As the first graduating class of this school, I can say that I've seen lots of improvement over the years I've gone here. While I have enjoyed my time here, unfortunately I can't realistically rate this over 3 stars. Our school has 3 huge problems. The first being the overall design of the school. While it looks nice, the layout is not practical. Some classrooms can't accommodate for the needs of the students. The classrooms also change every couple weeks. This means that if your math class is in the H building, the next week it could be in the A building. This is really annoying, it doesn't really add anything positive to the school, and there is no easy way to figure out which classroom you're in. Luckily I usually stop in the front office where they have the rooms posted, but if I didn't do that I'd basically have to wander around the school until I find my classroom. There's also the Jaguar Success system, which acts as a study hall, essentially. In all 4 years Ive been here they've been trying so hard to get this to work, but they just can't get it to work, to the point where we haven't even had it in the past few months. The second huge problem is safety. Believe me when I say that most, if not all of the students in this school do not feel safe. Most classrooms have 3 walls, and instead of a 4th wall, there's either a glass wall or nothing. So this means if someone were to have a gun on campus, lockdowns are essentially ineffective, as they could easily see all of the students. In the fourth year of this school being open, we had a real lockdown, and it proved that this school was not prepared to handle this situation. First of all, there's nowhere to hide, so we all felt unsafe, and lots of students that I know even had panic attacks. The announcements in one of the buildings weren't even working, and that whole building didn't even KNOW there was a lockdown. The school has gotten better at lockdowns since this incident, but no matter what, the layout of the school makes it impossible to feel safe. Some of the gates on the outside of the school remain open or are short enough that people could easily jump them. The third problem is discipline. This school has a SERIOUS problem with not being able to discipline students or enforce rules. A few years ago they tried making us all wear lanyards with our student IDs visible. Why didn't they continue doing this? Because they didn't enforce it. People just stopped wearing their IDs and the staff stopped trying to enforce it. And take one look at what half of the girls are wearing, then read what our dress code is. The dress code isn't enforced at all either. I can't stress enough how this school just CAN NOT discipline or enforce anything enough. One more thing I'd like to point out are the fights that happen at this school. Our school gets a bad rep for all the fights, but I need to clear something up. In the first 3 years, there was maybe one or two fights a year, not at all bad for a high school. But this year, we've had many fights, and let me clarify that it's been the sophomores and freshman. It's pretty normal for the freshman to not be very mature and get into fights, and our sophomores are basically freshman, as they had a whole year of school online. Overall, there are many positive things about this school, but the serious safety issues and the problem with discipline NEEDS to be addressed. read more
