Conchinita pibil from El Pocito.

We had the most amazing experience with Nassim during our tour on the morning/afternoon of 3/19. We were staying at an all-inclusive resort for a wedding but myself, my wife and several of her friends found the food severely lacking. The cuisine at the resort was catered toward more western tastes/preferences and so we sought to find other options. We found Cancun Food Tours through one of the travel apps and the reviews were consistently 5 stars and above so we chose it without hesitation. Nassim and his driver picked us up at 0930 on the dot and we were off. The tour consisted of 5 total stops: First was at Mercado 23, a truly local market which the citizens of Cancun frequent for groceries and such. This was in stark comparison to Market 28 which was basically a tourist trap and was recommended by the resort concierge. (This can be skipped as all the shops basically sell the same things at inflated prices.) At Market 23, we were able to visit a shop which sold items we were looking for but at drastically lower price points. It was here where we visited a local vendor who sold tamales of all different flavors. There were 6 of us in our group so we tried one flavor each and shared amongst each other to get a taste of everything. Weirdly enough, the strawberry and raisin tamale was really good! Our second stop was El Pocito, a family owned and run restaurant that has been present since 1988 and used a traditional recipe for their offerings. The tacos de cochinita we had included a tortilla that was stuffed with refried beans which totally made the dish. We also had the option of choosing an agua fresca to wash down the taco and you cannot go wrong with any flavor you choose. Our next stop was by far my favorite which was a shop near city hall that was frequented by local workers and by far had the most meat within the taco. For P25 or ~$1.25, you got a double taco with a heaping serving of meat which required something carbonated to wash it down. It bordered on ridiculous but I wasn't complaining! For our fourth destination, we ate at El Mero for what Nassim called "quesabirria," a portmanteau of quesadilla and birria and his favorite "treat yo'self" spot. The quesabirria was definitely tasty and I could see why it was his favorite place to eat. For our fifth and final stop, Nassim also took us to get paletas or ice pops for dessert and with so many flavors to choose from, we definitely had our pick of the litter. I had the coconut one which had bits of coconut within while my wife had the pistachio one which contained chocolate shavings which made the paleta really tasty. We cannot say enough nice things about Nassim and can only encourage others to book him for his taco tour while you're in the area. His intimate knowledge of mexican cuisine and the local offerings are second to none. He mentioned that he was also a chef/cooking instructor and that they also offered cooking classes. If I return to Cancun, I'd definitely love to try his class and experience searching the market for ingredients to make what surely would be an epic meal. PS. Nassim also proved himself to be a true renaissance man as he showed us local graffiti artwork which spoke to us on so many different levels. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? BOOK YOUR TOUR NOW!!!

The Taco Tour is great! Went on it in December 22 with my hubby and came back in May and did it again with my sister! G, our host was funny and very welcoming. The food is amazing and the experience as a whole is worth every penny. Drink the Tequila!!

Don't cry over spilled milk...it could have been beer. My Friends and I love to eat but we especially love to eat tacos and beer. I guess you can't eat beer but my friends drink it so fast it kind of seems like that. When I saw a tour that involved these two things I thought it would be a blast and it was! We were picked up at the hotel by our driver and our tour guide Angel. Something happened with the other group going on the tour and they weren't able to make it so it was just us three girls on the tour. We got a lot of individual attention plus they worked with all my dietary needs. I am a vegetarian and my friend is a pescatarian so they had their work cut out for us. We stopped at four different locations and got different beers and tacos and in the end, we stopped at the fifth location for churros. The first 3 locations felt very authentic, local places. These places seem like they were made for locals in the area which I loved because it felt so authentic and it felt like we got a special look into Cancun's Mexican food. They got creative with my vegetarian tacos and I loved all the things they put into it. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy! The last restaurant we went to was super fun but I guess more of a tourist spot. The waiters put the drinks on their heads and hats on us and they have a mariachi band. It was so exciting inside. I saw they had cool foods that were on fire that they brought to other people's tables. I enjoy the vibe! Angel our tour guide taught us about the history of each place and we learned so much! He took lots of great pictures of us and we had such a blast. Also, extra tacos only cost us $1 even though we were pretty full after the tour. We ended the tour going to a stand for churros and they were served super hot and crispy just like I like! What a fun experience and a great way to start the first night of our vacation!

