However the owner/manager/boss clarified they are fried in the same oil--that's why they refer to them as "gluten friendly". I said that's actually not gluten friendly if they're fried in the same oil as gluten, then they by nature are infused with gluten. If they're made in the same facility as gluten, that would be gluten-friendly. My husband and I kindly attempted 3 different times 3 different ways to help her understand why frying gluten friendly donuts in the same deep fryer is harmful for gluten sensitive people but she was unwilling to understand. She then made a big show of changing her gloves when handling the gluten free muffin for me and said "since it seems like it really matters to you" sarcastically. If anyone understood what gluten does to my already chronically in pain body I HOPE they would have a touch more empathy. It genuinely soured our whole experience and we didn't stay much longer. So in looking for a new venue we came across Corey Lake and thought we'd give it a try. Glad we did. One thing to remember with Corey Lake is that it is split into two locations: one is the actual orchard where you can pick apples and a number of grape varieties, and the second is the market where they sell a number of fruit and veggie products, already picked items, pies, jellies, doughnuts, cider, pumpkins, and the like. The market also has a little play area for youngsters. The orchard is just a short drive from the market and is worth the trip. They offer a number of varieties of apples and the rows are pretty well marked. On balance we thought Corey Lake had fewer trees/acres than Tree-mendus but had nicer prices. At the orchard you check in at a Quonset hut and purchase a bag size (1/2 bushel, 1 peck, 1/2 peck), then you walk/drive out to fill your bag. If you are planning ahead you may want to bring a bucket to put your bag in ... the partially filed bag gets unwieldy after a while. If you you find you don't need the bag or size you bought, you can change it on the way out, so their pricing is very fair. You have the option to pay for your apples back at the market, but most pay right there in the Quonset hut ... so you don't have to visit the market, but do since it was fun. The market had very nice pies and a lot of items from the surrounding Amish areas. The market is a fresh fruit and veggie heaven and is worth the stop. Corey Lake Orchards is a nice weekend trip on a Fall day - recommended.

The small bucket is a lot, and we had four kids picking, so you do the math! Across the street is their bakery, creamery, and farmstand where you can also see the berries being packed for stores all over. The creamery offers some exceptional flavors and yes, free samples too. In fact, there are free samples throughout the store of jams, jellies, salsas and more. This is a great way to enjoy a few hours and reward yourself for the hard work of picking so many berries!
