A friend of mine recommended this place to get my dog groomed and bathed. I took my dog in here for the first time about four months ago for grooming and I take them in every week for a bath. He's a Tibetan terrier which means he has a lot of hair, and it is a little bit difficult to manage. Charles and his staff do a fantastic job of leaving him looking so handsome. Yea... I'm going to be a huge downer right now, but if you can't be honest on Yelp, where can you be honest. IN fact, that's why I'm here.. because I can be honest. I brought my boy to La Jolla because the groomers in PB scared me... because they're in PB.. and they'd probably be stoned 21 year olds who can't cut a dog's hair. But.. things didn't go quite as I'd planned. The guy who runs the place is very sweet, and seems to really care a lot about the dogs. However, my experience did not go so well....... : Picked my boy up when he was done. Took him home. Noticed his eye had blood in it, everywhere it was supposed to be white. This happens when dogs struggle on the grooming table and the thing around their neck cuts off their circulation. I get that. BUT my dog weighs 5 pounds.. and every groomer I've ever brought him to says how good he is, and that he just stands there. HE does NOT struggle. There is no reason this should have happened to him. I did notice there's only one person working there sometimes (maybe all the time, I don't know). WHen I came in, a dog was left standing on the table in the back. I'm no groomer, but... I'm pretty sure you don't ever leave a dog on the table. That's how they hang themselves. This makes me really nervous, just in general. It cost me $85 to get his eye looked at and get him ointment for it. So if you add $85 to the $35 I paid...and then consider the panic I went through.. it's a little too much for me to go back. read more

Our Doberman gets his nails trimmed here everytime. It is so nice to be able to just walk in without an appointment and have his nails trimmed in less than 5 minutes. Found out about this place on Yelp. We took a chance and got my wife's Maltese haircut here. She is very picky and particular about how he is cut. It is the best haircut the dog has every had. Our dog was still happy when we picked him up, he has never been like that before anywhere else. A+ all the way around. We have 2 Shih-Tzu and 1 boarder collie mix, all go to Canine Coiffure every few months for a full grooming. Charles knows and cares for all of them - he is great with each one, keeps records of prior requests (he knows ours without asking). We get simple puppy cuts, so nothing special. But I've seen show quality stuff going out the door many times. He is busy and it's not a huge place, so you might need to wait a few days to get a slot. Don't let the name and the La Jolla Boulevard address throw you. It's in North PB, just below Bird Rock. The place isn't fancy, but it is clean. Worth it without a doubt. Prices are very reasonable, a bargain when you consider the total experience. read more

Charles is THE best! He LISTENS as long as you feel like talking and then does exactly what you want. He genuinely cares about your pet. Truly, seriously cares. You can see it in the way he hold the animals, talks to them, catches on to their mood and adjusts to help the animal know they're in good hands. Both my parents and I live in Bankers Hill and we drive into Pacific Beach/La Jolla to take our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (dogs that definitely need an excellent groomer!!) to him every month. It has taken me some time to sit here and write this.... I was so angry since there was nothing I could do..... I have a wonderful little 3.5 lb Maltese and went in and met Charles, we chatted for about 30 mins...I was told she would be done in about 3 hours. I come back and from GO something was off... the personable Charles wasn't acting like before.. maybe he was busy.. maybe he was stressed.. ok... that's fine.. let's see my beautiful little dog.. He goes in the back and brings her out.. She is set of the counter.. she's standing there stiff as a board making grunting noises.. NOTE- she is the most lovable, happy, playful dog... this is not like her... maybe she got stressed out... this is where the red flag went up that something happened.. Charles then tells me.. he's going to give me a 50% off discount because "she was so good".... NOTE: I've never paid under $55 for her... ever.. and she's always "good".. I was a bit confused about the whole interaction.. I left the shop (I tried walking her out of the shop but had to carrier her since she didn't want to walk)..I sat in my car looking at my dog.. listening to her grunt...something was wrong. I listened to my gut and took her directly over to my vet. ** After a full exam and Xrays, I was told she had a compressed spine from being dropped. She could become paralyzed. After 3 MONTHS (no joke- 3 months) of being completely drugged/ immobilized she was able to leave the house. *** I UNDERSTAND *THINGS* HAPPEN, BUT YOU ALWAYS NEED TO BE HONEST. If I didn't take her to the vet she could been completely paralyzed or dead. Charles behavior is disgusting and weak. read more

I love this place! I am very picky about my "dog care" and I dropped off my Berner and she was returned a sparkling model of a dog! For the price it is a deal! We have been having flea problems and I called to make sure they do flea baths. Charles was nice enough to suggest that steam cleaning works alot better than bombing (which is good to know cuz poisoning my house didn't sound appealing). He said his dogs were getting fleas too, which is good to hear so I don't feel like a leper dropping off my fleabag. read more

I took both my dogs too, Charles. Both were matted and needed some work. One of my dogs is older and is not the easiest dog to groom. Charles took his time with her and gave her one of the best cuts she's ever had. The price was incredibly reasonable (and I have to confess, in a dimwit moment, I completely forgot to leave a tip! - Sorry Charles! We will be back, and we'll get you back!).
