This pool used to be affordable. I'm so sad. $15 for an hour's lap swim is ridiculous.

Our coordinators, Nancy and Jimena were awesome too, always easy to reach and made sure the whole party ran smoothly without us having to stress. The front staff was very welcoming and helpful during our first lesson. I love that the pool is warmed. It made him entering the pool so much easier. The small free play area for before and after the lesson is amazing for a fun and continued water exposure. The lessons are only 20 minutes which is can be nice for younger learners but also a challenge when we are constantly having to build a relationship with a new teacher. We are enrolled in the semi private lessons (1 teacher 2 kids). The first lesson we had was with Jose. He did a great job going at my son's pace and getting him comfortable with the water and trying to build a rapport with him. Unfortunately the following week he was not available so we took a lesson with Fransisco. It took 15 of the 20 minutes for my son to warm up. Fransisco D firmly told me I need to be consistent and sign up for the same teacher every week. I had multiple cancellations before finally getting our third lesson which went well. Due to availability again I gave up being consistent with the teachers my son had met so far and signed up with Toni who had fantastic reviews only for her to cancel the morning of. I understand life happens but it's frustrating when Waterworks tells me I need to be consistent with teachers but makes it's difficult to do so. I'm hopeful that we will find a teacher who can be consistent for my son.

Several weight rooms, exercise classes and of course over a dozen tennis courts complement the facilities as well. LG Swim and Racquet is an affordable family oriented culture (particularly during summer) and family run which matters to me. Locker rooms are clean. I have never had any issues getting a pool lane and have developed quite a few "swimming buddies" over the years. I would highly recommend LG Swim and Racquet to anyone who favors a more low key, family-centric club with a great value proposition.

Myself and my wife are both Federal "Excepted" workers, meaning that we still have to come in, without a paycheck. The club worked with us during the government shutdown, allowing us to defer payments until the shutdown ended. This is the kind of stuff you get with a family run club, flexibility if you run into some problems personal problems. Shutdowns over, and I've since payed them back. I get some of the other reviews complaining about kids, but it's winter now. The pool is heated and it's a great time to get swimming. I'm writing this before I go tonight. Also there's no separating kids from water. Just doesn't work. My wife and son love the weight stuff, I'm kind of old and just like soaking my bones in the hot tub and sauna. Can it use some updates? Sure, but at the same time if you look at similar clubs in nice areas (Like Almaden Valley) their monthly's are more than this club. I also understand the frustration of the tennis players, but hey, at least you still have someplace to play here right? All over the bay area I'm seeing courts converted into pickle ball. All in all it's a nice play to relax, recharge, and make sure your family is doing the same. Like a mini resort vacation.

When it came time to look for summer swimming lessons it was an easy choice for us to chose Brighton. The pool and the area around it was always clean. I was able to relax and enjoy watching my daughter swim. My son did not take lessons but was able to go with me and entertain himself with the tetherball and pin pong table while he waited. The lessons themselves were awesome too. We had a young man named Johnathon whom my daughter adored. He was so good for her. He right on target at picking up on my daughters abilities and needs of improvement during the first lesson. He was a great teacher and was also able to be playful in his lessons to make it more interesting. Crystal Kurotori was super friendly and informative too. Over all the entire crew was great. We would definitely return for and recommend the facility for lessons.

Anyway, there are three key things for me when it comes to a gym. First is cleanliness, second is shower facilities, third is equipment. AVAC is a relatively small gym and I tend to go at off hours. This means not many people, so thankfully it's very clean inside. If you think about a 24 Hour Fitness or similar, they have hundreds of people constantly working out, there's no way to uphold hygiene standards. AVAC, despite being small, has frequent cleanings happening, which is nice. The showers at AVAC are... okay. On the plus side, they provide towels, which is a dealbreaker for me. Who wants to bring their own towel to a gym? So that's a big convenience factor. The towels have been bleached and washed to the point they are marginally more absorbent than copy paper and quite rough, but I guess a towel is a towel. The showers themselves are workable but not ideal. Communal in nature, which I personally find awkward, but going at off hours at least allows me to have them to myself or only 1-2 others at most. If it was packed I'd probably wait, it's just too weird. The shampoo and body wash are not very high quality, kind of reminds me of what you'd get at a cheap motel. But again, at least it's there. I also don't want to cart my own soap around. For the gym's size, the equipment variety and quantity is good. I've never not been able to get a treadmill, I've always been able to get the free weights I want, and there are usually benches available. The only thing in short supplies are squat racks, of which there are two, and space for deadlifts, which is basically also two. I would say the gym's clientele leans towards... not people doing those types of exercise. So I haven't typically had to wait, but again I also don't go at peak hours. There are also tons of machines, if you're the type of person who thinks isolation exercises are good. Better than nothing I suppose, but that's just me. AVAC offers a lot of free classes, of which I've taken none. They also have a snack bar, which I've never used. There's also a pool (not the swim school pool which is like 2.5' high) and a kiddie pool outside, neither of which I've been in. And there are tennis courts and pickleball and some outdoor fitness area, which, you guessed it, I have never been to. I wouldn't say AVAC is a destination gym the way Bay Clubs are, but if you're closeby it's probably the best one around. They also have plenty of parking in back in two lots.

Indoor poor is very clean and I like the instructors and their teaching methods. I recommend instructor Adriana. I've sent my child to 2 other swim lesson places and this place had been the best. There are a few things that I wish were different. Because the group classes are 3 kids to 1 instructor, each kid is only getting about 10 minutes of working time. The rest of the time they are sitting in the steps while the instructor works with the other kids. Secondly, it does seem like the instructor turn around is high. My son has gone through 3 instructors in as many months. It also would be helpful if we knew when/how often they are tested for advancement. I initially thought it was once a month, but I don't think that's the case. If they tested the last week of the month on a monthly basis would be nice. Third, and the one that bugs me the most is they don't enforce their "No shoes on the pool deck" policy. It's a great rule, but not great if it's not enforced. Every class parents come into the shower area with their street shoes on. I'm sorry, but for the safety of the kids (and adults adhering to the policy) shoes should be taken off. It is so gross to imagine what is in the bottom of their shoes and my kid and I are walking all over that in wet, bare feet. And it's not like people don't know or that the signs are hidden. The signs are posted on the door leading to the shower and pool area. Other than that, the instructors are nice, but for the price it's a little steep, especially if I'm paying for 30 minutes and only getting 10 minutes of instructional time. I like the convenience of its proximity to where I live, but I may start looking for a different swim school .
