The owner Chris really does an amazing job running the gym. He has a fantastic staff of trainers (Emily, Kalvin and Jonathan) that always go above and beyond for their clients. I started training with with Emily this past year to compete in Olympic Lifting. I've loved every minute training with her. She truly is an amazing Coach. She's very attentive, has been spot on with my programming needs since day one, has a great eye for making form corrections, and the list can go on. She is genuinely a caring Coach that wants to see her athletes succeed. I couldn't have asked for a better coach.

Before doing this review, I read through the majority of the previous reviews. And in my short time…read morethere, I could relate to many of them even though they'e several years old. On my second day there, I realized that this is not a professional staff from Hospital. I looked up online and it's a subcontractor my first gym after high school. Was the pump room in Geneva. That was a 24 hour club back in 1985. And been the norm pretty much ever since not being a 24 hour club cut down on staff, but it still makes it crowded during the times that it is open. The staff seems to be more tuned to, working at a big box store than it does a facility that could have a medical emergencies at any time. Based on the previous reviews, there doesn't seem to be communication of change. I've been a member on and off for several years, and the equipment has not been upgraded. And in some categories, there's just not enough or they don't have a modern version. But it is clean and you don't have to put up, with the strange way some people act now in gyms. So those two are benefits. I just hope that if I do have a medical emergency or somebody that I love it's close enough for the hospital. Because I have zero respect for their ability to act calmly and professionally to an emergency by my experience.

Last year, I decided it would be good to start running. I hate running, so I needed somewhere good…read moreto go on colder days when I didn't feel like running in the streets. One of my friends told me to check this place out, which was only a couple miles away from me. She loved their classes (she did Yoga, Pilates, and some kind of ab class) and thought I'd benefit from their facilities, especially the track. Although the Centre has a membership fee for the machines & classes, I was able to use the track for free since I was a resident (at the time). That was all I needed. I loved it! The track was clean and never too crowded. I don't think a lot of people realized what a gem this place was. I went at different times during the day and enjoyed running quietly by myself or alongside my husband (he came with me a couple times). Lockers are also available next to the track with keys. I also walked around the Centre and saw two nice pools, climbing wall, new & clean machines, and several rooms for classes. The only downside is that the parking garage is kind of narrow and you have to watch out for cars coming around the corner. It's hard to find parking sometimes, but at least the garage is attached to some kind of indoor bridge over the street so you don't have to walk across the street. I also came here once for some kind of green festival and really enjoyed all the displays, booths, taste samples, art, and petting zoo! Many parts of Elgin are really run-down but this is one part of Elgin that shines. If it wasn't for the Centre (and the library nearby), I wouldn't have been complete.

I wanted to hate it. Why? Because I can then say I was right about all my misconceptions regarding the program. Be warned though. Crossfit Algonquin immediately changed my mind the second I met Chase. Our initial meeting was nothing but warm and inviting. He was honest about the challenges I would face in the box. He was very informative, and you can tell that he's been doing this for a long time and LOVES doing it. His focus is safety first which makes me feel more confident about getting in the box. Almost 2 months in, and I can say that I have never been more challenged and excited about any workout program I've been in. The WODs are well thought out, the coaches are all knowledgeable and positive, and your fellow Crossfitters are always there to cheer you on. There are other boxes in the area which are closer to me, but Crossfit Algonquin is where I belong.

BUYER BEWARE! Out of all the fitness equipment companies out there, this is one you should…read moreabsolutely avoid. There are far better, more trustworthy options than this shady operation. I found a NordicTrack treadmill listed on their website and placed an order. Shortly after, the owner, Evan Lyons, contacted me claiming the item was mispriced--but assured me he would honor the listed price. I explained that I had already placed an order directly with NordicTrack, but chose his company because it was cheaper, which is common with authorized resellers. He told me he'd coordinate with his NordicTrack rep to confirm the correct part numbers and proceed with the order. Then I received both a call and a text confirming the order was moving forward--and was explicitly told by his "rep" to cancel my direct NordicTrack order. At that point, I had over $50,000 tied up between the two purchases. When I contacted NordicTrack to cancel, I was hit with a 10% cancellation fee plus return freight charges. So now I'm already losing money. And what does this company do next? They suddenly refund my order because they no longer want to honor their commitment or pricing. No accountability, no integrity--just backing out when it no longer suits them. So now I'm left paying the price for their incompetence and dishonesty. Thankfully, I've involved legal counsel to recover my losses. I also have every text message, voicemail, and email documenting this entire situation, which will make the legal process straightforward. This company put themselves in a bad position and instead of doing the right thing, they chose to screw over their customer. That tells you everything you need to know. Do yourself a favor--find a reputable company. And take a very close look at their reviews. Ask yourself how many of them are actually real.
