My husband and I are long time members of this location. We have seen numerous managers come and go…read morebut whoever is the new manager is not up to the task. The gym has been disgusting since the last manager left. The drinking fountain is a cesspool. There is scaling and crud all over it. There is pink bacteria along the back rim of the fountain. Truly disgusting. There is mold in the bathrooms on the walls under the soap dispenser and under the hand dryer. The bathroom sinks are consistently dirty with dirt rings around the drain. The floor in the free weight room has not been mopped in months as there is dust and dirt everywhere. The purple turf is hardly ever vacuumed and there were several finger nails on the turf yesterday. Most machines and cardio equipment have not been dusted or washed in a long time. There is dried sweat and dust on almost all pieces of equipment. The machines used to be cleaned almost daily. The front lobby area looks like a homeless camp. There are empty bottles, shoes, clothes, and hats just left on the floor and in the cubbies. Whenever it snows, plan on the mats being absolutely saturated with water which makes it fun to change shoes. In the past, the manager would put a fan near the front door to dry the area for members. The dumb bell racks were moved in front of the mirrors. So, of course people stand directly in front of the rack and do their exercises preventing others from getting dumb bells. Lastly the volume on the speaker system is way too loud, even with my headphones in. Needless to say, we will be leaving the gym for other options. We are very disappointed with how quickly the condition of the gym went downhill.

I tried to call and get in touch with someone there to find a time to set up a meeting with a personal trainer. I was very excited and ready to start my powerlifting journey, and after seeing these positive reviews I thought this would be the place to do so. I called. Someone answered the phone, I didn't get his name, but he was chewing loudly in my ear the whole duration of the conversation. I asked for one of the owners/managing trainers and he said that no one was available. When I said I could call back later he told me "You don't need to." I hate to leave a bad review, especially considering it's my first review ever, but I'm quite fed up with not being taken seriously by gym owners, staff, and trainers. This was an incredibly disappointing experience.

I have had my eye on this place for a while as I travel pretty often to the Minneapolis area and have been looking for a gym just like this. Minneapolis has so many Anytime Fitness and Planet Fitness, which are not bad establishments, just not a place that fits my workout personality (i.e. "lunk alarms", no real heavy lifting and dumbbells that stop at 50#). Southside definitely provides the atmosphere to focus on your strength and lifting goals. Loved the gritty atmosphere of "go in and get it done, no excuses". The main gym is awesome and has a ton of speciality bars, racks, DBs that go up to 150 and platforms specifically for oly lifting only plus other platforms for powerlifting. I came in around 3-4:30 and was one of the only there...so no issue whatsoever of having the run of the place. Honestly I wish that there was a place like this in Omaha. Will back for sure next time here.

They walked me through exactly what I needed, what to expect, they wrapped my hands for me, and came over during class to help me put on the gloves. The instructor (while intense) was great. He broke each move down on what it should look like. It felt like a good balance of beginner level content and helpful pointers for regulars. I left the workout feeling sweaty, but accomplished. A boxing class is honestly cheaper than therapy.
