Although the meal was of a substandard quality, for example as advertised crispy vegetable chow mien was obviously just a mix of over boiled noodles and incredibly soggy vegetables which had frankly only seen the inside of a saucepan and not a wok, the duck which was so dry that thankfully the person eating it had her full compliment of teeth. This in itself although not a good gastronomic experience could be forgiven and put down to the chef having a bad day and cutting corners.
The crowning glory though had to be the very dead moth found at the bottom of the packet of prawn crackers, only discovered due to the bag being left on the table for everyone to share; it now explains what the little black marks were on some of the produce.
To add insult to injury when a telephone call was made to the establishment to complain in particular about the dead insect in the prawn crackers and the substandard food, the establishment showed no remorse, no apology was made and the flippancy of the person dealing with the telephone call was incredibly disrespectful.
Eventually the establishment deemed to offer to refund half of the cost of the meal on the condition that the remains of the meal and the moth be taken down to the premises for inspection despite the fact that a lift would have to be arranged.
On arrival at the establishment criticisms were made on the fact that the majority of the prawn crackers had been eaten, no regard for the fact that a dead insect was in the food, flippant sarcastic comments were made about the food standards agency can inspect their kitchens anytime. Still no apology or concern shown at having an insect in the food was made and this conversation culminated in staff at the establishment laughing in my face.
Finally and to my mother's saving grace a customer walked into the shop and to shut us up they gave us a full refund.
A full refund is a good outcome yes, but, to have no concern shown of the hygiene standards and lack of checking allowing an insect into your food and to have to stand in a shop and be laughed at is not just inappropriate but shows a total lack of respect for a customer.
To finish the moth which has shown up very clearly in the photographs taken as evidence, will remain a constant reminder never again to use an establishment with such poor standards of hygiene.
