The clerk did not look up from her computer but said the pool was being serviced and they had no idea if and when it would be fixed. I didn't see anyone working on the pool. Since they have a summer camp in session, it would be great if the pool was operational. There is a really nice set of tennis courts (12ish). There is green space for football and a baseball diamond. A nice set of workout equipment from the Colts seems in need of a good cleaning. I was excited to find a boat ramp with parking area. This area needs to be cleaned and patrolled. The River access site is beautiful. The park offers free daily lunches to those in need and also provides summer camps. I found these resources valuable to the community. I was really surprised to find the park not pristine and vibrant for 4th of July holiday. The flagpoles were even empty.

Within a few steps of this park you'll find several shops and restaurants in downtown historic Zionsville including My Sugar Pie, The Salty Cowboy and Lemon Bar to make a few. We walked to the park so I didn't see what the parking situation was but I did notice that they are dog friendly. I can imagine this park is packed with activity during the warmer months. The park is open from dawn to dusk. Next door to the park you'll find a large green space with a paved trail that weaves its way along the river.

The fields have dugouts and some nice picnic table areas between them. The are lighted and better than average. The complex is named after Chuck Klein AKA the Hoosier Hammer. Klein played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates and led the National League in home runs four times, and won the NL Most Valuable Player Award in 1932. What you may not know is that there is a football field buried behind the softball fields, hence its real name, Chuck Klein Sports Complex. The football field needed a good mowing when I was there and the goal post are adequate. They will get the job done. I really like the patio area in the complex building that is up high and overlooks the fields. There are tables and chairs up there. At the front of the complex, near the entrance is a shelter with picnic tables. Next to the shelter is a horseshoe pit that has seen better days. In addition to that, there is some huge green space surrounding the shelter. You can do a lot of outdoor activities there. So, you do not need to actually be playing an organized sport to enjoy the park. This is a nice place to host a softball tournament or league. They have also hosted rugby, cricket and ultimate frisbee. I visited the park off season, and they were still working on the complex's maintenance. The staff here is awesome as well.

Along my travels, I encountered the Randy Shambaugh Baseball Park. Under the authority of Indy Parks, Shambaugh Park offers five varying sized baseball/softball diamonds and is historically the host of Eagledale Little League. The park appears to be quite small until you start looking around and realize that it's quite a bit larger, though parking is strangely lacking. It sits right next to a church. You've seen me write before about my concern with Indy Parks - they build and develop wonderful parks, however, far too often allow them to fall into disrepair. This park reminds me of one that's fairly close to my house (though actually mine is much worse). There's a concession building and there seem to be other buildings here, however, it's a little set to the back of a neighborhood and, to be honest, felt a little unsafe. I honestly can't imagine letting my child wonder to the park due to its isolated location - there was a vehicle sitting off to the side in the park and it just felt weird. While I realize we're not in baseball season, thus I wouldn't expect the park to be in tip-top shape, it felt very worn to be and just didn't look great. As a matter of note, the park is named after Randy Shambaugh (I bet you knew that) - a community leader who died at age 53 in 2011 after a long battle with Huntington's Disease. He was the youngest person ever elected to the Speedway Town Council.

The ground is covered in mulch. Covered seating is available. The playground is fenced so that kids don't wonder. A large covered pavilion near the parking lot with picnic tables offers seating. The pavilion is available on a first come basis, unless there is a church activity. A baseball diamond and soccer fields are also available on a first come basis. The land for the park was donated to the community by Parkside Bible Church, so it is not surprising that there is a Christian vibe throughout the park. The playground was built by local volunteers. The graveled parking lot holds dozens of cars. Portable potties are available at the park. The park is a great place to connect with nature, walk the dog or let the kids play.

