at all, and I like very dark chocolate when I do it it. And fruity centers? Forget about it-- not this girl! However, the sample of the Passion Fruit chocolate REALLY blew my mind. The taste of passion fruit was perfect, not over or underwhelming... The dark chocolate casing as the perfect toughness (if that's a way to describe chocolate). I mean, wow. I ended up purchasing two of them. The box of 12 was $24 (6 was $12, 24 was $45, etc). I filled mine with two passion fruit, pistachio, two chai tea (MUST TRY), salted caramel (A DREAM), pistachio (OMG), cayenne pepper (YES PLEASE) guava, hazelnut, malt and scotch, and strawberries with rum. Literally all of the chocolates were delicious and had their own distinct, unmissable flavor. These aren't the kind of chocolates where you will leave one in the box because it was just okay. They really are as fantastic as everyone says. I will recommend this place to anyone that asks me what they should give Fulana or Fulano for any occasion. I'll definitely be back, for both the lovely service AND the wonderful, fabulous, so good, very great chocolates!

Great chocolate made by local Miami artisans! You can taste the love and passion that goes into making the variety of chocolates made here. They go out of their way to make sure that the cocoa comes from local farmers that are in fare trade with the growers. That means that the farmers are paid fair prices for their product and are educated on how to grow more and organic. They really care about the farmer and the final product. They get their cocoa beans from several different countries and continent's. My favorites are the milk chocolate bacon, salt and nuts, and caramel. You can also do private chocolate tasting events here. If you Love chocolate like I do then you need to try this place out! Locally made and owned!

I received these chocolates as a gift from one of my costumers, and I have to say I'm dying to go buy more for myself! This is a true chocolate lovers dream ! If you love chocolate, YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE OUT! Reading the reviews they have chocolate tasting on thursdays.... forSURE i'm going next thursday !

Take your taste buds on a chocolate vacation! No really, I mean a real, authentic, made from scratch chocolate vacation. The chocolates here are made daily from scratch with the actual cacao beans!! Who does that in Miami?? You will taste the difference the minute you put a piece in your mouth. We attended a chocolate tasting after purchasing a Groupon deal. It's a tiny cozy adorable shop. We learned a whole lot about how chocolates are made and where the cacao beans actually come from. Not from Belgium! Ricardo has a very large selection of chocolates to try. Even non chocolate lovers like my bf will convert. I love local businesses with owners who are passionate about their product. Cao chocolates has to be on the top 5 Miami businesses who meet this criteria. I hope they grow and last forever! This girl needs her chocolate fix every month!! You get me?? Go check them out today!

Went for a tasting on a Groupon bought as a gift. It turned out to be quite the gift that we turned around & gave it as a gift as well. Ricardo emphasizes a proper method to truly taste a piece of chocolate. His demeanor is serious, yet friendly. He shares a wealth of knowledge about his trade as he relates the tasting notes to different foods that we would be a little more particular about. He roped me in with the relation of chocolate to scotch & how different areas have different tastes. He holds a legit foodie experience when sharing his passion for chocolates. Definitely worth it to check it out!

Such an amazing little spot! I got a chocolate mini cake and a coconut mini cake. Both were to die for. Very smooth and more cheesecake-y. Worth every bite! Each lil cake was a little more than $3, but again, it was totally worth it! Definitely coming back for these!

Wow these little Chocolates are a true gems. The caramel filled, leaf-shaped white chocolate had a little spicy zing that I loved! The hazelnut filled milk chocolate was better than having a Nutella filled Godiva truffle. Finally, the salted caramel filled chocolate was truly salted - not just boring filled caramel with a few grains of sea salt. They have cold desserts too :) This is my new favorite chocolate shop! Yay!

