What a great place!!!! I didn't bring my paddle board to Canandaigua lake, but no worries you can rent them and kayaks and more from this place. They have wet suits, life jacket, lots of equipment to purchase. When I walked up I was greeted with friendly hellos and bubbly employees. I rented a paddle board for $23 showed my license and filled out the waiver. They gave me my paddle, adjusting it to my height, and instructed me to walk down the sidewalk (literally a stone throw from the building), where there is a small beach and there was the rest of the crew waiting for me. They helped me in the water and explained the territory If where to go and where not to go and off I want. Great time, beautiful lake, just wonderful team of employees. read more

We came here as a group last week to kayak on the lake. We showed up around 9am and were immediately escorted to our kayaks and put into the water after signing a waver. We were able to bring our own life jackets and wear those. The kayaks we rented were super nice and had great back support which was adjustable. The lake is awesome and clear on the bottom. Perfect summer-time activity! A few tidbits: - Wear sunscreen (or a sun shirt) or else the sun will get you - Bring water (you will need it) if you forget there's a little hot dog stand you can kayak up to in order to buy some water - The kayak's have a dry area in the front where you can put keys/ phones etc - There is ample free parking around the shop - The shop appears to rent out more than just kayaks- looks like they have SUPs and windsurfing equipment as well. There was yoga happening out on the water on SUPs when we got there. read more

We enjoyed kayaking, but we're frustrated by our experience leading up to being on the water. You have to park across the street in a public lot, but this isn't super clear until after we parked in what we thought was their lot and were told to move. After we checked in and got our paddles/life jackets, we were directed to the beach to get the kayaks. We had booked 4 kayaks and when we got there, there were only 3 available. They said it would be a few minutes, but then someone else took the kayaks that were there, and the staff (who told us that those were ours) didn't stop them. They ended up bringing down some other kayaks from the store, but we didn't go out until 20 minutes after our reservation. It all ended up being fine because they let us come back later, but the whole experience just started off on a hectic note that wasn't the most pleasant. read more

This was a great day with my girls. They got paddle boards and my love and I got kayaks. The water was calm and the weather was perfect for this day. Overall this was a great experience and the reason I gave it 4 stars was because they kinda just throw you out there with limited to no instructions whatsoever. They didn't even tell us when to return to shore. I will do this again because it was affordable and fun for the whole family. read more

Four of us took a Kayaking lesson on 7/17/2022. It was a great time! Grace was our trainer/guide. She could not have been more fun and informative. It was really nice having someone who grew up in Canandaigua showing us the ropes out in the lake. Two of us have already purchased kayaks! (Different than the two we almost purchased before the lesson!) If you're thinking about a new water sport, definitely take a lesson here first! read more

I've rented paddleboards here the past 2 years and have always enjoyed my experience! Paddleboarding on Canandaigua Lake is a much better experience than renting in Irondequoit Bay (clearer and warmer water, less wind/currents, and the boat wake is actually super fun to go through!). The employees were always very friendly and helpful. This last time the paddleboard I got was a blow up one, and it was super cool and you really couldn't tell it wasn't solid! There is a parking lot across the street which is convenient, but I haven't ever actually used it. They will take your key for you while you're out paddleboarding so that is helpful too! In peak summer times, it's probably best to call ahead and reserve your time! The first time we didn't do this and had to waste a couple hours at nearby breweries beforehand (is that really a problem)? read more

We have been regular customers for years. It's my "go to" when I have out-of-town company for fun things to do in the area! One of my family members started out here learning windsurfing. We then started renting kayaks. Once stand-up paddle boarding was available, I started renting regularly. I like the simplicity of having the equipment right there - so convenient! The staff members have always been polite and professional. I'd recommend reserving ahead of time to assure your plans - you never know how popular it'll be that day! It can get busy. All in all, I am really glad this is available in our area and I appreciate this business a lot. read more

The lake and kayaking were wonderful, and the staff and assistance getting set up were even better. There were plenty of staff; they had our life jackets, paddles, and kayaks ready; and they were helpful along the whole process. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough, as this was one of the highlights of our adventures along the finger lakes. read more

Online booking was very easy but we weren't really sure what to expect when we got there. We had to park across the street in a public parking lot. The workers weren't very helpful- in fact they were kind of rude. We asked if there were lockers- no. I asked "What about our shoes? Are we supposed to walk across the street barefoot?" They responded "Well I guess you can leave them on the beach." Ooookkay? It was all just very awkward. They looked at us like we were crazy to even ask something like that. Turns out we could have left a bag right at the beach. And our keys with the desk. I'm just not sure why we weren't given more direction and why they treated us like we were asking the world of them. The owner here comes off as rude. Once you start talking to him, he's fine, but at a first impression i thought about passing on renting. Secondly, I was expecting the same quality kayaks that are rented at genessee waterways, and at irondeqoiut bay at bay creek rentals.'instead they rented us out these Kayaks that are completely open on top...the best way to describe...I felt like I was in a raft with a paddle and a back support. Also, these kayaks aren't meant for a lake, and every time I paddled, I literally felt the kayak wanting to tip over. I only weigh 118lbs and I would not rent here again from the quality of the kayaks they rent. It's just not for me. I would try sailboarding here, but not my ideal place to rent a quality kayak read more

My wife and I went to Canandaigua Sailboarding yesterday to rent kayaks. It was our very first time kayaking, and our experience could not have been better. Giovanni greeted us and explained everything that a first-timer needed to know, and as seniors (we are in excellent health but after all, I'm 70 and my wife is 66) and so we had tons of questions; all were answered. As my wife and I were about to head out to get our two kayaks, another staffer, Kathleen joined us, gave us a lesson in kayaking and for the next hour on the water she gave us terrific tips and insights into the best techniques to use, talked about the designs features of kayaks and how we should use them to maximize their performance - and our enjoyment. Kathleen simply could not have been more helpful, personable and informative. We had not intended to buy kayaks yesterday, but after this incredible session, we talked to Steve the owner and bought two Ocean Kayak Scrambler 11's. Not only did Steve offer a nice mid-season discount, but he also arranged for the kayaks to be delivered without charge to our home on nearby Cayuga Lake, that very evening. Early this morning was our first time to go out on our lake. And what a thrill it was. We wish we had taken this first step earlier. But, for now, our sincere thanks to Kathleen, Steve and Giovanni for getting us on the water. read more
