This restaurant was nicely decorated and was quiet on a Tuesday night. I'm betting it's packed on the weekend. Service was very attentive and exceeded expectations. Menus were available in English which was a plus. Appetizer of rangoons was loaded with meat. I had the spicy chicken noodles which were really tasty. Sauce was sweet and a hint of spice. Noodles had a texture more like an Italian noodle rather than what you expect with a Chinese dish. My colleague ordered a fried rice which looked moist and he almost polished off the entire huge serving. The servings here are large! A palate cleansing frozen lemonade in a shot glass with a fortune cookie was served. Very unusual and excellent. Dessert was a Coco Flan. Packed with coconut flakes and unabashedly sweet. Overall one of the best meals enjoyed in Mexico City.

But I give them credit for providing excellent service! Now onto the not so good part. The prices are excessive. If you are from the US, the prices are above and beyond the US prices. The two of us spent over $100. I had not expected that. Let me give an example - 3 egg rolls for 325 pesos! That's $16 USD, or over $5 for each egg roll! A small soup was over $10 USD, not to mention how excessively salty it was! We wanted to have the Peking duck. There was no option to order 1/2 a duck as there were just two of us. So we decided to order the whole duck anyway, for about $60 USD! The duck was ok. But the pancakes and the sauce did not meet the standard, and the rice that came with it could have used a bit more cooking time. Overall, it was a highly mixed experience. I felt the most of the cost of the dinner went towards paying for the look of the restaurant and the service, very little would go to justifying the quality and the value of the food. Not recommended.

We ordered it from Uber Eats so it may not be the best representation of the food but anyways. - Sopa De Res Taiwanesa - Seeing the Spanish translation is so interesting to me as really they take into account what locals will understand what the food means to them. I thought this beef noodle soup was okay, the broth was underwhelming and quite watered down. The noodles also felt a bit like ramen noodles. The beef was not super tender. - Arroz Con Pork Belly - I definitely recommend this dish instead as the pork was very juicy and flavorful and the meat drippings paired very well with the rice. Overall, it's not the best Taiwanese food you'll ever get but I guess it will satisfy your Asian cravings when in CDMX.

The place had quite a few tables of Chinese customers, and most of the staff only spoke Chinese. My friend is Mexican so it was kind of funny that they put us in what appeared to be the "Mexican Corner" with other Mexican customers and a Mexican waiter. The menu was only in Chinese, so my friend asked if we could just walk to where the food was near the entrance and point. That seemed to work well. Of the four dim sum places I've been to, this place had the widest variety. But some of the dishes were better than others. For example, there was a seafood dumpling that didn't taste right, but the pork dumplings were great.

Save your money and throw it away on lotto tickets instead -- at least then you have a chance of ending up a winner. The space itself is underground and vaguely Chinatown-themed. A bit gaudy, but not totally out of character for the genre. The staff was attentive and food arrived quickly, which unfortunately was the highlight of the meal. Course after course was a disappointment. The sopa de tallarín con huevo was essentially spaghetti in chicken stock (likely bouillon) topped with a fried scrambled egg. The wonton soup wasn't much better, served with two large slabs of dried-out, tasteless pork that were tough to cut and harder to enjoy. The wontons themselves were the worst part. Both soups were firmly one-star at $149 pesos each. The rice arrived broken, overcooked, and pasty. Another one-star addition. Then the mains. The pollo agridulce came with exactly six pieces of chicken, served cold, sitting on an iridescent bed of what I can only guess were kohlrabi or broccoli stems. The color was unholy. At $250 pesos, this was another easy one-star dish. I actually felt insulted on this. The chow mein cantonese was possibly worse. For $350 pesos, you get a pile of stems -- bok choy, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower -- mixed with subpar chow mein noodles, all served cold. More of the same dry pork showed up again, mixed awkwardly with warm chicken and hot shrimp, all drenched in a gelatinous sauce. Serving stems and temperature roulette is also to me insulting. To be fair, not everything was completely terrible. The res mongolian (hopefully Inner Mongolia province in China and not nearby neighboring country Mongolia) was serviceable and reasonably tasty, though still overpriced at $250 pesos. There was a ridiculous amount of leek and green onion relative to the meat, which itself was just decent. But nothing here will do much to save Luau from itself. CDMX has extraordinary food. Do yourself a favor and find it somewhere else. Happy eating from John Seeto!

The sign said that they are open for both breakfast and lunch, and I'm glad that I made it a little bit early for breakfast. There were a lot of options on the menu. The eggs were good, but the beans were a little cold and there wasn't much. It always seems to be the case that they never want to dish out more than a sip of refried beans. The Server was pretty cool, and I didn't need to request the check this time. The ambiance is what it is, and I've grown to like the less fancier style and things more traditional around here.

It was also only a 10-minute walk from my hotel. All signs pointing to a great meal and experience. What a disappointment! As I approached the restaurant, there was a young men in black with menus inviting me to come on in. I asked him if I could have a table at the balcony and he quickly brought me to the perfect spot. That's where this great experience began and ended. It was a great place to sit and watch the world go by on the street below. I really enjoyed that. My stomach has been a little queasy the last day or so which is quite normal when I travel, so I decided that it might be best to order something kind of neutral. I ordered wonton soup with shrimp wontons. The soup was nothing special. Some broth with very little else other than the wontons. No vegetables other than a couple of pieces of onion and scallipns, no noodles, no nothing. What was even more disappointing was that the waiter never checked back in with me one time to see how it was or if I wanted something else. So I did not feel totally ripped off, I sat for a while after I finished my soup to enjoy the view. I kept looking for my waiter for the check but he was nowhere to be found. I saw him off in the distance a couple of times but I could not grab his attention. So finally I asked somebody else to help me I was tempted to not leave any tip at all but I know these waiters make very little and so I gave him 10% which is cheap for me but he really did not deserve that! I left unsatisfied and disappointed and I cannot recommend this place to anyone else. They have been around for a long time and there were a lot of people there so either I ordered the wrong thing or people are not as discriminating as I am when it comes to Chinese food. After all, I grew up in New York and they have an amazing Chinatown with amazing food! The only redeeming factor was that is just a few minutes from the Palace of Fine Arts where I'm going tonight to see the Ballet Folklorico, which I heard is fantastic. Hopefully it'll take my mind off that lousy soup. Btw... Cost close to $10 which is the same thing I pay in the United States which is unusual for here. Most things are much cheaper. So much for Hong King. Sent from AOL on Android
