The worst part about leaving UMC and moving home is losing the chance to go to Campbell's every week for goodies for events. I used them all the time. They have a rewards program...use it! I get goodies for my preceptors in rotations, for meetings at school, and "just because". The tea cakes are so different, buttery and soft with an almond flavor. I have gotten 2 custom cakes from them and loved them! They are moist and taste great. I LOVE that they carry cakes in their cases each day. Found out a friend was coming to town and picked one out and they wrote on it, no problem. read more

I've had this bakery to do birthday cakes, cookies for parties and even my brothers house warming. But I had a rather "bad experience" recently. The lady at the front counter gave me a take it or leave it attitude, I guess she thought she was the only bakery in town. I just made one phone call to another local bakery for my event and they accommodated me perfectly. To top it off everyone that attended the event loved it so much that they plan to use my new favorite baker. I have been a regular customer at Campbell's bakery when they were located inside the Westside Market on west 25 street. I continued to patronize the bakery once they moved to the new location down the street. I often look forward to buying fresh cupcakes after work to satisfy my sweet tooth. Usually Campbell's bakery delivers quality fresh cupcakes. Unfortunately ; recently I notice the cupcakes weren't as fresh as I was accustomed to, especially with the price increase. Today I was sold two stale cupcakes. I didn't notice the old cupcakes until I returned home on the east side of the city. Oh well $5.50 lost , I will no longer go out of my way for these cupcakes again. read more

I'm just not a huge fan of Campbell's Bakery. I've given them several opportunities to make me a believer and they have come up short on all occasions. I'm a huge sweet eater (so I'd had my fair share of good desserts from bakeries all over the country) and this place just doesn't do it for me. Even their chocolate cupcakes were lackluster. I've been getting cakes here for the last ten years and while I haven't had a cake from the new owners yet, every thing else I have tried has been outstanding. Unfortunately, I make it a bad habit to eat a few too many sweets and baked goods, so I end up at our local bakeries a good bit more than I should. So far, everything I have had from them has been top notch. The prices are on par, if not a bit lower, with the other bakeries in town and the quality is every bit as good. My son and I absolutely love this bakery. It is a weekly stop for us. We don't even do groceries weekly, so it's just that good. I'm a big fan of the iced tea cakes. Other people may call themselves making them, but only Campbell's knows how to do them just right. They knock out all the competition. I also love the cupcakes, petit fours, and the cake pops, and who can resist the cakes? My son goes for the chocolate chip cookies, blondies, and brownies. I just moved to the area and was out exploring during Fondren after 5 and decided to finally check out Campbell's. The awesome guy behind the counter greeted my boyfriend and me with a warm smile. He offered us a tea cake (which was awesome!) as a welcome to the area gift and began telling us about different treats they make. I ordered a chocolate cake to pick up on a Monday not realizing that Campbell's is not open on Mondays. They had it ready for me ANYWAY and opened up so I could get my cake!! I have not visited this bakery, but for me the appeal of a business isn't just their product or the establishment's atmosphere, but is their overall values and way of being in the world. I just heard the owner speak eloquently on NPR about his deeply held religious beliefs that being a Christian is about serving others, not about judging them or discriminating against them. For me, this ranks more highly than how delicious their baked goods taste and is the true sign of a business worth supporting. read more

One of the best bakeries I've ever come across. This place is a fat kids paradise and while they don't have a large selection of baked goods you will still be pleased with their mouth watering variety. I came with a friend after visiting another establishment just down the block from the bakery and that experience wasn't the greatest. We needed a little "Pick-me-up" so we ended up here and thankfully so. The charming and peaceful atmosphere was fantastic. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Being here felt like stepping back in time with the area having been restored to a more classic look due to filming the movie "The Help" in this location. My friend and I really enjoyed our first visit here, so much so, that we missed the event we came to this particular area for. A FREE cookie on your first visit, nutella/cheesecake brownies to give up your diet for and other made from scratch treats in a relaxing and calm environment make for a delightful combination that will draw me back again and again. read more

I recently tasted several baked goods from Campbell's Bakery when my mom bought an iced, tea cake, a chess square, and a caramel brownie. I thought they were all very good. I've known Mitchell Moore, the proprietor, for many years, he's the new owner of Campbell's Bakery. Previous owners had given Campbell's a bad rep, but all that's gone, so try it out! I have been to Campbell's twice in the past two weeks, since having sampled the goodies my Mom brought for us to share. I have tried a choclate cake with buttercream icing, a lemon cupcake with lemon buttercream icing, an iced tea cake, a couple of petit fors, a chess square, and a caramel brownie. I have enjoyed everything that I have tried so far. The tea cakes melt in your mouth, and I don't know what they do with the petit fors, but the cake is really moist, as if the icing were poured on when the cake was hot. It almost has the texture of dulce de leche and I like that. I have tried both the chocolate and lemon cupcakes. The cakes on both were amazing! Moist, flavorful...I like the buttercream icing, but think it needs just a little bit more flavor. However, the icing is NOT overly sweet which is wonderful. It compliments the cake overall without making your teeth hurt, but it seems to be missing a little something, but I can't put my finger on it. I think I would like some more lemon in the lemon buttercream. I tried the caramel brownie and the one I tasted was excellent. The caramel was slightly salty and the chess square was delicious. Mitchell has done a lot to clean up Campbell's bakery, it is a bright happy place to walk into and the bakery seems to be a work in progress. I love sweets. Pastries in particular. But I don't like them to be so sweet they make my teeth hurt and Campbell's nails that. Their cupcakes don't have three inches of icing on them so I give Campbell's four stars! YUM! read more
