I brought my old Honda Element in to get the windshield washer fluid pump replaced. They figured out it was just loose wiring, not a defective pump. I went in for an inspection in December. No masks on anyone in the building. The inspection tech was in and out of the car. No wipe down at all. No COVID protocols at all. While I was waiting in the small waiting room the person in the office was laughing with another tech about how stupid a customer was. The inspection tech told me that if a car comes in late for inspection, he looks extra hard for something to fail but if they're in on time, he'll pass stuff like a tail light or blinker light out "cause it's a real pain in the ass to get you hands in on some cars to change the bulb" I'll never go there again. read more

I called they said it was first come first serve 7 AM to four for a MA inspection sticker. Moving the vehicle from California Massachusetts this is my first experience there was one person ahead of me when I arrived they took me right in after 10 minute wait was done in 10 minutes cost is $35 for the sticker and $10 for two lightbulbs that failed and I was done. Went in to get car inspected and first thing I noticed was how poor the attitude was with the mechanic that was about to inspect our vehicle. Very rude and off putting. I understand people can have bad days, but if I ever acted like that at my place of business I would get fired. After pulling in to get the car inspected I was told that it was going to fail due to "low tread" on the tires (all tires had 5/32nds and over). Went and Googled MA inspection laws and found out that safety inspection calls for 2/32nds to pass. Will never go back to Canning's again. I'd rather drive through Cape traffic to Hyannis to get my car inspected, or anything else mechanically done for that matter, than go to this place again. read more

Went in for an inspection sticker, and was told they needed $600 to fix a windshield wiper sprayer and a headlight. I went somewhere else and got it done for free. Read the laws about car inspections as well and didn't even see anything about headlights being a requirement. Total rip off. read more

Canning's is BY FAR the best place around to take your car in my opinion. The Toyota dealership in Hyannis had my car all day and couldn't figure out why my airbag light was on, took it to Canning's and they had it figured out fairly quick. While I cant speak for these 1 Star reviews, Canning's saved me thousands! Great bunch over there, I would definitely recommend them as your first stop! read more

The owner of Canning's - Dan is unreliable as a mechanic so I would recommend that you think twice before taking your car to him especially if it happens to be new or European. Diagnosing a simple Spark Plug problem was going to take him a week - "it's not as easy as changing a light bulb" he quoted, I wasn't sure of his patronizing attitude because he was addressing my girfriend or it's because that's his attitude in general. Anyway it did take less than 5 minutes to rectify that particular problem with my car (not at his shop) - I won't be going back there in a hurry. read more

Beware! This station takes advantage of people during the car inspection process. They claimed my emergency brake was loose in a 2011 Honda Accord (automatic) and when I asked them to adjust it, they said I needed new rear calipers at a cost of $550.00! I've spoken to several auto professionals and they assured me the calipers have little to do with the emergency brake adjustment. The adjustment is located under the center console in that model Honda Accord. Regardless, the major issue is once they quoted me $550 to replace the calipers I pulled the vehicle and replaced the calipers myself just to appease them (Easy to do yourself) This apparently irritated them to the point that once I returned the vehicle they claimed one of the brand new calipers I just put in was faulty or bad and I insisted THEY replace it, again costing me more money. I finally gave in a let them bilk me for about $350 to get this nightmare over with. The emergency brake adjustment failure is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to MA state inspections, you can ask around. It's the only test they preform that's hard to contest and it's totally their discretion. These scammers were irritated that I wasn't going to just hand over $550.00 to have them put a sticker on my car. I wholeheartedly believe I was scammed. If you do some google searches about this station you see that others have had similar experiences with these guys. Avoid at all costs!!! read more

Rick is the manager and Dick Canning is the owner. They are a family-run business that I have been dealing with for years. I have never found any reason not to expect the best in service and repair. What I like are the loaner cars that they let me use. I hold them to a high level of my satisfaction and they have not let me down yet. read more

Two thumbs down. Went in for an inspection sticker told inner tie rod gone, wouldn't pass. (Gentlemen who inspects vehicles is sincerely nice but NOT a mechanic.) Made an appt for Tie Rod & Alignment quoted $289. Picked up car next am, bill was $452., when I asked Rick why so high he said oh well the outer Tie Rod broke too. (No prior phone call to me informing me of this) I could have gone any where for repair, I wanted to stay local even though quote was high. It wasn't until I called Rick back to express my displeasure did he apologize for not calling first. I work for a family owned service business, I always call customer if repair higher than quote. It's just good business to call customer with a change. I felt unappreciated and upset the bill was larger. If I was told before I would have felt appreciated and returned with more business. I can neither recommend or patronize Cannings Service Center. read more

I've dealt with them a few times before but never again. Service is expensive, but I can live with that. Today I went in for an inspection sticker and Skinny (that's his nickname) was just a rude jerk! He's always a bit gruff, but I can live with that too. Today he went off on me for absolutely no reason. I asked how long it would be (nicely - with a smile), and he went on a rant about his age, how hard he works, what time he got in etc, etc. That was it for me - I'll go elsewhere from now on. read more

I have had good experiences with Canning's for auto repair. My old minivan recently needed a new air conditioner condenser and we were afraid it would put our car out of commission for a good while and cost a bundle. After shopping around, we chose Canning's for the job. The mechanic fixed my van in a reasonable amount of time and for a fair price. They even offered us a loaner car (which we didn't need, but still!) I would definitely recommend them. read more

I can't say enough about the service at Canning's in East Sandwich. I rented a nearby cottage and my battery died. I would not have been able to get around without a car.
