Disappointing Experience After Years of Loyalty to Sonora Tires…read more
I've been a loyal customer of Sonora Tires in Bloomington for years, and so has my family. Growing up, this was a tire shop I trusted and regularly recommended to friends, family, and others in my local community whenever they needed tire services. Unfortunately, after my most recent experience with the owner's son, I can no longer say I would confidently recommend this business moving forward.
My visit began with a simple inquiry about the price of used tires. Over a week earlier, I had called and was quoted $50 per tire by a woman over the phone. When I came in, the owner's son insisted that the price was now $60 per tire because of a recent price change. I understand that prices can change, and my issue was not simply about the $10 difference. I was trying to explain the quote I had previously received so we could clarify the discrepancy.
Instead of addressing the situation professionally, he became argumentative, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. I even clarified that I wasn't trying to give him an attitude, which he acknowledged. However, when I asked why I would make up a price I had been quoted over the phone, he responded defensively by questioning why he would make up a price himself. The conversation went in circles when it could have been handled with a simple, respectful explanation.
Despite the unpleasant interaction, I still proceeded with having three tires replaced and paid the updated price. What disappointed me most was not the price itself, but the complete lack of professionalism and customer service shown by the owner's son during an otherwise straightforward interaction.
To be fair, I want to make it clear that my experience with the other employees was positive. The woman I spoke with in the office was kind, professional, and receptive when I explained what had happened. The employee who worked on my vehicle was also decent, kind, and focused on doing his job. I appreciate their professionalism, and my criticism is specifically directed at the owner's son and the way he handled this situation.
What makes this experience especially disappointing is the history my family and I have with this shop. When you've supported a local business for years and recommended it to others, you naturally expect to be treated with respect, even when there's a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, this encounter has left a sour taste in my mouth and changed how I view a business I once recommended without hesitation.
If the owner's son is going to have a larger role in running or eventually taking over this business, I sincerely hope he takes customer service and professional communication more seriously. Being associated with ownership should come with a greater responsibility to represent the business well, not an excuse to speak dismissively to paying customers. I also hope Armando takes customer feedback like this seriously and addresses the importance of maintaining the standards that built this business's reputation in the first place.
Unfortunately, because of this encounter, I would hesitate to return and would no longer confidently recommend Sonora Tires to my family, friends, or anyone in my local area looking for tire services. It's disappointing to see years of trust damaged by one interaction, but customer service matters, and no customer should feel belittled or made uncomfortable for simply asking for clarification about a price.