We did the street foods tour today with Cancun food tours. We booked thru Expedia the day before and had no issues booking and getting picked up at our hotel. The admin staff emailed us quickly letting us know when they would be picking us up and even answered a few of our questions. Our tour guide was Nav (short for Navarro). He's was freaking awesome. Super knowledgeable, great English, funny, and attentive but not over bearing. Here's a quick snap shot of our trip. 1. Pick up at 915am. Followed by one more hotel pick up. 2. Our group was a total of 10 tourists. 7 adults and 3 kids. Van was comfortable and sat 13. So we had plenty of room and AC worked great. 3. We made a total of 5 stops. One of which was in the middle of Mercado 23, a lovely little outdoor market with produce stands and gift shops at Mexico prices (not hotel zone prices). 4. We are at very small shops that I know for a fact I would not have stumbled on to on my own. The food was fantastic! 5. Best part of the tour was Nav who was also our waiter, busboy, historian, and tour guide. He ordered everything and paid the tab. So there was no guessing. We just took a seat and he fed us. 6. One thing to make clear, this food tour only provides about one smaller portion at each location. But that was great so you didn't get full early and had room to try everything. And to make it more clear the first carnitas taco we had was loaded with meat. Like two of those and I would have been good for all of lunch. 7. They end the day with a refreshing dessert fruit popsicles while we get a history lesson on the building of Cancun. Overall this tour was excellent. I'm not easily impressed but was very happy with the services I received for the price. I would highly recommend this tour and Nav as your guide. Below are some pics of some of the food we tried. Hope this helps. Just book it already. ***Pro Tip: If you book this tour, only three locations had bathrooms. Do yourself a huge favor. Skip using the bathroom at the outdoor market (mercado23). It's . The next one is in a restaurant and you won't have to wait long between venues. **

Absolutely great. Claudia was so pleasant & knowledgeable about the places we visited & ate at. I would happily recommend 100% for anyone to take the tour. We did the flavors of Mexico. Don't eat before the tour. You will full up on the tour. My most favorite was the first one with the ceviche & shrimp empanada. The best overall. After the tacos we went to the center market where there were sweets all over & shopping. Its a local spot & was so nice. I would do this tour again.. they have other ones but I can't speak for those. Claudia was so sweet she told the last place it had been my husband's birthday & they sang & brought out some leches cake. It was delicious.

Sasha & George were absolutely awesome guides! The tacos were 10/10 and definitely left us full and satisfied at the end of the tour. Seeing local Cancun and hearing the history really added the extra cherry on top on this tour. We will be back and will surely request Sasha and George again!

Jenn B.

We really enjoyed the taco tour! Four tacos of different cultural origins, topped off with yummy yummy churros and some local community flavor. This excursion delivered exactly what was promised. Our guide Diego was perfect. Would do this again in a heartbeat!

Nassim was my guide and there was another gentlemen who did all of the driving. Each time I got out or in the vehicle, both guides got out of the vehicle to open the doors for me or grab any items I purchased along the way. Great tour for authentic Mexican food, culture, city views, and shopping. The market was one of my favorite things. The guide also was very knowledgeable and many of the locals are familiar with him so the services at restaurants are quick when you show up with Nassim.

But it seems the owner sold it (or had it scammed away from her) and now some dude named SAUL is scamming people. He pretends to be Emily (even replying from her email) and introduces himself as Emily. Then after a while it's not Emily, it's Enrique. Then it turns out he's not done shopping for your groceries, so he'll be another 30 minutes (45) and he's not actually shopping, Saul is, and then it turns out it's his wife Tania who is shopping, and then it's SAUL WHO SHOWS UP to "fix" your problem. But then you circle back and get an email from Emily (all the same email) and "she" says she doesn't know Saul and he's not on staff. Tania, meanwhile, pulled this: Pork chops :: requested 1 and got 3 Sliced provolone :: I got smoked provolone. I cannot eat smoked cheeses. Fresh green beans :: I got peas. Activia yogurt :: yogurt drink and yogurt are not the same thing Cornstarch :: cornstarch and cornmeal are not the same thing Morrell snowcap lard :: is for baking biscuits. Our shopper, Tania, always strives to fulfill the items on the list accurately, and when certain items are unavailable, she attempts to find suitable substitutes." You are required to reconfirm your tour a few days prior with the owner Emily, but she is responsive and confirms your tour! We learned from our guide Xantal (pronounced SH-ANTAL) that Emily owns the business but works from Cozumel where she runs the business and other ventures; she actually was the one that started doing her tours personally after guests to her and her husband's inquired about where was the best local cuisine in Playa del Carmen. Thus, the business was born! Xantal met us at the corner of Benito Juarez Ave and la Quinta Ave. We stood in front of the white stoned church on the corner, directly across from a souvenir store as instructed in the email. Xantal greeted us promptly and introduced herself and gave us free water! We then walked a few blocks to the first stop, a street taco stand! We had the best tacos here ever, made from Cochinita Pibil. We learned the making of this meat takes hours and overnight preparation through underground heating. This was honestly the best tacos we had the entire week we stayed in Mexico! The next stop was a quesadilla stop, which you had the option to put your choice of vegetables and meat. The drink is also included here! The taxi ride is also taken care of by the tour. The next stop is at a local market where Xantal showed us various herbs and local ingredients along with their historic value to local cuisine and the Mexican people. You have the option here to buy some of these items if you wish! Right next door is the next stop where we have posole (soup). This soup is so tasty and is a classic dish with mayan roots. We learned that there are 3 variouations, a white base, a red base (which you will have here), and a green base (all colors of the Mexican flag). The next stop is another tacos stop which specializes in carnitas and is also very delicious. The drink is included and the taxi ride is also covered by the tour. The last stop is an ice cream shop, which had homemade flavors with fresh fruit and cream with a variety of flavors and your basic favorites from back home too! We then walked back to the church and ended the tour! Xantal through the entire experience was very informative, hospitable, and relatable! She did her best effort to make us feel welcomed and made the tour about us! We got lucky we were the only ones scheduled that day for the tour, so it was a private tour! I would recommend if you have dairy restrictions to bring some lactaid pills with you. Overall, well worth it, especially to avoid the touristy food that might mistake you to be local!

