I went to Dr. Cannon due to his good reviews and familiarity with autoimmune disorders. My entire family is in the medical field and my sister has been very sick for a long time, so it is not surprising for me to have advanced medical knowledge on certain subjects, my health especially being one of them. My dad is a doctor, so I know how annoying patients can be when they self diagnose or pretend to know more than they actually do. The appointment took no longer than 30
minutes and I had waited over 8 months for it. I had an idea of what I might have and my entire medical professional family agreed on it. I went to Dr. Cannon to get his opinion and confirm my suspicions, in which, I was correct. I suspected Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which he told me, "you don't look like you have EDS." There are 15+ types and only one has a specific look, so how is he to say that I "don't look like it", when it is mostly an invisible illness? He was very impatient and just acted like he wanted to leave the room, as most doctors are not used to having an educated patient contradict them. He did a short mobility test, which I have always known that I was hypermobile, and concluded I had "Joint Hypermobility Syndrome" and swore up and down I did not have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. We probably argued for 10 minutes about why I did not have EDS, all of his reasons made no logical sense. He gives me a big information packet on Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, and literally on the front page it says "most experts believe that Hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is Joint Hypermobility Syndrome... in fact, they are indistinguishable." He literally did not even read his own packet he sends out to patients. Dr. Cannon is one of those doctors that is there to collect the money and move on, he is not compassionate about his patients and was very rude to me when I said I did not fully agree with his diagnosis. He did not want to answer my questions and was basically just trying to get the appointment over with. He did offer to come back and see me when my joints were swollen, which makes no sense because he is booked out months in advance and in the end his diagnosis was technically correct. I feel like I am more educated on a simple connective tissue disorder than a damn specialist on it. He is outdated on information and youd think that EDS is so common, he would know the basics of it, but nope. If you're going to be waiting a long time for an appointment with him, don't; complete waste of time and money. read more
