It is a serious health safety concern when you have mold growing on your food products. You endanger your customers' health. The pistachio piece I'm posting a photo of, is the one that has mold on it. You can't see it but you can absolutely taste it. Scary. P.S. It is family owned and operated since year 1925. Schmidt's Confectionery has been on my Yelp bookmarks for what I felt like an eternity. Previously, I have attempted to patronized during the summer, but it is closed for the summer months partly due the heat and humidity which affects working with ingredients and not optimal temperatures. It is easily accessible via MTA NYC Transit elevated J train on Jamaica Avenue at Woodhaven Boulevard station in Woodhaven, Queens, NYC. However, I walked forty (40) minutes from my home to this business. Upon entering the atmosphere has a redolent chocolate aroma with history and tradition which is intoxicating. There are chocolate lollypops, chocolate covered fruit, nuts, truffles, caramels, but I was hoping for chocolate covered strawberries. I abhor caramel. I despise nuts (despite not allergic). I like truffles. I like thin mints, chocolate covered graham crackers and have a predilection for plain solid milk chocolate. I actually taste the handmade and homemade decadence concoction of milk chocolate. It did tasted fresh and too good to give it away as a gift which I ended up consuming entirely! One night I bought a beer, a lotto ticket, and a pack of smokes which came out to $16. I paid the gentleman behind the counter with a $100 bill and then walked home with said survival gear. The next morning I woke up to go to work and noticed i was short money. I was short $84 to be exact! I walked to the store and asked the daytime guy if the nighttime guy had found some money on the floor. He said no and advised me to call the nighttime guy after 2pm. He said, "If you did leave it here, Mr. Bobby will have it. Last time a customer left a $2000 winning ticket on the counter and he returned it...." At 2pm I called Mr. Bobby and he confirmed that he did have my money and for me to stop by to pick it up. Later that evening I went to the store and there he was with my change. He told me that I gave him the $100 bill and just walked out and went home. I guess since I was so tired from a 12+ hour shift and had my headphones on, I couldn't hear him calling me. 5 stars....Don't question it....