I came by myself on a cruise ship excursion earlier this year. With the tour, after the typical "we take a photo and try to sell it to you later" moment, they walk you through this forest-like setup and tell you the history of cacao, it's various uses, and a live demonstration of how cacao gets mixed with other ingredients to make chocolate. I learned a lot. After the demonstration, there's a Tiki Bar selling chocolate based beverages, including a chocolate margarita that I've heard great things about and a chocolate martini that I thoroughly enjoyed. From carefully watching the bartender, there's no Mayan Cacao products anywhere in the mix, though-- it's the typical stuff you'd find in any well-stocked liquor store. Of course, they finish by dropping you off in a gift shop where you can buy chocolate bars and other souvenirs and gifts to take home with you. For the price, it wasn't worth grabbing the chocolate bars, but it was nice that they had some samples for you to try if you weren't sure.

Absolutely horrible experience…read more I had booked a private transfer from Cancun to Playa Mujeres. I arrived and there was nobody waiting for me. I therefore had to use my phone in Mexico (something I was not planning on doing) to contact the Tour Operator. I was told there was an issue with the reservation getting into their system and to hold on. After about 20 minutes they told me that it would be at least an hour before they could get anyone to me. That they would cancel this trip and issue me a refund and that I could find a Taxi. Obviously I would not use this company to return to the airport and booked with a different company. Now, had this company wanted to even attempt to make things right, they should have informed me to book a taxi, and they would pay for that taxi. The trip I booked via Viator was $118. The Taxi Cost me about $147 for one way and the return trip with a different company was $75. So, essentially this company could have offered to pay for the taxi (they would not have had to pay for the cost of their driver or their transportation). So, for maybe an out of pocket expense to them of under $100 they could have maybe had a little better review. But, I did request and get a refund. The company responded to me, "We apologize, there was indeed an error in the automated system entry; however, we have approved 100% of the refund. Rio Secreto was an amazing experience!…read more I went to Cancun for a girls' trip, and honestly, I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I tend to get anxious about new experiences, but I always try to push myself--knowing I'll be happy I did afterward. When you arrive, check-in takes place in a hidden, lush area with benches. A short video plays so you can get an idea of what Rio Secreto is all about. After that, you check in, sign your waivers, and meet your guide for the day. We totally lucked out--our guide, George, was incredible! The guide makes all the difference. George was full of life, personality, and knowledge. He truly immersed us in the caves and shared so much about Mayan culture. I can't say enough nice things about him! Your guide then takes you by van to the Rio Secreto caves, about a 15-minute drive on an unpaved, natural, and bumpy road. I don't get carsick, but if you're prone to it, you may want to take something beforehand. The ride itself is scenic and surrounded by lush greenery. Once you arrive, you'll find lockers, showers, bathrooms, and seating areas. Be prepared to remove all jewelry, as it's not allowed in the caves--the water must remain pure. You'll take a quick shower before putting on your wetsuit and water shoes (they provide them, or you can bring your own). You'll also wear a helmet with a light. The facility is extremely clean and well-maintained. I was genuinely impressed by how often they sanitized the equipment, floors, and bathrooms. Once you're geared up, you take about a 10-minute walk to the caves. Before entering, you'll participate in a beautiful Mayan ceremony meant to cleanse your spirit--and take a quick group photo. Important tip: You cannot bring your cell phone! Let it go and just enjoy the moment. A photographer will take pictures throughout the tour, and trust me, it's worth it. Walking and swimming through the caves while listening to George share stories about the Mayans, the legends, and the discovery of Rio Secreto was truly magical. The water is cool at first, but you get used to it quickly. Floating through the crystal-clear water surrounded by stunning cave formations took my breath away. After the tour, you're treated to a delicious meal--including handmade tortillas! An amazing day and an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend Rio Secreto!

Like she brings a Carryon just for her fan only. This was a lesson learned. Service was friendly. They want to discord all your wristbands when you checking out. There was a cool night club on the venue that offered drinks as well. Overall I felt safe and irritated. I would selected a different resort on my next visit to Mexico.
