I would strongly caution parents before enrolling their children here. David Ring frequently makes belittling comments when kids make mistakes and handles frustration in a childish way. The lack of patience & name calling I witnessed was inappropriate for someone working with young children and created a toxic, discouraging environment. Ive been coming here for years.. got 2 kids who went through baseball in our community, and the staff here has personally trained both of them. Granted, my 17 year old just does football now, but my 12 year old is right in the mix.. We love to book our Team's Cage and Training time with them! They connect well to the kids. You can prepay for 4-8 group sessions (just get a sponsor to pay for it!).. you come in, they handle it, its magical :) They also give back to the community ... throughout the baseball season, they get perks and roll them down to the kids. We've gone to a couple Padres games on their tickets in previous seasons.. as they get hooked up, they pass it down.. thats awesome! They just remodeled it inside and they did an amazing job! Don't ever leave your son alone with this person david ring , keep In mind my son was 13 yrs old ! Came back in after 10 min & he was humiliating my kid for no reason saying things to a kid that no parent would say on there worst day! hes been a 3 or 4 hitter on almost every team hes been on & was swearing & acting like a maniac ! I literally had to pull my kid out after 10 min in cage & told my kid get your bag that's the end of it & I appologized to my son for my awful decision to send him to a maniac ! Apparently he was upset I missed the previous appt , but was still going to pay him because it was my error .... parents I can only tell you BEWARE ! David Ring is not a decent person ! First two lessons with coach David was great. I then made the mistake of signing my son up for 20 lessons. That's when things turned. Coach David starting yelling at my kid and even giving my 9year old kid the f-word. David Ring said he doesn't want to coach my kid anymore (not I would let him continue) and refused to refund money for my remaining lessons. read more

I looked around for a Good hitting coach in my area, but no luck. So I decided to make the two hour drive to Canyonside Cages. Coach Dave was great when we first met him. I love this place! I've been to other batting cages and even used to work one back in the day, but I can say that this place is top notch! Coach Ring and his staff are very knowledgeable about baseba and their love for their game is evident. The place has only two cages so i would recommend giving them a call ahead of time to make sure their is availability. Even though it's a smaller space compared to other baseball/ softball facilities, the place has more of a personal vibe between the staff at canyonside and their customers. He is super patient with him when he doesn't understand something, and always gives us stuff to work on before we return. 2 years ago my son was (don't tell anyone) one of the worst players in his division. Dave Ring is a good hitting coach no doubt, but he prefers "his" type of players. He will be come short on temper with younger players to the point where I had to step in. Telling an 10 year old, "you're not working hard enough" to the point of tears for a child who clearly wants to please his teacher. He abuses is role as a teacher and has no concept of forming a bond with his students but to alienate those who don't fit his mold of player (typical pattern with some coaches). It must be nice to be selective in who you want to do business with. read more

Dave and Tom run a great cage in San Diego off Miramar rd where I go to throw BP to friends and hit 2-3 times a week and love the place. It feels real private and you can really get your work in and then hang out with them for awhile. Check it out and like the other post call for reservations. You will have a great time. read more

