Scammy Practices, systems and behaviors SELLERS BEWARE. On first glance this is a simple, little retro game store with charm and all the vibes you want from a place like this. So I go there for the first time with the intentions of doing business. I call ahead tell them I have a small retro game collection I found in my storage unit and I'd like to sell it if they are interested. I drove over and bring the games in. I will show pictures of this collection. Including a working ps3 slim and about 30 games across various platforms (ps3, ps2, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox one). At 2 pm The clerk there told me she was the only one there and they had an event at 6 and need time to look through everything and can I come back later and leave the games here. No one in the store at the moment however... Ok sure. I ask if they will give me a receipt or voucher or something stating they have my collection and haven't paid for them yet. They tell me they are making an office waiver but don't have it yet..... ok so wtf. I'm supposed to just trust you people. But like I said it looked like a nice lil mom and pop store. I've run my own small business for a decade so I trusted they were above board and not going anywhere and I had already documented all the games so why not. Let's trust them to be professionals. She tells me I can come back tonight and she will call me when they are ready. 9pm close rolls around and no call yet... I wait the night and call at 1pm the next day. Same story. They aren't done yet. I say I'll call back later. They say nah we will call you. Literally. I wait till 8 pm again and now they call. They tell me the offer is $44 in cash or $60 in store. I say. WTF I estimated the value conservatively and with them Turing a profit in mind and had the whole collection at about $450. I'm a business owner and not new to commission businesses or wholesalers or buy and sell places. I do it myself. I know the basic ranges of things and market value. So I say f it. They are joking imma go get my games back since they aren't serious and have now wasted 2 days of my time I coulda took them somewhere else. Or EBay. I drive back now for the 2nd time. The lady there is the same and says oh here's your games, what do I wanna do. I decline the offer and ask why is so low. She says she doesn't know she didn't check them. Highly annoyed I just take the box and go. I get home and the next morning I go to list the games myself on eBay. I notice the highest priced game in the collection is missing.... Folklore for PS3. Easily valued at $80-$120 And these ppl wanted to give me $40 for the whole thing.... SCAM I double check to make sure the game hadn't fallen out in my trunk and that I'm not jumping to conclusions. I'm not. I go back to the store. Now my 3rd useless time wasting trip there. I finally meet the guy who did my product evaluation. I go in and immediately ask where my f'n game is and what are they playing at. I got a bs offer after you waste my time and now yall stealing my best game too. Dude says "oh the case was dirty and I was gonna clean it and forgot to put it back with the rest, I forgot to tell the last girl to give it back to you too, my bad"....... wtf. Sureeeeeee ok. Give me my stuff. I got it back and then asked him how he got to that nonsense offer and was told that's just how the system they use ranked the priced for each game. They didn't even really do any research themselves. SMH So I take my stuff home and in the first 5 min of listing the items on eBay I sell two (manhunt and RE4 GameCube) for more ($55) then the entire offer these rip off artist tried to give me. Don't sell anything to these ppl. Just go play D&D and leave. They didn't know this but I'm actually an influencer (600k YouTube , 400k ig, 300k Snapchat, etc) and I shoulda flamed them on line but I'll spare them this time. Check out the pic of the collection and let me know if you think $40 was a fair offer. I think not and very bad business on their end. Not professional at all. Way more worried about they table top nights then any actual customers or potential clients I guess. Oh well. I won't be going back. read more

From out of town and staying at a hotel on the harbor. Need 40 or so cards for some MTG decks I'm building so walked over to see if I can spend some money to support a LGS. Walk in and let the lady working the desk know I'm looking for some magic singles. Proceeds to hand me a QR code for their TCG store. Smaller store and they were running what looked to be a DnD event so no place to sit. No big deal. Ask if I could let her know what cards I am looking for instead so she could look them up as my deck list is on my phone and would take me quite awhile to go back and forth between apps seeing what they have. Lady behind the desk give me a 'if it's more than a couple of cards it really would be easier if you just looked them up.' Easier for who exactly? If I'm going to just go to TCG I'll find them cheaper from other sellers there and have them shipped and waiting for me when I get home from my trip. Always try to support the LGS wherever I am for work but my trips to Baltimore will have me avoiding Canton Games. I'll take an uber and my money out to Game Haven in Pikesville, Level up in Glen Burnie, or even bigger box Games and Stuff in Glen Burnie as they provide superior service with the increased prices of an LGS. read more

