Most of the houses in this community participate in the annual tradition of putting up beautiful lights and holiday decorations for all to enjoy during the month of December. There's about 4 blocks of houses to view. You can walk on the sidewalk or drive through in your car. The lights are supposed to be on between 5-10pm daily. Some tips: - it gets very busy. I recommend you come right when it starts at 430-5pm. By 530pm, the streets are already packed with cars and people walking around. - when it's busy, it's really hard to navigate with a stroller. I recommend you leave those in the car. - dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes to walk in. - be prepared for lots of traffic going in and out so plan accordingly. Just magical! This is the best Neighborhood Christmas light display in San Diego! It is a spectacular display of holiday spirit. We visited as a large group just before Christmas and chose to view the lights on foot. All three cul-de-sacs did not disappoint. Everywhere you looked there was an array of different decorations, lights and inflatables. There were also music bands performing, families selling hot chocolate and others projecting Christmas movies on their garage doors and Santa was even taking photos with kids. This is a friendly and bright neighborhood, especially at night. Candy Cane Lane is a family fun neighborhood that goes HEAVY on their Christmas decorations at night. It's almost frowned upon to live in the neighborhood and NOT decorate for Christmas. If you visit with your friends, the most common question you are all going to ask yourself is, "what the heck does their electric bill look like" because every house goes all out in these lights as if it's a competition. A HUGE shoutout to one of the houses that sells hot chocolate for the passer-byers. Keep an eye out to the house that has a large miniature train system in their front yard, and thank you to that house! read more

Candy Cane Lane in Poway is another community that loves to celebrate Christmas! There are tons of houses decorated here with only one common theme. You can definitely tell your at Candy cane lane with plenty of homes lined with candy cane lights! This is my second favorite community of lights that I like to visit. We decided to drive through this neighborhood. There is only one way in and out so there is a long wait to get into the neighborhood. It's also a good thing to because mainly everyone is going in one direction like a connected train. I do think that enjoying the lights are better while walking, but I wanted to stay warm this time. This place is wonderful, very well managed through and through. If you want to stay and look at each house there was a park where I saw people park and walk about 0.1 miles. I also saw once owner have hot chocolate of sorts. Great place for kids and adults alike. Merry Christmas! read more

Great light displays! Thank you to the neighbors who put this on. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty crowded. Took about an hour to drive through both cul de sacs. I'd suggest going on a non weekend night, and/or parking outside and walking in. More to see, cute photo ops and hot cocoa vendors! It was well worth the 20-30 minute drive from home. I'd probably drive double the distance to check out a place like this. You can tell that they all put a good amount of effort to set up their lights and decorations for everyone to enjoy. From the reviews I have read, this place get get busy and congested with traffic. This is a big part of the magic of my childhood. This place has about 30 houses that go all out with lights and decorations. People do start taking their decorations down soon after Christmas, so make sure to visit on or within 7 days of Christmas! Be aware, the traffic here gets CRAZY packed, very slow, and will take at least an hour or more to get through to see the first house. But there will also be no nearby parking. You will have to walk very far (more than a mile or two) if you park and walk to see the houses. If you want to avoid most of the traffic, come when it is still light out and wait for dark. Overall, it gets crazy here but is 100% worth the magic. You will feel like a kid in wonder and joy. read more

Have been here a couple times... it was quite packed which could have easily been the traffic leaving Christmas in The Park in Poway as well. Every one probably has the same idea. 2 places in one night. Driving was very hectic and very close with cars and turning and trying to get into places and then people walking up and down the streets and crossing... very hard to enjoy if you are the driver. There was a lot of cool houses this year but didn't see any street/house vendors that we normally enjoy while strolling through looking at Christmas lights. It is still a great place to take small or big, young and old to see the variety of lights. Would recommend this over other places in San Diego as a go-to for amount of participation. read more