Not only are these cages the REAL DEAL as far as pitching and hitting goes, including the REAL baseballs, but this place is fun to hang out at. They have created a real baseball feel where you can really practice and improve your game while making it a comfortable place to hang out/wait for your turrn. When I have kids I will be bringing them to canyonside to start playing at a young age. I've really enjoyed the relationship that Coach Dave and his staff has developed with my 12 year old son. Coach Dave and his staff have been working with him for the last three years and I've seen great results in both hitting and most recently pitching. I encourage everyone to stick with Coach Dave if you're trying to develop your young player. We have been to Canyonside for a team batting practice and for their 3 day camp. The coaches are patient and skilled in their instruction and the kids LOVE it. Best part was after the three day camp when I asked my daughter if she learned anything she was able to articulate and demonstrate what she was doing wrong prior to camp, her new techniques for swinging and explained why this was going to help her hitting. I brought my son to Canyonside a couple of years ago when he was in his first year of majors in little league. Through 3/4 of the season, he had 2 hits. I asked the Dads of the kids who always seemed to make good contact who they went to and they all said Coach Dave at Canyonside. After a couple of lessons, my son started making good contact and was getting at least 1 hit a game. My son is also a good pitcher. But he also hurt his arm because he had a natural side arm motion. After he recovered, I had to have him pitch a totally different way. Again, Coach Dave was there teach my son all the mechanics he needed. My son has been going there for 3 years now, for both batting and pitching. He is now playing D1 travel ball. Dave gave my son the technical and mental skills to be successful. He is heading off to high school ball, but we will keep going to Canyonside. Coach Dave doesn't baby the kids. If you want someone to always tell you kid, "Good Job," go somewhere else. But if you want someone who will get results, I highly recommend Coach Dave and Canyonside. read more

Do not recommend for young first time baseball players with the objective to learn foundational hitting skills. The instructor did not have patience teaching young, inexperienced player. Sounds like a better environment for older, experienced kids that want to take their game to the next level. I coach my son at MMYB and like most fathers who Coach. It is hard to get your own son to listen without screaming at them. It is always good to get outside help and David and Tom are outstanding. The rates are solid and my son is improving. Yes it is small, but if you plan ahead, you will get your time in. I also take my team there to use the cages when raining and David and Tom not only feed the balls in the machine, they give all my boys tips to improve. They are not clock watchers either and if they go a little over the time, they make sure the next group wating gets additional time. They have a small game room and a Wii set up to make even the grumpiest of kids happy while waiting there turn to use cage. I want them to succeed but I also don't want them so busy that they cannot accomodate me and my selfish needs. Great Job CBSA. I have tried Sorrento, BB in Poway, and JP Longballs and CBSA is my fav! The owner and head instructor, Dave, is a former coach of mine and I was happy to learn he opened up his own batting cages in Miramar area. Dave's place is great place to get hacks in. He has many types of bats to try out and a lot of different practice methods; you can use the tee, pitching machine, or even take live BP from Dave or one of his instructors. The place itself is very relaxing and unlike any other batting cage I've been to. Its very colorful and the walls are lined with cool sports memorabilia. Aside from that, the place has a great AC unit so it's always cool and it's also set up with a video game system and couches to relax if there's down time or in between hitting rounds. I know Dave and his instructors run great camps as well for kids. I would highly recommend Canyonside baseball for overall hitting practice or for kids to learn fundamentals for baseball... Or anything baseball related. Pros hit at this place too! read more

I can't say enough good things about David Ring and Canyonside Baseball Academy. After my 8 year old struck out 5 of 6 times in his first two games, I tracked down Dave and brought my son in. Dave immediately figured out what was going on with my son's swing, and within two lessons, my son did not strike out again all season (against a 40 mph pitching machine). We signed up for ten lessons, and my son continued to gain strength and confidence as a hitter. He ended up on his all-star team at the end of the year, playing at the big end-of-year tournament. Dave is great with kids (and adults), approaching kids with the perfect demeanor to get children to perform at high levels without angst. We will absolutely be using Dave again during the season and off-season. read more

I loved coming here. My son learned a lot. This is for people who are serious about working on their game. If you are not taking him seriously or working hard Dave will let you know, which is great. Canyonside's slogan is "Where hitters are made!" And it takes hard, dedicated work to do it. Our first experience was as a team and the prices were more than reasonable. Dave has some different gadgets and recommendations that make you focus on a specific aspect of hitting. At the end if our sessions he always talked to the players and reviewed what was worked on. Other places it is just renting a cage. He also has a hands on staff that offers hitting tips. The best part I think was that Dave and his staff knew all the players names and remembered what they were working on week to week. That is building a positive relationship with the kids and that is what any parent wants to see. read more