So I went to Canton Games the other day. The girl inside was pleasant, helpful, and took a genuine interest in finding me the die I wanted. I wanted a jumbo amethyst D20. Spoiler alert: they didn't have one, but that's nowhere near the problem. The problem is the steps. You see, my wife rides a wheelchair, and said steps physically prevented her from entering the store, a fact that usually sends us both elsewhere, but she told me to go in without her. I'm the one who told her the selection wasn't impressive - cause it wasn't. They didn't have the item I wanted after all. The problem is the ableist owner dan. Likely he avoids running afoul of the Americans with disabilities act with some claim about historicalness or something. Before anyone says that I could have asked for a ramp, begging for access isn't access. If your business is not PROACTIVELY accessible, you fail. He responded to Karley's review in what can only be described as condescending defensiveness about how she should come into a store that literally stripped that choice away from her. Well he succeeded in making absolutely certian that I AND none of my game group will ever darken their doorstep -the one with the "walking people only" entrance ever again. read more

What a great little store! I'm new to the area and found this place near Patterson Park and feel so lucky. They have tons of great stuff, especially for board games, D&D, and Magic. Many of their board games have "store-copies" opened so you can try before you buy (come on Saturday for more board game play). What I really loved was finding the Magic community here though - Friday nights and Sundays are all about MTG and the player community was super welcoming and kind to someone just getting started in the game. Everyone just plays to have fun and no one was mean to the new kid for not knowing what "scry" or "exiled" meant. Not only did I find a great game shop, I found some new friends! If the store does not have a specific game you are looking for they can often order it for you. Different staff have different gaming specialties too so someone can nerd out with you no matter what your gaming style is. read more

I definitely would have given this store a higher rating a year ago, but lately it seems like their game selection has really dropped off the map. They just don't have the depth of selection I would hope for, which is really a shame considering this is the only store in the city at least ostensibly dedicated to games. The owner is a nice guy and very helpful, but I don't think the store is really concentrating on games much anymore. I plan to go back some time soon to see if the situation has improved, and I really hope that it does. This city needs a dedicated game store. read more

Full disclosure: I am a nerd on many levels. I collect comic books, I have a shelf full of toys and I just got back into Magic: The Gathering. Yes I am an "adult" or so I'm told, but alas adulting is so hard. This is a local shop that is reminiscent of the days of old. It doesn't have that overbearing chain store feel or that creepy feel of a place that's trying to swindle you out of your hard earned monies. This is a spot for you to come together with your neighborhood gaming folks to commune with nerdom. Stopped by a few times and their prices are fair and they are very willing to help you with your purchases and card choices. In fact they even helped my buddy with some cards for his new deck that still got owned by me, but at least this time he did some damage. The store is small and it's not the tidiest, but it's kind of homely in a sense. There's a bunch of board games, trading card games and accessories aplenty. In the back there's some tables for gaming and they have different sorts of events on different days including Magic nights! Bring your EDH deck and have a blast. Nerd mode engaged. read more

My boyfriend and I were bored on a dreary Saturday afternoon. We have a comic book store we frequent, but it didn't have a whole lot of games. I was looking into some card games, and my boyfriend can't pass up action figures. We went there and were immediately greeted and helped by Dan. He asked us what games we've played and made recommendations on what we may like. The store is small, but it is stuffed to the gills with board games, card games of all types, action figures, Warhammer (there was probably more of this type, but I didn't look deeply), RPG books, Magic, Cthulu and about everything you can think of. I used to play Magic: The Gathering ten years ago (Ice Age!) and I've been really jonesing to play again while my boyfriend had never played it. Dan was happy to give us some free starter packs (30 basic cards of one color to learn the game -- he gave us one of each color) and recommended some theme packs to pick up. Overall, he was very friendly and inviting, telling us of events we could go to and just making us feel welcomed. The only problem we faced was parking, but this is pretty regular for Baltimore. This store is small, not very organized (Especially with the neighborhood USP packages blocking access to the bathrooms!) and has a serious gamer funk issue! The Owner low balls you on everything and uses different websites to get prices for the items he is trying to buy! Went in with a stack of games some NIB and he offered me 25 total in credit! I'm sorry I know you can't give top dollar but don't insult people with offers like that! He is also very whiny (if you look on this page you can see him complaining about a board game company offering coupons in the games that he stocks!) Overall my experience here has been quite negative and would not recommend "Baltimore's Best Game Store" to anyone I know I would have them drive to one of the better stocked, staffed and organized stores out of the city! read more

