Unfortunately, on March 30, my son was in a horrific accident. He was hit by a car while riding his bike in our hometown of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. He was subsequently airlifted to ECU, where he underwent emergency surgery, was in the hospital for four days, and is now in a cast up to his hip and not weight-bearing on the leg for at least two months. Obviously, due to these unexpected injuries, we must cancel our summer camp plans, as he will be in rehab to gain use of his right leg again. Therefore, I reached out to Camp Don Lee so that I could cancel our camp plans, and open up his spot to a child that may be on the waitlist. When I inquired about receiving a refund for my deposit was told that I needed to seek out and purchase third-party camp insurance prior to trying to cancel. However, had I called on 1 April, they would have 'possibly' been able to help. (We were in the hospital, and summer camp was the LAST thing on my mind.) The lack of compassion and empathy shown was absolutely disgraceful. Camp Don Lee touts itself as a small Christian camp, and even in the mission statement they double down on Christian values. My experience has been that they are only concerned with money, not the actual human experience. I told the woman to keep the deposit as a donation to camp as obviously they needed it more than we did. If you were looking for a place that treats your family with Christian values, empathy, and compassion I would choose to go elsewhere. Camp Kirkwood in Burgaw is a great alternate choice.

Our 14 year old son was excited to return for his third summer. The physical surrounds are awesome, a waterfront cabin, just rustic enough to feel like camp, but still comfortable. The well trained caring and slightly crazy staff members keep campers busy from swimming, boating, sailing, Gaga ball, four square, field games, nature hut, environmental education, sand volleyball, crafts, theme weeks, talent show, visiting the camp store, a small dose of God without pressure, hay rides, dances, camp fires, camp songs, crazy competitions, and more! Today's check in was smooth, actually pleasant. We had received several emails and telephone calls regarding his registration, policies and a reminder of the theme week--aloha campers! It's luau week st Camp Don Lee. I'd recommend this camp to all kids, Methodists or not. The website registration was easy to follow and with Bunk1 we can view pictures of our camper in action and send and receive emails. I absolutely love that no cell phones are allowed for campers. A whole week to unplug and experience this beautiful place!

I can't adequately describe how much Little Creatives Craft Studio has meant to our family, but…read moreI'll try! The studio owner, Candace, treats everyone like family and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere from the start. She provides unique, fun, engaging, and creative projects - along with all the best materials - to children of all ages and abilities. The amount of different kinds of creative projects our children have come home with astounds me! Every single project is completely different from the last and boosts their confidence - as people and as artists every time. They have met new friends and had the chance to bond with consistent fellow crafters also. Candace hosts regular "clubs" and "playgroups" for the kids and gives them ownership (especially for the older kiddos) over the projects as yet another way to boost their confidence and creativity. She also hosts summer camps, of which we participated in all 4 weeks this year, and each themed week was full of wonder, creativity, and a variety of different materials. As a bonus, I love how she involves up-cycled materials as much of her inspiration, which shows the kids that art is everywhere, that materials can be reused for a greater purpose, and it doesn't have to be fancy to be art. At the same time, she has taught the kids to make truly beautiful masterpiece paintings, drawings, and mixed media projects that are usually catered to the "grown ups" - and they have become budding talented artists due to her easy, step-by-step directions. She lowers the fear for the kids so they can grow as people and in their talents. The kids all really take to her instantly, as Candace provides the comfort of a fellow mom, the creativity of a fun studio owner, and the calm of a peaceful artist. They emulate her tone -- which is warm, loving, encouraging, and structured. We cannot thank her enough for opening this studio for kids in Washington!! There's nothing out there like it! P.S. Be sure to check out her party offerings for a unique and fun experience that's easy on the parents!! Little Creatives Craft Studio also hosts birthday parties of all themes and age groups. She tailors the party specifically to your child and runs the whole party start to finish in a way that keeps it SO easy for the parents. She exceeded our expectations on every level - it'll be hard to top such a great experience in years to come.