When you think of passion for chocolate, you think of Ricardo and this little gem in Miami! Tried out the chocolate and it was a great way to spend my Thursday night! Learned a lot, chocolates were heavenly and made me appreciate the process and devotion to the REAL stuff. I bought the hot chocolate mix to bring home at the end, perfect for these chilly days. I hope I can meet his wife on my next visit :)
Review for Virtual Tasting: My college alumni organization hosted a tasting event run by Ricardo at Cao. It was quite a delight. He patiently walks through the chocolate making process end to end. The passion he has for the farmers is inspiring. The chocolate was quite good, the brownie was meh, and the overall experience was fantastic. read more
I received five Cao Chocolate bars as part of a chocolate taste testing organized by a third party. First and foremost, I was very impressed with the packaging and care to temperature control that was given by Cao. Now, let's get to the good stuff. My absolute favorite chocolate bar was the White Chocolate Raspberry, which had real pieces of dried raspberry in it. The quality of all of the chocolate I tried was hands down, one of the smoothest and best chocolate I've had in a while. Additionally, some of the dark chocolate was dairy free and vegan, which is a plus for those with sensitivities or allergies. read more
I love supporting mom and pop shops like Cao Chocolates. Located near a highway with shared parking in a pull up row of small shops, Cao Chocolates is a very small shop filled with lots of delicious goodies and owners who love their craft. Note: parking is very limited but free. I had the pleasure of tasting the following: -key lime pie cheesecake - perfect amount of tart -dulce de leche - light dulce flavor -coconut cheesecake - nutty with little bites of coconut, my favorite -guava cheesecake - light guave flavor leaving you wanting more in the best way Note: all cheesecakes had the perfect creamy taste and texture; cheesecake $3 each -36 assorted bon bons/truffles for $62. Some had alcohol (apple and bourbon, Ponce crema with rum). Delicious - haven't eaten them all though -assorted chocolate bars $4 each - Tanzania bar was my favorite; for being 73% dark chocolate, it didn't feel like it as there were strong hints of fruit flavors They also do catering throughout the year and host chocolate making sessions during the summer. Ricardo was super nice in helping me pick out treats. Support this local shop! read more

Hands down, the best chocolate in Miami! Dare i say, in the country? I visited this place initially to buy some fancy chocolates as hostess gifts for a few dinner parties I've attended and they received rave reviews from everyone that tried them. So it's unanimous. I've been in here only three times which is a huge shocker since I live within walking distance and its dangerous to have a place selling chocolate this delicious so close by (especially one week out of the month...ladies, I know you feel me on this). The owners are so nice and helpful and take the time to go through their vast variety of options. These people really know their craft and the pride they take in their creations is beyond evident. The last time I was in there was just prior to St. Patty's and I was given a stout beer chocolate to taste that freakin' knocked my socks off. Im a bit of a beer geek so I'm particular about experimenting with that. Don't even get me started on the Cabernet truffle. Pure heaven. (Although I think this review is starting to make me sound like quite the boozehound...which isn't totally inaccurate. But I digress...). OMG and the grilled chocolate filled croissants. They are buttery and flaky and oozing with delicious high quality chocolate. You will feel as if you need to go straight to the confessional booth immediately after eating it because it MUST be a sin to eat something that good. If that is wrong, i don't wanna be right! read more

This is good quality chocolate. I'm not a chocolate lover... Let's scratch that... I'm not a cheap chocolate lover.. Aka American chocolate. This place has the good stuff. Not cheap but worth every penny. That day I went to pick up a pizza in the same strip shopping center. I spotted the chocolates and I knew I had to stop by. Hubby is a chocolate freak. The store was closed because they had a chocolate and wine tasting. The owner was so kind to open the store for me. He was incredibly nice and told me about all the different chocolates he had. I got 2 white, 2 milk with almonds and my favorite, the Thai chocolate. Needless to say... I'll be back soon read more
Contrary to popular belief; the confections at Cao Chocolates aren't created by chocolatiers, but rather by travel-guides. The Trillos family designs day-trips to Tuscany around Dark Chocolate-dipped Figs and encourage you to explore morsels of Mumbai with their cardamom-spiced Chai Truffle. Cacao beans naturally absorb flavor notes form their environment and Cao assures you'll be able to perceive them by purchasing their ingredients directly from the source. Every bite belongs to a place you'll recognize again and again as you delve deeper into the atelier's works of art. Enjoy seasonal varieties like Caramel-Seasalt Bonbon or indulge in a nightcap classic infused with Macallan 12 year old single-malt scotch. Treat yourself to an edible escape at their boutique or order online. read more

