On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Frisco PetsMart on Preston Road held an adoption event where, right away, my Mom and I fell in love with Addie. We were drawn to her for some reason, and we knew right then, we needed to do the full adoption. A few days prior, we were informed that my Aunt was not doing well and we would most likely be out of the country for about two months. I e-mailed Yvette, the president of Lost Paws Rescue Organization, if she would be able to keep Addie with her until we returned (August 9th) and she agreed. When I met Yvette in person to pick up Addie at PetsMart on Saturday, August 15th, she was so sweet and pleasant to talk to. Thank you for leading us to Addie. We are head over heels in love with her. She is currently enrolled in training classes. She does well on a leash now and is slowly coming out of her shell after having adapted to our home environment.

The adoption process was very easy and more thorough than my previous experiences with animal shelters (SA animal control did not care about anything at all). They seemed a little confused on whether he had a respiratory infection (he didn't), but you are given all medical /behavioral notes they have at checkout so you 100% know what's going on when you leave. They were nice enough to give us free shampoo, conditioner, and food. It was a very good experience and we feel blessed to add another crazy guy to our household!

I could not find any bull terriers here in Albuquerque so I started looking at rescues on the net. I found Maybell's and contacted her. She was wonderful. We talked on the phone and via email and about a week and a half later I drove out to Dallas to get my Rocky. Rocky had been used as a bait dog and had numerous injuries that Maybell's provided veterinary care for as well as a safe place to recover both physically and emotionally from this abuse. Thanks to her this wonderful little dog was saved. For that I'm so grateful to her. May was not only able to provide a medical history for Rocky but was also able to tell me about his personality. She had taken the time to get to know him. I came back to New Mexico with a wonderful dog and very confident that we were a good fit. Since that first experience May has helped get several New Mexico dogs into rescue. I am always amazed by the resources she can muster when a dog needs help.

But this place by far is one of the better places; it's clean; workers are constantly cleaning the habitats; the animals overall were active and not in "comatose" "depressed" state as I've seen before at other places. For the most part a lot of the habitats were very large with lots in them; so that was refreshing. I saw a ton of cats I've never seen. I think tigers are beautiful; however I was really in awe of the Lion, Lambert and then the Servals! They were just amazing. They had tigers, ligers, lions, servals, bobcats, cougars, etc. my kids really enjoyed it as well as my husband and I. The memorial wall was touching; and the gift shop is decent. I did find out they offer a feeding tour in the evenings and that's something we may check out in the future. All in all it was a great experience for us.
