By 1920, the park had a swimming pool, a ball diamond, and a bandstand. The community center was built in the 1930s. Tennis courts were added in the 1960s. Today, it has picnic shelters, a playground, baseball field, football/multipurpose fields, and a paved walking/jogging path, over 6 acres. It's a cute neighborhood park, surprisingly unbusy on a Saturday afternoon, but well worth a brisk summer walk.

Located right next to a preschool, it is well-maintained and offers a lit football field, baseball diamond, playground, picnic tables, and an asphalt path that runs around the parameter of the park. There isn't really anything particular about this park that would cause me to visit it deliberately, unless I was looking for a place to kick around a soccer ball or something like that. But it's a nice addition to the neighborhood, and I always find it heartening to discover another green space in the city.

It also has this old as heck tree that's protected with bricks that I'm dying for the story of. This park is POPULAR. The parking lot was full. After our third drive around the block, we finally got a spot. It was almost impossible to get a picture without children in it. This makes sense- if you are a kid and it's a hot summer day, why WOULDN'T you want to put on your bathing suit and come up to this splash park? I was jealous that I hadn't brought my own!

Facilities include a grassy soccer field, a baseball diamond, a playground, and three basketball courts. The Kirkpatrick Community Center located right next door and the big ol' shade trees by the soccer field are the most notable parts of the park. Kirkpatrick is a big park in a residential neighborhood that includes a large apartment complex, so it could be a great resource for residents who don't have their own backyard. But it seems to me that the space could be better utilized by adding some picnic tables, benches, and maybe even a tennis court. Also, the fence surrounding the perimeter makes me think that whoever is in charge of the park is trying to keep someone out, which doesn't exactly encourage me to feel welcome or spend time there.

The park is clean and well maintained. A good portion of the green space is designed to let water runoff from the main road travel through, so there are lots of gullies and indentions in a good portion of the green areas. There is still a decent area that allows for grass play without issue. There are no public facilities or dedicated parking. You have to find parking in one of the nearby business lots. Overall, it is a no-frills public space with an interesting history, that happens to be wedged between businesses, hotels and a Whataburger. Solid 3.5 for a public space and a spot to enjoy a leisurely walk close to all the action of Brentwood.

On a sunny weekend afternoon, we nearly had the park for ourselves and the traffic on adjacent Maryland Way is not too noticeable thanks to the topography of the park. (Although there wasn't much traffic since it was a Sunday. Traffic noise might be more noticeable during a busy weekday.) Given the amount of wealth coursing through Brentwood, I think the city (or perhaps some private sponsors) could spruce up the park a little. Many of the exercise stations have faded signs/instructions or seem to have pieces missing. And it might be nice if there were a picnic table or two in addition to the two benches. My biggest gripe is probably the fact that there is no obvious place to park. We parked in an unmarked lot that was nearby the park, but there was no connecting pathway to the park itself. It wasn't a big deal for us to scramble up and down a couple of short grassy hillsides, but I can imagine it being an issue for some other folks. I did like the interpretive sign explaining the history of the Maryland Farms area, which was apparently a 400-acre horse farm until the 1970s!

I had the lamb chops on top of chimichurri sauce, which was a great way to serve because you get to decide how much sauce. The lamb chops could have had the fat trimmed a bit pre and they were slightly overcooked but not enough to send back. Just a note to the kitchen. My 2 sides were loaded Brussels sprouts and they were cooked perfectly. I also had the cowboy corn sauce, which was delicious. My husband had a burger, which was a 5/5. Roll was great and completely prepared to his order. Drinks were delicious - I had the Coco Melon. Nick had beer. We definitely will be coming back.

This does seem like the neighborhood hot spot for dog bathrooms breaks so watch your shoes while running around in the field.