My friends and I purchased the Groupon for the chocolate tasting. Although the reservation process was a bit challenging for 4 people (it was just a lot of back and forth with the owner which was frustrating at first) but once I walked in, I understood just due to how small the place was. The tasting was really educational, the owner was nice - although he called me out and jokingly gave me a hard time about calling him several times (I mean, I was just trying to get a YES or NO) but overall it was a nice experience. Learned a lot about chocolate making and he's definitely super passionate about his craft, which was great. The chocolate we sampled was also super delicious! *I will say though, the Groupon did NOT mention that this past Thursday would be his last tasting of the year. This review would have been WAY different if I had purchased and not been able to get into the tasting this time. He mentioned he'd start again next year, so I do feel that's something he should add to the Groupon description so people know before they buy it OR at least remove the deal until he starts it back up again. read more

Bean to bar the way it should be. Every city needs a place like Cao, a small independently owned shop where its owners are passionate about the product, extremely knowledgeable, and willing to experiment. Cao is the penultimate hole in the wall gem that I'm reluctant to share, and yet I feel deserves to be the name on everybody's mind when they think of chocolate. Although you can obtain single origin bars, lovingly prepared to exhibit the unique flavor profiles of the region the beans originated from, the flavored chocolates are hard to resist. Expect to find truffles mixed with distinctive ingredients like Cabernet and bacon, or a spiced curry. The dark chocolate covered orange sticks, or candied ginger, make the perfect post-dinner treat with a glass of wine (or just by themselves since they are delicious). Also consider stopping in for a cup of decadent hot chocolate, and be sure to check the bottom of the cup for the melted truffle treat at the end. Cao additionally hosts a number of tasting events, which makes for an excellent opportunity to learn more about chocolate while enjoying their high quality product. Learning never tasted so good. I'd suggest following them on social media to see what they're doing next, or to whet your palate with some tantalizing pictures of their latest concoction. I have no doubt that Cao will only rise in fame and accolades, and for now I'm just grateful for the wonderful neighborhood spot to satisfy my sweet tooth or to provide that perfect pairing at our next beer tasting. read more

