We had a really nice meal here (from the carvery); big place; traditional beers, reasonably priced food; great views.

A brilliant place. Carvery is excellent. It's best to book well in advance as it gets very busy.

“I love the fact you need to book in advance, shows how popular the place is and if you want a quiet meal you wouldn't go to a carvery.”

Stopped in for a Saturday lunch on a bank holiday weekend - started out slow but did get busy so…read moreyou may want to book ahead or prepare for that! The setting is absolutely lovely, and you can get a table near a window overlooking the water. The decor was casually elegant, like a proper restaurant and more than just an inn! It should be noted that the Coombe Cellars Inn has changed hands about 4 years ago, so any prior reviews should probably be taken with a grain of salt as things have clearly changed. They had quite a lengthy lunch menu offering a two course prix-fixe for £11.95. Most a la options aren't on the prix-fixe menu but they had plenty of good choices. I started with the soup of the day which was potato leek and spinach (or something much like it), which was silky, light, and fresh. Came with two pieces of crusty bread for dipping and was very satisfying as a first course. I then had the gnocchi with summer vegetables. The gnocchi were pillowy and delightful to eat, the flavor of the dish was mild but it was a great option for somebody who is looking for something a bit on the lighter side. Others in the group had the lamb meatballs and were absolutely raving about them the whole time! The one thing is that service was quite slow throughout. Slow to take orders, slow to bring food. All servers were friendly and joked pleasantly with us, but they aren't speedy about it. Nonetheless, as long as you aren't in a massive hurry, it's really a lovely place to have a meal with a great view.

Nibbles and drinks. We had four starters to go with our drinks, all good. In fact very good, they…read morehave got a lot better. And a lovely setting, watching the sun set over the moors in June. One problem, the staff. We asked to sit outside. Told they were short staffed and we couldnt, even though the place was almost empty, and the staff hung around the bar chatting a lot. Then saw a couple outside have their order taken. Come one! OK, even if you closed off the wood decking area outside, we could have sat just outside the back door, which you can see from the bar and is easy to cover. So we took our drinks and rest of our food out there. But of course only on the proviso we pay first, in case we run off. Really? You need to have a word with your staff, they need to be more flexible. Need to realise what is good for the customer is good for their wages.
