He has been enjoying summers at Gate Hill day camp for three years in a row. Where do I start? The facilities are neat and modern. The staff is very personable, enthusiastic and cheerful and overall the Camp is run very smoothly and professionally. On a day to day basis the Camp runs like a well oiled machine providing the children with a wide variety of activities and different themes for each day. They add some nice personal touches by providing daily summaries of what the kids did each day and text message updates to let you know if the buses are running behind due to traffic. As parents, we couldn't be happier that our son is growing as a person, learning different sports and games and making great friends in a safe and beautiful environment .

They not only fed one of our sons (who has many anaphylactic allergies ), one of his main listed anaphylactic allergens which resulted in us having to medicate him for an anaphylactic reaction, they also kept one of his home-packed lunches over a weekend and then FED him the OLD leftover moldy lunch on the following Monday instead of the new lunch we sent in, despite him complaining to one of the staff in the cafeteria that it didn't taste right, and with our other twin? One of the teenage camp counselors was tired of him taking so long to catch up with the rest of the group (he was lagging behind due to chronic congenital knee problems- he's had seven total knee surgeries as of now at age 14, then was 7 and had already had two knee surgeries), so the camp staff pushed him down a wet slope to hurry him along, causing him to fall on his arm, which caused a buckle fracture= BREAKING HIS ARM. Our son told us a few years later that the counselor kid was frustrated with him and pushed him down the slope and that was why he fell (the camp told us he was "running, racing with the camp staff" ). If we had known at the time, we would've sued (and we've never sued anyone). DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!! I will never, ever recommend this camp to anyone. I normally do not post poor reviews, however this camp scarred us. We've never sent our kids to any other camps after our experience here due to the threats they posed to our kids' safety and health. Our kids have pled with us over the years to go to camps and the same old phrase pops up: "No guys, remember Gate Hill?" Followed by: "Oh Yeah." They ruined summer camps for us as a family. Please look elsewhere. No matter how fun or friendly a place is, it's not worth jeopardizing your children's well being, safety or lives. Pictures included to legitimize review. Deerkill is by far the best day camp in the Rockland County area. My kids both learned to swim…read morethere at a very early age and I now have the confidence when we are at the beach or a pool to let them enjoy the water without fear. The staff (from counselors to instructors) is also fantastic and a group of very experienced professionals. The directors are always developing new programs and bringing in the latest activities for campers of all ages. One of the newest additions to the camp is the climbing wall and zip line. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. Overall, I would recommend Deerkill to anyone that would like to provide their kids with the opportunity to have summers they will never forget making life long friends along the way. The disciplinary system of the camp is horrible!!! I have witnessed it myself and a fellow mate of mines that is a counselor has told me as well about his working experience with these kids. My fellow mate had also told me that kids get punished when they disrespect their counselors and the counselors get heated up and take it on the children!! I would highly not recommend this camp especially!!! Especially next year!!!

All my questions and concerns have been addressed almost immediately, via email or phone call. My youngest has several food allergies, severe (anaphylaxis) the staff is fully trained, they are an inclusive camp, meaning she can eat and participate in EVERY activity. This is extremely important for any kid of any age, to feel included and part of everything and something. I highly highly recommend this. Wekeela also is great because you can extend your time there easily, and if you hate it (which I really doubt you will) you will probably be allowed to un-extend. Last summer I went to camp for four weeks, and even in my second year I was still making friends and looking forward to meeting new people! I can't say enough good things about Wekeela. On the last day I was crying my eyes out from dinner to the end of campfire and after camp ended every night I facetimed my friends and became extremely camp sick. I love camp so much that I am going for seven weeks next summer; and considering my past experiences with camps, that's a big deal. If you want a carefree, fun, socialized summer, come to camp Wekeela. Trust me.