Bought a livingsocial coupon for a chocolate/cheese/wine tasting. This place is a little tricky to find (my google gps told me to go in the wrong place), it is in the same strip mall as a pizza shop and Clarabelle's cupcakes. Once we entered, we were greated by Ricardo, the person who makes all the chocolates. He was very pleasant and friendly. So everyone arrives and sits down (there is space for about 20 people) and then Ricardo begins. First, he tells you a little bit about himself and then he tells you the process about how chocolates are made. As he tells the process you can see how passionate he is about his craft and how much he knows about making chocolate. The first chocolates you try (in order) are a white chocolate, milk, dark, a blend of milk and dark (store bought so you can tell the difference), and then a richer, smoother dark chocolate. He tells you how to taste the chocolate using all five senses. Every chocolate is smooth, rich, and full of cacao flavor. Each one has its own subtle notes and aromas. You can easily tell the difference between the store bought chocolate and the chocolates he makes. After those are finished, he lets the crowd loose on his other confections. Tonight we tried bonbons which are chocolates with unique fillings inside (we tried strawberry basil, bourbon, and salted caramel), chocolate truffles (really rich smooth chocolate filing with a chocolate shell dipped in a cover, think ferrer roche (we had coconut, pistachio, and 2-3 others which I forgot what they were covered with) and a chocolate mousse. For the wine, he had two types (two bottles each, so you could probably get about two, maybe three glasses), a cabernet and malbec. There was two cheeses, crackers, and a deli meat. (I could tell it was ritz crackers and publix bought cheese, I think a cheddar and swiss, dont expect anything fancy) All of the bon bons, truffles, and the mousse were really good. The pistachio truffle was really good, but the stars were the basil/strawberry and salted caramel bon bons. These two were spectacular, really nice bitter rich dark chocolate outside and the fillings inside were full of flavor. The basil and strawberry was a very interesting combo that tasted great. He has a lot of cheese, so you could definitely get more, and for the chocolates, he also put out a good amount, so depending on how hungry the other people are, you will definitely be able to get 2nds and 3rds of some of the chocolates, maybe more. (I was able to have 5 strawberry basil ones!) I paid $20 dollars per person for this tasting and I felt it was well worth it, would I pay the original price of $40? I don't think so. Overall I had a really pleasant time learning about chocolates, about Ricardo's story, and trying all of his delicious sweets. If you're in the mood for chocolates, I definitely recommend stopping by his shop and trying some out. read more
I wasn't craving chocolate until I walked out of getting a green juice down the street. This craving was tamed by the most insanely delicious $2 3 bites of sweetness. I opted for the salted chocolate. It was soft and I never really understood why people call chocolate 'decadent' until now. There are gift options, bars and other to-go treats, too! read more
If you go anywhere else in Miami for your chocolate fix, you are just triflin' (or trufflen') around. Go here to get you some learning, as well as buy everything off the glorious menu. The staff will teach you a thing or three about their bean-to-bar program, which is the only one of it's kind in SoFlo. Where most chocolate shops buy chips and melt them down to create their bon bons, Cao himself imports all their cocoa beans direct from farmers across the globe (most of which are organic, or from natural farming operations) to create the luscious bounty on display. They have a variety of single-origin chocolate bars for purchase as well, so you can get a taste of multiple chocolately terroirs. Heck, they even do tasting classes on this throughout the month--and you can bet you'll see me there at least once. All their truffles wowed me, but you certainly can't miss the decadent dark chocolate mango-lemon or the guava-dulce de leche, which I did not expect to like at all. Instead, it swept me up into a beautiful adult riff on peanut butter and jelly, that was complex but so so satisfying. Lastly, don't skip their baked goods and confections. Life-giving, magnificent chocolate mousse, scrumptious and adorable mini cheesecakes will get you drooling, even if the chocolate doesn't (and shame on you). But don't skip what are quite possibly the best brownies I've ever tasted--with the option to top your dessert with bacon and salted caramel. You know who you are. read more

Is Valentine's Day REALLY Valentine's Day without chocolate? If you're looking for some great quality chocolate that is reasonably priced and overly perfect, I suggest you order from them. Stop thinking about it! Just go for it! Aside from being gorgeous little pieces of heaven, and being beautifully packaged, they are available on UberEATS so you don't even have to get off your bed! I decided to order these for my aunt on Valentine's Day to surprise her when she got home, and boy was she happy! In the notes, I figured it would be a long shot but I added "If possible, please add a small card saying, 'Happy Valentine's Day Mimi! I love you.'" And much to my surprise, THEY DID IT. It made me so happy to see that they actually took the time to add the final little touch to make my surprise perfect. Great customer service and even better chocolate. Highly recommended! read more

Went here last week for a tasting with my girlfriend. I highly recommend the experience! Ricardo is extremely nice and informative; it's clear he is very passionate about his work. Tasting included 4 chocolates, an "industry" comparison, choice of cab/malbec, crackers, a mango lime mousse, and various truffles/confections. Chocolates were out of this world, especially the ones on the darker end of the spectrum. Before this, I had never had "bean to bar" chocolate before...unfortunately the whole thing has made me a chocolate snob! read more