We have another awesome park in Brownsburg!…read more This park has everything and more of what I'm looking for on a day out with my kids: a toddler section with age appropriate equipment for my small kids, musical equipment like a large xylophone and drums, swings, and a big playground for bigger kids. And! It is completely enclosed - which is perfect cause my two year old is a runner. I only got to enjoy the playground but, looking around, I noticed there is also a disc golf course, a walking trail, and a fishing pond. There was even a garden area a ways off from the playground - I made a mental note that it would be a perfect place to come for some time by myself, maybe with a book. Some nearby parks are too secluded so I don't feel comfortable going alone - but this garden looked close enough to the playground to make me feel not totally alone but far enough away for some quiet privacy. In short, I am definitely adding this to our park circulation.

The trail made for an easy breezy walk, and today's weather was perfect because it was not too hot and not too cold. The ambiance is super green and nature-filled with water and bridges, making it a peaceful spot to unwind and reset. There's convenient parking near the trail along with shelters that have grills and picnic tables, which would be great for a family cookout or chill afternoon outdoors. One thing I really liked was that parts of the trail have little off-path areas carved out so you can walk closer to the creek/water, which added to the relaxing nature vibe. I was able to walk through it, but since it's been raining, it was a little more muddy than I cared for. If you're looking for a simple but really enjoyable spot to get outside, clear your mind, and enjoy some fresh air, check this spot out.

Fake, short pitching mounds thrown down for baseball. Infields are all dirt, and it's very apparent during rains the dirt is washed down the central storm drain. County storm water protection program must be optional. $10 weekend admission for this event. "No cooler" rule. There is an indoor snack bar with seating. The usual food is available: hot dogs, pizza, chips, pretzel and cheese. Surprisingly the snack bar has a beer sales license. Bud Light and Lime-A-Ritas. As if!

Several coolers of beer and non-alcoholic drinks lined the VIP area and we also had access to a full bar. Bags of peanuts and cracker jacks were laid on the tables and a freezer held dippin' dots. Later we received coupons for soft serve ice cream. A section of seats was available to our group to watch the game; however, we could see from our VIP section. Overall the staff were friendly. They oversaw the coolers and bars, and we were regularly ID'ed.

We ended up at Victory Field last night in the most unexpected way! We were actually on our way to…read morethe Garth Brooks concert when we ran into a man who had two extra tickets to the game. His grandfather was being honored for his connection to the Negro Leagues, and he told us that his grandfather had even thrown out the first pitch at Victory Field a few years ago--while in a wheelchair. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to be there for such a special moment. We only had a short time before we needed to head to the concert, so we went in specifically to see the tribute and experience a little bit of the stadium. Even though we weren't there for an entire game, I'm really glad we got the chance to visit. Congrats Bill Owen's and family! One thing I loved was how much Victory Field embraces and honors the history of the team and the people who helped shape baseball. There was so much excitement and genuine support throughout the stadium, and it was really special to see the crowd come together to honor someone's family history. The location was also incredibly convenient for us. The stadium was directly across from our hotel, so it couldn't have been easier to get to. What started as a random encounter on our way to another event turned into a really meaningful experience. We were honored to be able to support this man and his grandfather, Bill Owen's, and witness a small but incredibly special piece of Victory Field's history. Sometimes the unexpected parts of a trip end up being the memories you remember the most.

Met up here with friends for lunch yesterday and had a great time. They have a drink/dessert case near the register that had some tasty looking dessert options (lemon cake, matcha cheesecake, beignets, macarons), but I didn't try any during my visit. I ordered a 24oz iced banana bread latte with almond milk, a turkey and gouda toastie (a fancy grilled cheese), and a side of kettle chips. One friend also ordered the turkey and gouda with extra turkey and our other friend ordered a different toastie with a cup of tomato soup and a sweet tea. We all really loved our lunch, with one friend saying she liked her sandwich more than the last cafe spot we met up at. The food took longer than I would have thought to come out, but it was because the group next to us had ordered food right before we came in and we hadn't realized. They also forgot my side of kettle chips, but I just walked back up to the register to ask them for it. Loved that they offer a 24oz size for iced coffee, so I'll definitely be stopping in here again soon! They have order forms at the register to build your own charcuterie board to eat there or take to-go. I definitely want to come back to do that- it would be the perfect snack to have at a park picnic.
