An employee at West Elm in D.C. highly recommended Cannon Upholstery to us, and we were not disappointed. Evelyn gave us a very detailed quote for reupholstering a bench cushion, with some different options, as well as for different pillow sizes we were considering. She was super patient with us as we pored over all the fabric sample books, and let us take 4-5 home, which was super helpful to test things out and sort of "live" with different fabric for a day or two before deciding. The bench turned out beautifully - Dave did a great job. And when I came to pick it up, I need some air in my car tires and asked if he knew where I could pump them up nearby and instead he brought out his air compressor and did all four of them for me right in front of the shop! I've had two pieces of furniture worked on at Cannon Upholstery-a large chair that needed reupholstering and a kitchen chair with a broken leg that needed repair. Both times, David Cannon was very friendly, explained the process, and finished the pieces when he said he would. After my father died in Europe I had one of his chairs sent to the US. It was an ugly microsuede brown but it reminded me so much of him and thus had great sentimental value. I took it to the shop and had it modernized with a wide rib corduroy. The end result surpassed my wildest dreams. It is so soft, so well made, and exactly as I asked. These guys are great. I had a couch needing three repairs: a cushion replaced, a recliner switch replaced, and the back had broken. I had the parts already. They wanted to take the couch for 2 weeks and I balked because we had a 7 month old that often lay on the couch beside us and without the couch, we had no good alternative. They agreed to come out the same day to estimate for on site work and did so. That's when owner David saw getting it out of my house would be very hard, too. They returned within a week to do the labor in less time than estimated and did work I can't complain about. David brought his deaf assistant, who accidentally knocked over a lamp and broke the bulb, but it's half my fault for not getting the cord out of there while they were working in my house. I got a vacuum and they cleaned it up I was very impressed with how accommodating they were regarding the baby situation. Between that and him having the deaf assistant he's been looking out for all these years, and how pleasant he was to talk to, etc., I went out of my way to come on here and write a review. If every company was like this, the world would be a different place. Honestly. read more

I just had my dining room table and two chairs repaired at Cannon Upholstery. David did a terrific job, and finished the job ahead of schedule (normally takes a few weeks and was done within a week). I recently had a chair re-upholstered at Cannon's and I can't recommend them highly enough. They finished the chair in just two days (I brought my own fabric so they were able to finish my chair while they waited for fabric to be delivered for other items) and it was very nicely finished. Their hours are a bit strange but Saturday mornings worked well for me so I didn't have a problem dropping my chair off or picking it up. read more

I brought in a mid-century, vinyl-upholstered chair for reupholstery with wool fabric; David did a fantastic job making it look like new. He stripped the chair and essentially rebuilt it from the bones up, preserving the rounded shell shape and original seaming patterns perfectly. The price was more than fair considering the amount of work involved, and the job was completed on time and right on budget. Recently sent our two leather sofas to Cannon to have the webbing replaced in the bases, various repairs made to rips which had occurred and to get all the back and base cushions re stuffed. It was great doing business,and was highly impressed by their operations procedure. They initially provided rough estimates via email based on photos and descriptions provided by myself, then confirmed a price once they had been collected and were able to assess them in person, but didn't proceed with the work till agreed. I also liked the fact I was given two options as to how the work could be done ( stuffing of the cushions). They arrived within the time slots given and were a pleasure to deal with. I was glad to have found Cannon because they were friendly and easy to work with. The cost of my repair was more than I expected but I had nothing else to compare it too. Evelyn and David are everything you could want in upholsterers. Friendly, helpful, courteous--they're perfect! I came in with an old Duncan Phyfe sofa that had lived through 3 generations of wear and tear before me. Evelyn was great at helping me find a fabric that fit my budget and the look I was hoping to achieve. She didn't rush me at all, though they have A LOT of books to go through! My fabric ended up being back-ordered, and she kept me apprised of it's progress. When the fabric was enroute, they picked up the sofa so that they could start working once it arrived. The sofa is beautifully done, with even tension and beautiful nail trim (no strips of nailheads here... I don't envy whoever hand-hammered each one in!). They even fixed a broken foot at a small additional cost. One thing I will say (and this is true of all good upholsterers), be prepared to pay for the work! Upholstery is a specialty business, and good work will not come cheap. Cannon's prices are fair and reasonable, especially for the quality of work they perform. read more

I purchased two antique armchairs chairs that required extensive work. They needed to be completely stripped to the frame, re-glued, and re-upholstered in a Cowtan & Tout zebra-striped velvet, with numerous tufts and nail heads. I obtained 3 estimates--2 from my previous upholsterers, one from Cannon Upholstery. Cannon's estimate was slightly less, although that was not the deciding factor. I emailed a long list of questions, appreciated their quick and thorough response, so chose them to do the work. As both the chairs and fabric were expensive, I was anxious to have every detail done precisely as I wanted. Both David and Evelyn were a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. A few weeks before pickup, David met with me at my home to make sure my chosen fabric was suitable, and to give me a yardage estimate. Evelyn and I corresponded extensively by email, and they helped me with all the details (type of cushions, finish for nail heads, tufting, etc). Evelyn invited me to visit the shop at two key points during the process. In addition, she emailed me numerous photos as the chairs were torn down and re-built. I am absolutely thrilled with the finished product, and every detail was exactly as I specified. Given the extensive labor involved, their attention to detail, and all the time they spent with me, the price was extremely fair. I got so much more for my money than with any previous upholsterer. David and Evelyn offer the old-fashioned, high quality customer service that is nearly impossible to find anymore. Their workmanship is of the highest quality, and it is obvious that their employees are happy. Cannon Upholstery is the 'gold standard', and I am so happy that I finally found them! read more