Not enough stars to really express how good Cao Chocolates are. Chef Ricardo Trillos has a real passion for creating spectacular chocolate and it is very evident in his products. It's no exaggeration to say these are the absolute best in South Florida. My wife and I had the distinct pleasure of attending a chocolate tasting where Chef Trillos guided us through the sampling of a variety of chocolates. He educated us on the subtle (and some not-so-subtle) differences between white, milk and dark chocolate. He showed us that using only the finest ingredients leads to extraordinary results. Then we got to taste several of their amazing confections. OMG! Hey, I'm not really a big chocolate lover. But I'm a huge fan of Cao Chocolates and Chef Trillos. read more

My girlfriend was graduating college and she loves chocolate, so I thought of this very high rated chocolatier! I showed up and found this to be a very small but cute place. I thought well, a unique gift like this would be a perfect way to commemorate her big event. I got her the 12pk of chocolates, which comes in a nice gift bag. She let me try some and they were quite delicious, worth the price. I had one inconvenience, I only had a $50 bill. The clerk said that the bill was too big and they were not accepting it due to previous counterfeit efforts. I had left my wallet at home and only had this bill I keep in my car for emergencies -- now I know to keep smaller bills. Anyways, I asked if she accepted Paypal and she did to my surprise. She gave me a free $3 bar of chocolate which was also lovely. This is a great unique gift for anyone who loves chocolate (and who doesn't?) read more

We made the drive to buy a box of 12 assorted truffles and molded chocolates for a last-minute gift, but after sampling the passion fruit bon bon I had to add on a 6 piece box for me. My husband and toddler both loved the milk chocolate truffles. I didn't manage to steal a bite from either of them, but the boys assured me they were awesome. The passion fruit filling in my sample was super vibrant and fresh. The chipotle & milk chocolate was equally delicious with just a hint of heat that stuck around nicely. I'm definitely looking forward to trying the other flavors I got: Key Lime, white chocolate & blackberry, hazelnut & almond, and spicy caramel. They also do mini cheesecakes and mousses, chocolate covered fruit and a few other items. Cao Chocolates is definitely on my list of places to go for a special treat. read more

Walk in and you're greeted with genuine friendliness and the aroma of warm, melty chocolate. I went for coffee with my mum on a rain-besotted afternoon. I ordered a cappuccino and my mother, a mocha. The owner added two chocolate truffles into her drink. Much to my pleasure, he dropped a square of white chocolate / coffee bean candy into mine, on the house. The cappuccino was so good! Smooth, rich, and crowned with lots of foam. Mum also ordered a chocolate croissant. Here they slice open a fresh croissant, stuff it with truffles, and toast it flat in a panini press. The owners offered us samples of products - even some prototypes they were working on. Not only do they want to hear customer feedback for any new ideas, they've nailed the quality of what they currently offer. Mother dearest bought chocolate-covered fruits to bring home, and they were very good. The torrential downpour tapered into a gloomy drizzle; it was so nice to be in the cozy shop chatting with the owners while cradling a beautifully crafted coffee. And to think, mother dearest wanted to go to a chain coffee shop. She couldn't stop talking about the Cao experience for the rest of the afternoon. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Ricardo T.
"From accounting to chocolates" I decided to move from my hometown country - Venezuela to United States in 2004 looking for better and different opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Cao has always been my nickname since many years ago and that's the way my family and friends call me all the time. It was only a couple of months after I moved that realized how much I was missing my good and rich Venezuelan chocolate and the rest is history. After years learning about chocolates and asking my family in Venezuela to bring chocolates every time they visit, the passion turned into a hobby and I decided to go beyond and purchase books besides attending any chocolate making class available in the area. Working in accounting during the day and making chocolates at night and weekends just for fun is how I was spending most of my time until one of the many life changes I've had happened and decided to take this hobby to another level and make a dream happen.
