Nostalgia brews a small local confectionary shop. Suddenly, I am now a five year old little girl…read moreas my eyes are delighted elated with wonderment to see all things chocolate and sweets displayed in the wooden glass case. Surely, my eyes are bigger than my stomach (including wallet). I have always been gravitated to old establishments where there is a long history, period atmosphere decor and the charm. It is family owned and operated since year 1925. Schmidt's Confectionery has been on my Yelp bookmarks for what I felt like an eternity. Previously, I have attempted to patronized during the summer, but it is closed for the summer months partly due the heat and humidity which affects working with ingredients and not optimal temperatures. It is easily accessible via MTA NYC Transit elevated J train on Jamaica Avenue at Woodhaven Boulevard station in Woodhaven, Queens, NYC. However, I walked forty (40) minutes from my home to this business. Upon entering the atmosphere has a redolent chocolate aroma with history and tradition which is intoxicating. There are chocolate lollypops, chocolate covered fruit, nuts, truffles, caramels, but I was hoping for chocolate covered strawberries. I abhor caramel. I despise nuts (despite not allergic). I like truffles. I like thin mints, chocolate covered graham crackers and have a predilection for plain solid milk chocolate. It is run by a woman who is the granddaughter of the founder albeit welcoming and helpful. I would surely return again for chocolate lollypops, chocolate money coins. I do hope Schmidt's have chocolate hearts. At first sight, I could not decide since everything was very enticing and alluring too good. I decided cherry cordials. She shown me a mid-size box of approximately twenty (20) pcs priced $30.00, which I asked if there is a smaller box as a option available followed by she asked if I want either dark, milk or white chocolate type. Oh! Someone who finally listens and heed the hope within my mind, WOW! Customer service is attentive and a personalized shopping experience. She gifted the box with mediocre curling ribbons which I have worked in a high-end retail specialty paper store and trained to use either double-sided satin or organza ribbons - never used curling ribbons. She did distributed a sales receipt. There is a scale if customers were to purchase by the pound. Business cards are available for grabs which is now part of my business card collection in a shoe box. Cherry cordials, box of 8 pcs, $10.00 I was completely sold for this small box. I actually taste the handmade and homemade decadence concoction of milk chocolate. It did tasted fresh and too good to give it away as a gift which I ended up consuming entirely! I delightfully enjoyed my cherry cordials with half a glass of white wine. Wooho! The stems from the cherries are visible. This candy store is certainly reminiscent of earlier times frozen in place. As time is fleeting, I hope Schmidt's Confectionery will continue to operate indefinitely.

There's so many handmade chocolates and gift boxes to choose from. They even have cute stocking stuffer treats for Christmas! The girl who helped us out was kind and made us a 1/2 lb. assortment of popular milk and dark chocolate on the spot. $15 is a total steal for delicious handmade chocolate. We are definitely coming back and trying out more stuff!

You're getting high quality fruit, nuts and chocolate. Located on Austin, and a nice size location, the staff let me wander aimlessly around on my most recent visit. Everything was kept neat and the staff asked if they could help, but wasn't pushy at all. Again I could have EASILY left with over $100 worth of treats. I wanted to created my own gift box with their easily do it yourself set up they had. A whole bag of dried pineapple sounded lovely too. This time around, I only bought a bar of regular Dubai chocolate for the fam to try. They've been hounding me about it. There was a special happening, 3 bars for $50. I opt'd just for one at $20. I want to see if the fam would like it first. I'll prob be back before we know it to make my own trail mix.

Very easy to get via several buses that stop on and around Metropolitan Avenue. Every time I've come here I've always been warmly greeted and offered a free chocolate. They give you a choice between dark, milk and white. They have so many different kinds of items. Not just chocolate. Candy, hot/cold drinks, ice cream, etc. Some of the items are pretty pricey. Like the boxes of chocolate, but believe me, it is worth EVERY cent. They do have a shelf of discounted chocolate items. Its the last shelf in the back on the right-hand side. It'll have previous holiday chocolates for half price. Last week I got a chocolate flag for only $4.25. It was still fresh and delicious. Their stuff is so good that even just a simple milk chocolate Valentines heart on a stick is satisfying delicious. They have chocolate covered Oreo's and Twinkies. Everything is handmade and you can tell! Don't forget to sign up for their rewards. You get 1 point for every dollar you spend. Once you reach 250 points, you get a $25 gift card. If you pay in cash your order will come out to less as well. I look forward to my next visit. The friendly service and dynamite chocolate will always keep me coming back!

My appetizer and entree were hot when they arrived to the table. I enjoyed my menu choices especially the buffalo wings because they are one of my favorite foods. Our server Vivi was absolutely amazing and constantly checked on our table to make sure we were okay. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. It was decorated for Valentine's Day which was cute. My friend enjoyed her birthday at Sugar Factory and stated she will be back soon. The Sugar Factory candy store is located next to the restaurant. Photos of celebrities who visited various Sugar Factory locations adorn the walls. Candy galore for the sugar lovers.

They kept replaying the same songs. Both times that I dined here there have been numerous birthday gatherings throughout the restaurant. The staff brings out what appears to be ice cream with fire sparklers and sing happy birthday. It's a good place to hold large gatherings of people. We ordered the calamari to start. These did not taste good. They needed more black pepper and some were very chewy. It would make sense to cut up the included peppers instead of providing two whole peppers. They should put a different dipping sauce with them. The marinara sauce did not go well with them and the marinara sauce could be improved upon in general. All of my dinner party ordered the steak frites - 12 oz ribeye with signature fries. The dish also comes with a side Caesar salad, and Hawaiian sweet rolls with a side of cinnamon-honey butter. I ordered my steak medium and it came out medium which I was pleased about. The steak tasted good. Given that we ordered from the steak frites section of the menu I expected for the steak to be pre-sliced but it was not. The Caesar salad was delicious! The croutons weren't hard, which was really nice. The dressing for the salad was great. I wish I got just a Caesar salad for my entree. The fries were good. There are three options for fries: signature; truffle; and Parmesan. I wanted truffle but Emilio stated the restaurant was out of the truffle oil. The rolls and the cinnamon-honey butter were really good also! I loved the roasted cremini mushrooms side. They were seasoned very well. In the past for brunch, I had the steak and eggs which come with home fries and buttered toast. The whole meal was delicious. Would definitely return for this meal. A member of the dinner party ordered the yummy yummy love mimosa and enjoyed it. I ordered the ocean blue margarita. When my drink came I took a sip of it and notified there were random yellow particles floating in my drink and the glassware was broken. I alerted Emilio and he took back the drink and brought me back another one. When I got the drink back I noticed there weren't anymore floating yellow particles in it, which makes me wonder what was in the original drink I was provided. While both drinks were the "same" drink they tasted completely different. It would be nice to see more consistency with the drinks. When I went for brunch before I ordered another drink and I also was not impressed by the flavor of it. For the prices of these drinks they should taste better than they have the past two times I've been here. Our server Emilio, while pleasant, did not really stop by to check on us to see if we enjoyed our meal or if there were any concerns. We spent a good amount of time waiting to place our orders and waiting for him to stop by so we could pay our check. There is a 20% gratuity automatically added for "parties of 0 or larger."
