I…read morebecame a member of the Orlando science center over Christmas break because we had so much fun on our first visit and now I get emails all the time about fun new events going on at the museum. One of them happened to be the mess fest that was going on this past weekend. So we decided to head out to Orlando and let me tell you it was so much fun!! They transformed one of their rooms into a fun place for the kids to get messy. You were catapulting scrunchie balls covered in paint onto a canvas sheet. There was another area where they were doing little bottle rockets with paint and Alka-Seltzer. That my kids absolutely LOVED. They also had scribble bots, a raffle painting for canvas paintings but that's not all because they had other stuff going on different floors. We got to make our own slime and we even got to go outside and watch them use liquid nitrogen to cause a bubbly explosion that the kids got to play afterwards. This was a 10 out of 10 experience.

Lots for kids to do--hands-on exhibits, crafts, and presentations across four floors. A bit crowded even on a Monday, but still easy to navigate. Bonus: the first-floor restaurant was surprisingly good--$6.99 bowl was totally worth it!

Chances are you have probably also camped here at least once. It's an important part of being a scout and produces memories that you and your boys will have forever. There are different camping weekends throughout the year. They have a Tiger Growl weekend (just for Tiger Scouts), Webelos to scouts transition weekend, Cub Holiday weekends, Cub Halloween weekends and more. The camping activities are generally the same, but the themes change depending on the season and/or holiday. Their activities schedule for Saturday's are great because they are packed with things for the boys to do. By the end of the day the boys are bushed and and sleep like champs that night. They offer BB Gun shooting, archery, swimming, metal detecting, crafts, hiking and a play to name a few. They have a dining hall if you choose not to make your own meals and have a scout store/trading post where you will find anything and everything scouting related. Each campsite is quite large and features a covered and screened shelter to store your packs food/supplies. Those shelters also have bunks in their own rooms if needed. Each site also has its own flag pole if your pack or troop want to have your own flag ceremony each morning and evening. La-No-Che has their own flag ceremony that scouts must be a part of. Teaches the boys how to respect our flag and respect this country. Food in the dining hall is actually very good. My elite tongue was very happy with what I ate and it's only about $5 per meal. I'm a big guy and left each meal satisfied. During the Halloween season they have a haunted house and trail at night for the boys to enjoy. They also have trick-or-treating and a costume parade for all the boys to participate in. A Lot of fun and probably mine and my sons favorite time to camp here. This is a great team building/bonding camp for packs and troops and applies what it means to be a scout. If you have a son in scouting, this is a must. Your pack or troop should be coming here, especially if you reside in Florida. See you at La-No-Che!

I read a negative review about someone's son getting hurt and not being notified. This has not been my experience. The one time when my son and his friend were throwing an object back and forth In the pool and my son got hit in the eye accidentally, they called me immediately and the P.A. was able to write him a prescription and she took care of everything. The camp is a little "quaint" but that adds to its charm. Last year my son did a week at another camp and begged me to only enroll him at Camp Horizon. It was way overcrowded at that other camp and the food terrible. I will be sending my daughter to Camp Horizon when she old enough. I appreciate they keep the price reasonable too.

It is off the beaten path in rural Leesburg. You enter through a quaint tree lined road and reach the campground that is situated on lake Harris. The dock reminds me of something out of the movies. It is wooden with an upper deck that looks out over the massive lake. The camp director was nice and let us take a walk around. The grounds were so peaceful and relaxing. The buildings are older but well maintained. They have air conditioned cabins, a gymnasium, snack bar, chapel and dining hall. The price includes 3 hot meals for the week. There are discounts if you attend two weeks and if you have a sibling that attends. I would have visited a long time ago however they have van trasportation from Pembroke Pines for only $10. each way!!! They don't have any televisons and they don't allow campers to use cell phones or electronics. My kids come home tired after having a blast all week . Last year my daughter had such a good time that she actually got camp sick. When she got home she was upset for days because she wanted to go back!!!

Sadly, since the new ownership took over, the experience has drastically gone downhill. On their most recent visit, they were told--quite abruptly--that moving forward they would only be allowed to come in twice per piece, and that painting must be completed within six months of purchase. This was never a policy before, and the way it was communicated felt aggressive and unwelcoming. Disheartened by the interaction, they decided it would be their last time visiting Mimi's. To make matters worse, when they were called to say their pieces had finished firing, they were informed one of them had broken--without a hint of an apology. The only "resolution" offered was a gift card for the original value or nothing at all. When they went to pick up what was left of the piece, the owner was present and still didn't offer a single apology. This is not the kind of customer service or family-friendly environment we used to know and love. It's deeply disappointing to see such a treasured place become so unaccommodating and indifferent toward long-time customers. We will be taking our business--and our loyalty--to one of the many other paint-your-own studios in the area that still prioritize kindness, flexibility, and community. And when leaving a review on google to express these issues, it felt like we were responded to with a chatgpt answer, because it wasn't even being addressed to the correct person.