My family wanted to do things a little different for the holidays, so we decided to venture out to Poway to check out Candy Cane Lane. We did go on a Friday evening early enough before my daughter's bedtime. We also thought we would avoid crowds but we were wrong and it seemed as though everyone has the same idea as us. Plan ahead or else you will really get stuck in traffic. You do have the option of parking your car and walking also. Just be mindful of the residents when you do. This is the perfect idea of spending the a great evening out with the family to check out this wondrous and spectacular sight. Lights everywhere! I do love how the community bonds and participates as if it's required to be a resident here. So many houses to see and so many houses are lit up. Well it was Christmas Eve and I wanted to see how Candy Cane Lane was compared to before so Off I went !! It is located in Poway and there are a couple of streets and neighborhoods lighted up with some pretty darn cool Christmas lights !! The Decorations were amazing and the work that people put out for these holidays were shown !! Lots of lights everywhere !! As you walk through the streets you can see the difference between each house and the beautiful set ups all around !! It's an tradition to see how people decorate there homes during the holidays !! Some were lighted up with lots of different colors lights !! Also decked out too !! Others were just lighted up but showed cool decorations all around.!! It's really cool to see !! Lots of people walking around enjoying the lights and the beautiful Decorations !! Cars in lines driving by slowly looking also so be patient while you drive up and down the street !! Don't miss this one, and get ready to be dazzled! The magic is down every street. Wether you choose to socially distance and experience this as a Cruze in your vehicle or experience it up close and become part of the magic by strolling down sidewalks, the experience is unforgettable. There are just so many over the top light shows, state of the art animated characters , old school nativity scenes and, lots of Santa's, music and happy children. Our favorite is the house that has turned their drive way into a Christmas theater. Perfect if you just need to pause to take it all in while watching your favorite Christmas movie. I must be missing something here because, like Elysha, I didn't see there was that many houses lit up and on display. We even drove around a bit more to make sure we didn't miss any. Maybe this was due to the fact we went on Christmas day, I'm not totally sure. There was maybe 10 houses that had lights on. Yes those that did have lights were beautiful and I'm trying hard not to complain about free Christmas fun, but I'm not entirely sure it was worth the drive everyone raved about. Either way I'm glad I visited. My favorite was either the really decorated house (see photos) or the one at the end with the Minions, because minions are life. Have realistic expectations, maybe don't visit on Christmas, and definitely walk it instead of driving if you can. read more

Candy Cane Lane is a pretty good concentration of houses that are all Christmas Light'd out. There aren't many crazy houses that have 2000 lights or have FM transmitted music synced to lights but for about 4 streets, almost every house has some Christmas flair. There's only one way in and out so the streets leading up to it can get pretty backed up. If you see a line of stopped cars, you're on the right path. If you live there and am just trying to get home, we're sorry. :) There is a nearby park that has a lot you can park at and walk there. read more

I haven't been here since I was kid! What a different experience doing this on foot rather than just driving through. We parked at the park down the street a very short walk into the neighborhood. Some houses were decked out, some were moderate and some not decorated at all. But for the most part the entire neighborhood was very festive. We a met a homeowner who has been doing for over 20 years! It really just puts you in a good Christmas spirit mood walking through this neighborhood. Some homes were giving out hot coco and cookies. Welcoming people to take pictures. You don't find that kind of generosity much anymore and it felt so nice to see it here tonight. The time and thought put into designing these displays is just incredible. And I am thankful for all the homeowners who participate keeping candy cane lane alive and well for future generations to come. If you haven't come by yet, please do it at least once. I know once you come it will turn into an annual event. The holiday spirit is quite infectious here. I had a blast and I hope to make this a tradition. read more

Oh my childhood memories have come back to life! Does anyone remember one of the original Candy Cane Lanes in Chula Vista, Guava Street to be exact? That was where my dad would pile us all up in our 1975 banana yellow Nova and cruise us on over to during the holidays. How I loved that street! Sadly, after awhile, not all the homes wanted to participate and it slowly dwindled into non-existence. Enter Candy Cane Lane in Poway! Now that I am a north county resident, I'm thrilled that I have a new place to go with my co-habby. Although my Popz and big sissy are now in heaven, I still find solace in knowing that I can take my mom and brothers there as we admire the twinkling lights and really get into the Christmas spirit! The homes are decorated beautifully, one more breathtaking than the next and it brings back such happy times of my youth and sharing these precious moments with the ones I love. Super underwhelmed. There were only a couple houses that had impressive displays and there were even more houses that had nothing or close to nothing. The majority of the houses has mediocre displays. This place is very hyped up, just like Christmas card lane or whatever. Both are very lame in my opinion but maybe I'm just remembering the candy cane lane I used to go to as a child, closer to Coronado back in the 90s, those houses really went all out and every house was decorated to the fullest. I honestly wish we hadn't had made the drive out to Poway for this. Nothing worthwhile except the family bonding but we totally could have done that closer to home. Would NOT recommend coming here unless you live nearby and/or have low expectations of a good candy cane lane or Christmas lights in general. We visited the lights on December 14 at 5pm. It was me, my husband and 2 kids (ages 1 and 3). We brought the stroller for the 1 year old. If you plan to walk around, it's best to get there close to 5 or you'll have a hard time finding street parking. We parked at the beginning of Hickory. The walk takes about 45 min.
