Candy Cave is essentially a café for kids. It serves an interesting assortment of things like candy floss, Halal sweets as well as sugar free sweet options. It's an innovative idea for a shop, but I'm not convinced that Clifton Street is the ideal location for it, especially since the council implemented the new one way traffic system about a year ago. I would expect to see a shop of this kind in the city centre, or perhaps even on City Road, as it is clearly targeted at children, and is a place where parents can take their kids for a treat, or a larger group of children as part of a birthday celebration. Clifton Street is not so easily accessed these days by car, and so I'm sure that this will be putting some families off visiting the shop unless they live in the area. Nevertheless, they serve coffee, and so it doubles as quite a pleasant coffee shop.
It's a while since I've been here so I don't really know how the new road layout is affecting them, and so my thoughts are merely speculative.
The last time I paid them a visit was after a big shopping expedition to the centre of town with a friend and her two children. We used the idea of going to Candy Cave into bribing them into being tolerably behaved whilst we shopped for things that bored them to tears. It worked! read more
