I've ordered the soup, fish tacos, and urban bowl. Aside from being a touch too salty, the taco soup was delicious. The fish tacos were okay, except for the fact that they didn't add the pico de gallo, a huge NO-NO. I made the mistake of thinking that the urban bowl was going to be presented in a taco shell shaped bowl, but it's not in a tortilla bowl at all. It's all put into a rectangular styrofoam container. That was my error that I overlooked! Secondly, they skimped on the pico de gallo, and the avocado cream sauce, and I love my sauces! The "bowl" could have been better, but it was dry and had an overabundance of meat. You'll just have to examine your order very well and make sure they don't leave anything out.

Carniceria Valdez is literally a counter in the back of a Mexican grocery, but coming out of that kitchen is some mighty fine Mexican food. I went with a couple of tacos and a gordita. For the gordita, I went with chorizo as the protein and for the tacos I went with the asada and the barbacoa. The tacos were just under two dollars each ($1.99 to be exact) and the gordita was, I believe, $3.50. I probably enjoyed the gordita the most and the chorizo was definitely my favorite protein out of my three choices. The staff was friendly enough, though the ordering process was you walk up to the counter and order your meal and they call you up when it is ready. All in all, I would definitely recommend here and I will give it five stars.

We ordered blackened grilled chicken, grilled chicken pita and the filet mignon - yes, filet mignon - from a food truck. It was served over the most amazing homemade mashed potatoes - these weren't fried. The sauce that was poured on top was so good! This is not surprising - after all, Kendrick studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and his sauces are killer. His truck is on Old Fannin and it's easy to miss. He's on the West side of the road in an open field. Currently, it's not well lit but he's working on that. We got 3 amazing meals for just over $35. Talking with Kendrick and the other patrons was the icing on the cake. He is a passionate soul who appreciates his customers and works very hard for your business. Truly an amazing meal! The whole family commented that we felt it was one of the best things we've had to eat in a long time in the Jackson area.
