Freakshakes in Bristol!…read more When I was told about this cafe selling Freakshakes in Bristol, I couldn't quite believe it. I thought that was just a Shoreditch deal. But no, this cafe really are selling some fine calorific freakshakes! It's a basic cafe inside, with a small fish tank (always nice to see fishies), there are even some sofas to sit on if you really want to get comfortable. I went on a Saturday lunch time, and even though there's quite a lot of seating available, the whole place was full. I had to make my order and sit outside for 10 minutes, luckily I sofa became available so I quickly nabbed my spot inside the warm cafe opposite the fish tank. We ordered 3 freakshakes, Invision Our Vanilla, Peanut Butter Passion & Raspberry Roulette, all of which were really, really good. They tasted amazing and they looked so freaky too. We did have these as a dessert and had ourselves some savoury paninis first, which were very tasty too, especially the BBQ Pulled Pork Panini. I'd totally recommend going to this place, even if it's just for a panini/sandwich and a coffee, but if you make the effort to go here you've really gotta have a freakyshake. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Served with a choice of either fries or chunky wedges (think roast potato wedges and you'll get the idea). The cafe makes its own hot sauces and strawberry jams, all of which you should try if you get a chance as they're all scrumptious. You can even buy jars of the sauces to take home. Service is warm & friendly and you're made to feel incredibly welcome the second you walk in the door to the moment you leave. If you're on the lookout for something a bit more genuine and satisfying than what the nearby commercial chains can offer this is the place!

If it's the food you're going for, I'd say there are plenty of other establishments in Clifton offering better value and quality than the Bridge Café - but you're really paying for the whole experience here, particularly the elegant surroundings and the location, and I'd highly recommend eating here at least once if only to enjoy what has to be one of Bristol's most striking and spectacular views.

If you do order the cooked breakfast make sure you also ask for the veggie option of home made bubble and squeak to be added. This elevates the breakfast to another level. I now can't imagine ordering a breakfast without it. Apart form the breakfast the food is all great with interesting daily specials and cakes always available. Including homemade Marmalade of course. Their homemade marmalade is so good, I think about it throughout the year while I'm not in the UK. I'm not sure where they get their bacon, but it's absolutely killer. The anytime breakfast with a side of crumpets/marmalade with tea is about £8. You can't get a better deal than that for fresh, made-to-order food that's not greasy. I'm so glad this place has survived in an address that's historically had quite a bit of turnover.

The bread was a sensation. I am excellent at making homechurned butter, and therefore my need for well-prepared bread is exceptionally great. I can confirm to all that this was a satisfactory partner. I was interrogating the cashier about this and he was a bit confused about my clearly stated needs, but otherwise friendly.
