In short, you…read moreare essentially renting a small apartment or a loft and you are close to a lot of neat things in Dallas, and on the flip side, it is a very unorthodox and somewhat confusing check-in process that may worry first timers to The Guild. So let's go over the bad/odd first. Why? Because it is a short list. The check-in is very unusual. I booked on-line. It requires uploading your driver's license and ID proof, kind of like what you wouls do if you went to an AirBnB place. You are going to be dealing with "staff" via text. They text you the day of your stay and you'll get the code to get into the building. If you have questions, you text them. To their credit, The Guild staff responds promptly. To help first timers, you park in The Guild's parking garage. You'll be texted and emailed the code to get into the door in the garage and another code for the door to your room. You go into your room and get a key card. The key card is for the garage so you can move your cae to the guest parking area underground. Then you take an elevator back up to your room. It is really that easy, but not knowing what to expect up front can be daunting. The other two knocks are this: there was construction going on to the pool area, but the contractors had huge garbage storage boxes, so when we went to the balcony, it looked really bad. My girlfriend waa delighted to see a recors player in the room with a small selection of records, but the records were in poor condition and skipped when played. Beyond that, this place is awesome. We had an entire kitchen to work with (that we didn't use). The coffee in the room was very tasty (according to my girlfriend because I don't drink coffee). The bathroom was large. There was even a washer and dryer stacked up in one of the closets with laundry soap if we had needed it! The room was stylish, boasted an usual, but comfy, couch, bar stools, the aforementioned full kitchen ans dishwasher, a walk-in closet to the bedroom, and even a baby playpen located in the closet! We didn't need that, but that is awesome that it is there. I could very easily see people staying here multiple days and having clean laundry for when they leave to return home or continue on their trip. Checking out involved putting our key cars into a drop box and shooting over a picture of us doing so. Overall, I was very impressed with the room we stayed in and I think the price was very fair, even with the construction going on. I have to give a knock for the construction and the records not working, but everything else was awesome. I'm in Dallas for business every few years and I will definitely be looking to book at The Guild the next time around -- especially now that I've got the check-in process squared away.

I typically do not write about hotel stays…read more.. However, this is a unique experience I needed to share. I came across The Guild when I was looking for an extended stay. To my surprise it was an apartment for half the price of a hotel. Score! Now keep in mind, though this was found on a hotels.com, it was an apartment with all the amenities! 1bed 1 bath / living room / full kitchen and balcony. The kitchen was stocked with necessities (pots, plated, glasses, utensils etc) to make a meal. Score 2! Now get this! Stack washer and dryer! Even had pods for your wash if you didn't have any. The bed was a super comfortable Needle and Thread memory foam mattress with crisp and clean linens made by parachute. Score 3! Lastly the bathroom. It was basic but clean and stocked with super soft towels and tea tree shower gel and shampoo. Score 4! Now why just the four stars if I am making this sound so wonderful? Well... the site showed a pool. There was none as it was under construction. During my stay, there was construction legit right outside the bedroom window. This made sleeping in impossible. I would have been fine if the communication was made about those 2 issues. So NO SCORE FOR YOU! :) All in all it was a great stay and I totally recommend. I will definitely stay at The Guild in Dallas and other destination where available. Welp! Onto the next!

For me, luxury is autonomy, and I think it's difficult to provide a luxury experience to a guest unless you understand what they consider "luxury". Personally, I prefer things to be handled in a way that allows me to have what I need without having to ask, wait, or rely on someone else for something I could easily (& quickly) do myself. Unfortunately, too much of the service here felt like "service for the sake of service" rather than service tailored to what I actually needed. There were definitely things I enjoyed. I appreciated the welcome bottle of water & glass of wine, particularly in 105° heat. I loved the bright, modern design, art-focused atmosphere, rooftop pool, in-room books & magazines, handheld shower wand, foot-washing bar, makeup mirror, makeup cloths, makeup remover wipes & abundance of bathroom hooks. There are beautiful amenities here, and there are genuinely caring employees. My room experience, however, had too many shortcomings. My original King room was smaller than expected, with limited usable surfaces & no luggage rack. There was a handheld steamer but no iron/ironing board or convenient place to hang clothing while steaming. The TVs were glitchy & Chromecast repeatedly disconnected. There was no actual refrigerator or microwave, only a beverage chiller stocked with soda and energy drinks, which I didn't consume. It took more than 4 hours & multiple calls to Guest Services to receive a refrigerator & microwave. Even ice has to be requested. For someone who values autonomy, having to call & wait for basic conveniences is not luxury. Noise was another major issue. The heavy doors slam loudly enough to shake the room, hallway conversations are clearly audible, & I could hear the guest above me pacing. This was frustrating because I specifically requested a top-floor corner room due to a medical condition that makes me sensitive to noise. Plus while traveling for work, these disturbances were incredibly disruptive to my sleep. I do want to give credit where it is due. On my 2nd day, Front Desk Manager Stacy asked how my stay was going. When I explained the noise issues, she was empathetic & found a top-floor corner suite that was available. The suite was substantially more spacious & considerably quieter, and the upgrade genuinely changed the rest of my stay. I'm incredibly grateful for Stacy's kindness & willingness to actually solve the problem. The engineering staff were fantastic in bringing and moving my microwave and refrigerator from my original room to my suite. Carlos also went out of his way to provide excellent service, from delivering my Amazon packages to offering helpful recommendations of things to do. Unfortunately, even in the suite, I noticed housekeeping issues: smeared handprints on windows, large streaks across the dressing mirror & conspicuous stains on mattress covers. There were also a few noise issues although they weren't nearly as bad. I could still hear the occasional door slamming, but also loud, muffled conversations through the air vents from the neighboring suite. The pool area had issues too. Discarded food sat on a nearby lounger for hours, smelled foul & was covered with ants. I shouldn't have had to enjoy my $40 parmesan truffle fries & French 75 next to someone's funky food waste. The employee who delivered my food also saw the trash but didn't dispose of it. The pool itself also needed cleaning, with visible oil & grime buildup on the walls, stairs & bottom. Dedicated pool attendants or regular 30-60 minute housekeeping checks would help. The metal-wire loungers were unbelievably uncomfortable & desperately need cushions. The valet experience was particularly frustrating. I experienced numerous issues surrounding professionalism, attention to detail & even safety that had to be reported to hotel management, but I appreciate them taking my concerns seriously and addressing them promptly. Finally, getting change was unnecessarily difficult. I had to visit 3 different places in the hotel before finding some, and one front-desk employee started to suggest I walk several blocks to 7-Eleven in 105° heat before stopping herself. With so many staff providing service who deserve to be tipped, the hotel should make cash & change more accessible. Fortunately, the restaurant was able to help. I'm grateful to the employees that genuinely tried to make my stay better. Unfortunately there were just too many operational, cleanliness & noise issues for me to consider this a 5-star experience.