I love small businesses and often strive to shop locally, however after 2 attempts of shopping at Canton Games I'm feeling extremely disappointed. Today my husband I stopped in to check out some board games and purchase a gift for my nephew. We werent sure which games would better suit his needs since he is really in between that weird age range for board games (usually games are 8+ or 14+). Inevitably we decided to take our time pursuing the store to pick the right gift. While in the store, the cashier was talking to another guy (customer), having a casual conversation about magic the gathering. Usually perosnal conversation is not a big deal and doesn't bother me, but the dude working behind the register didnt even ask if we needed help or assistance in the 20-30mins we spent at the store. My husband and I spent those 20-30 minutes, walking back and forth, through the store, going back and forth between a couple of games, until we just decided we would get two. Now I totally understand that I could have easily asked the cashier for assistance, but it was difficult to get a word in edgewise because of the personal conversation he continued having. We finally chose our games and stood at the register behind the guy (customer) who was talking and the guy at the register continued to carry on conversation for abour a minute or so. It was getting extremely awkward that we werent even acknowledged. Once the guy at the register finally head motioned for the dude he was talking to to step aside, there was no personal interaction with us. He scanned our items, told us the total, and let us swipe our card. No conversation or inquiry, no "did you find everything you needed", just here's your total, and swipe your card. Once he handed us our games, there was no "thank you" or "have a nice day". My husband actually said, "yeah, have a nice day" and the dude at the register seemed taken aback and said , "oh yeah, you too." Maybe it's just my opinion, but I believe the point of going to a store is for the customer service, assistance (if its needed, which it was today), and the personal touch. It's totally more of a convenience for me to just swipe my card on amazon and have the game delivered to my house in the future; instead of having to search for parking, be treated like I'm non-existent, and be valued for only the swipe of a credit card at Canton Games. read more

This is a nice little shop right outside Fells Point. The workers are extremely friendly and it seems like there is always a game of some sort going on. This place specializes in MtG, board games, and vintage video games. They have a complete unique and awesome section of vintage board games, I have never seen anything like it. There is a smattering of other stuff, GW paint rack, t-shirts- heroclix, D&D, but definitely go there for the MtG and Boardgames. read more

This seems like a cool little store. I've only been here once when I went to buy an expansion for Settlers of Catan but they have a nice selection of products considering their size. The cashier who was working at the time was very friendly and helpful and prices were barely any higher than Amazon's. This is the kind of local business I enjoy supporting. read more

I ordered and paid for a game that was back ordered and waited over 2 months for it. Had not heard anything from the store by the estimated arrival date so I stopped in to ask. They told me it would be 2 more weeks. Ok, I'm patient. 3 days later I received a threatening voice mail that they had just received the shipment and would sell it to someone else if I didn't pick it up within the next 2 days. Mind you, I had already paid for it and this required that I take off early from work. I called the store and expressed my disdain for this lack of service and was told the owner would call me back. He never did. I am all about supporting local businesses, but please, THIS is why Amazon is defeating you. read more

Best, most thorough board game store in the area. Carrying the latest and greatest in board gaming (mostly Euro-style), with a wide selection of used games, as well. Their Saturday Open Gaming is awesome- you just show up, hang out with cool, casual and informative people, and play games. You can bring your own, choose from their demo/ used games, or play games other people have brought. Incredibly friendly environment, and is a great place to meet new friends and discover and develop a new hobby.
