It is an honor and a privilege to write the first review here of this excellent restaurant. We stumbled upon this restaurant as tourists and could tell it was going to be great. It's a fresh take on fairly straightforward chinese food with a mexi/mexicali twist. Limes everywhere and I'm here for it. As I am from SF and LA, I see alot of Mission Chinese Food and other kind of young hip chinese places as comparisons. The food was excellent. The vibe is young and cool, the playlist was 60s garage and surf rock and not too too loud, great service.
Mexicali beef- must order. I've never had beef quite like this and it was delicious, very crispy but not greasy, they claim stir fried but I've never seen something this texture come out of a wok, mysterious and delicious. Loaded with wok blackened veggies as well which were almost better than the meat.
Dan Dan Noodles- excellent, not too spicy in my opinion if you're used to spicy chinese noodles.
General Tso's Chicken- a good rendition, not that unique but very well done.
Cucumber salad- We order this whenever we see it, a very good version with a sesame/peanut base sauce.
Pork wonton- For me just ok but my husband thought they were excellent. Good use of black vinegar.
Carnitas colorados- basically classic roast pork chashu, very tasty
Green Fried Rice- very good, eclectic with many different veggies than are normally found in fried rice.
We ordered all this for two people because we only eat two meals a day. For normal appetites this would probably be 1-2 too many dishes for 2 people, but in general the starter portions are not that big. read more
